Great series! I watched this all 3 times prior to my own first attempt (resin curing as I type) as I was a bit nerveous about all the steps. This series has been excellent - step by step down to the last detail , which is important for someone who's never cast anything before
Wish I would have watched these BEFORE I started playing with it. What's the most cost effective way to do this? Cheapest quality resin/mold making RTV?
What if you want o cast a lego starwars helmet what would u do with the hole where the head goes in? would u seal it with plasticis or add the spay so i dont stick? plz respond and i subbed
great video mate, 1 thing tho, You see when your filling the syringe, tip the dish slightly so to try and not suck up air bubbles, if these then get injected into the mold you may end up with air-bubbles, not trying to be a big head, ,just a tip I found out through my own experiance :)
Great videos. One quick question, for cleaning the syringe how exactly do you chip away the plastic from inside and what effect does filling it with water have, thanks!
Thanks for the syringe idea, i've been getting a lot of flash from spilling when i do the 2 halves separately. Will try that one out.
One question though. Since i have a lot of fine detail/rivits on my models, I like to scrape over lightly with a toothpick whilst my resin sets to make sure it gets into all of them. How can i make sure if i'm using this injection method that the resin will get into every little detail?
Well, speed of injection is important, the slower you inject the resin, the better it will creep into detail and not flow over it and leave air pockets.
It's a tricky thing to get small rivets to cast properly without some kind of pressure chamber (I would imagine).
Does spraying the mould release beforehand help with the flow of the resin? I've been told talc also helps break surface tension. What are your thoughts on this?
I use electrical tape as well. I also use 16 gauge needles and syringes and when I am done injecting, I pull up some acetone into the syringe and then inject it into the trash, allowing me to reuse the syringe without any other work. Good video though.
So far it's all gone well for me. A few things I've worked out myself so far:
1. If possible, leave the original sprue tags on the part to form entry/vent ports
2. If not, hand cutting a channel afterwards is cleaner than trying to tidy up piece-meal bits of joining sprue
3. Don't combine too many parts on the same input channel or you get uneven fills with the resin

I'm not sure how much help that is.
