I tried sand teleing on the dunes south of Oxnard, CA. It was steep but slow. I figure, the sand on the dunes in Namibia is much finer and there for would behave more like snow. I was just kidding about the wax thing. Now I know.

Thanks. You may be right about the character of the sand, but most important is in fact the wax. It is absolutely crucial to add some kind of friction reducing agent on the soles of the skis in order to gain speed in the sand. Good luck with you telemark skiing!
It's a specially manufactured super-hard wax. I don't think it is easy to come by, as we got it from a guide who accidentally found it at a wax factory. The wax was actually about to be discarded, as it was by a mistake produced too hard for normal use.
