I love this song. I've seen him do it twice live and I just can't get over it. It's really deep and almost seems like a response to Rufus's "Dinner at Eight." A really respectful response.......Thank you so much for posting it.
The only problem with Loudon is that he makes people laugh so much that they forget to listen and recognize that the jokes are over. Such an amazing songwriter and a fearless open book to his audience. The single most honest performer on the planet.
Loudon is one of the few songwriters who can span sadness and humor in the same song. John Prine is another one, "Lake Marie, for example. Great stuff.
I saw him play this last night in VA - has he ever released the song on CD? I have searched and have not found it anywhere. Maybe a newly written song?
Another marvellous song from the great Loudo. Quite heart rending but still with a sharp shard of humour. "If families didn't break apart there'd been no need for art" Genius really.
Saw him perform this two nights ago. Brought tears to my eyes. What a heartbreakingly funny man.

Honest and heartbreaking. The best song I've ever heard about families falling apart.

Filmed at "The Basement" in Sydney, Australia. An iconic venue right next to the harbour.
Great stuff.
