  • great explanation!

  • Besides helping with proper sizing, I find that knitting a gauge swatch is also a good thing to do if you are knitting with a yarn you haven't used before. I find that it helps me get used to the new yarn so that when I actually start my project, I am already accustomed to the feel of it.

  • awesome... now just to learn the different stiches, and get on with following patterns ^^

  • Thank you so much for this explanation! This will make a lot of sense now. I normally don't pay attention to any gauge of any kind. When you need a stretchy hat, then does this also apply? do you stretch and measure?

  • @ObinrinDidun You don't stretch and measure it. You just measure it as it is, or you're going to have a super tight hat or sweater.

  • Great clip thanks. I'm just starting out and have picked up some good pointers at ebeginnersknitting (.) com

  • Whenever I try to do the stockinette stitch, something always goes wrong and the whole row gets twisted up and gah! I don't know how to fix it. I have a pattern that tells me to knit four, then purl two for a row, and then purl four and knit two for the next row, and so on. But it always gets twisted up too and I don't know what's going on! Can somebody help me? :(

  • can someone please show how to bind off a brioche stitch?!

  • I have a pattern that says Gauge 14 sts and 18 rows = 4 inches. in stocking st. how you I do this. Never did guage before because I've made blakents and scarfs. want to get this knit vest right please help

  • @Bria921 I'm here to learn how to use a gauge, too. I think you would make a swatch, then do what she did. You're going to want to have 3.5 sts in 1 inch and 4.5 rows in 1 inch. I think...

    Someone help us!

  • i have 10 stiches in the 2 inches, does that mean that i have 5 sts to the inch?

  • @cheezymouseful Yeah. From what she did, yeah, you would have 5 sts in one inch.

  • would you please post a video on how to count rows when knitting in different stitches please. Like a pattern calls for 44 rows of garter stitch etc.

Thanks love your video's they are very informative

  • is Gauge important? i've made several scarfs and never paid attention. what is gauge used for??

  • gauge is really important, especially if you're making something like a sweater or hat. get it wrong, and you could have a baggy(or super tight) project. yikes!

  • Love how the video was so well made that I could count the stitches!

  • Great video! I'm a beginner and sometimes get lost in some of the terminology and common terms that I have yet to become used to. This video explained everything and clearly showed HOW to decide what was a stitch
