I don't know, I was lucky to see Frank 20 times (+/-) Even saw is Berkeley Symphony with the Oakland Ballet show. I can enjoy ZPZ them same as seeing Frank on stage. Remember, MITB.
The trouble with ZPZ is that without Frank Zappa, it's not the same. Sure, they play the music very well. But Frank's personality was an essential part of the magic, and Dweezil hasn't got it.
@ukkfayooyay Well,of course Dweezil isn't his Dad,but it's nice that he's helping to keep the genius of Franks Legacy alive.....we must be thankful, but it is about like the Jimi Hendrix Experience with Randy Hanson on guitar! Great but nothing close!
but it just lacks Frank's absurdities, his commanding presence.......the sense that that anything could happen at any time........
.I saw them in AC, NJ..and there was no audience participation...between songs banter......just a rote, lifeless performance....Dweezil just lacks the charisma, the fearless irony of his dad..
I don't get it. Note for note perfection (a lotta homework) that leaves me cold. Frank was a presence, and the band always reflected that. Saw the Mothers 3 times in different incarnations. One knew that one was witnessing something supernatural.
My only problem with DZ is that he seems to act like musicians do when they are like 70 years old and can't wait to get off stage. I'm assuming its a confidence thing, would love him to be a bit more outgoing.
Good thing that Frank left such a badass legacy for us. It'd be a crying shame if he'd just left us alone after his death. Why must the good die too young? Thanks Dweezil!
@groovyastrodude The internet would have helped zappa even higher then he got in the 70's and 80's.Too bad his timing was a little off.
In 1976,I couldn't even get anything on his projects or his concert schedules .His exposure was awful. I even wrote to Newsday and they gave me an obscure address to write to.No tv or cable exposure, except SNL.No radio exposure and no internet or google.Just the Halloween concerts to wait for once a year! 75-81
Why are y'all ripping on on Dweezil? F*ck sakes...he's playing an SG just like his Daddy. HMMMmmm....is it genetic, is it just plain great sound and tone?? I believe in peace through music...and the beliefe that LOVE wins. Every Time!
Bless you for your postings, and I am simply: outsidethebocks.
Man, Dweezil and the Band are getting better from year to year i saw them August 2007 in Germany and they had Ray white as their Special Guest, he´s a great Singer. From that day i bought all the CD which have Ray White in the Band.
And Dweezil is gotten closer to Franks Guitar Tone this year yeah i love it that funky whah whah sound.
I Hope Dweezil is inviting Mike Keneally in the Band in the Future

This needs at least 100. 000 common
It who is interessted in complex instrumental Rock music should at least watch this once
Dweezils guitar skill deserves attention,
Everyone who likes Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Johnson, Shawn Lane,
should watch this video
But his Inca Roads Solos are better ; )
I hope Dweezil Continues Zappa plays Zappa for 5 years or Longer

En mi humilde opinion , el solo de Dweezil es mejor o la palabra seria "mas apropiado " para esta cancion que el que hizo Vai en esta cancion tmb.

You can't say anything about Frank...
You've favorited a Japanese drag queen playing guitar!!!
Yes, that's a guy! But you knew that!!!

Dweezil is much more talented musician as far as technique goes. That being said, nobody can replicate Frank's clunky, bruising style...
