  • My Daddy used to sing this song to me when I was a little girl. I would ask him "Daddy, will you sing At My Table for me?", cuz that's what I called the song. I lost my Daddy when I was 14. I am 48 now, and this song always makes me feel close to him. I miss you Daddy...

  • Judy F of Honaker VA, if you are reading this, I still love you

  • A time when country songs had meaning.

  • I think David was 58 when he passed away, I always loved his smooth voice, I have been in contact with his son, David Jr is very nice, I think he got a lot from his dad even if he did get cheated out of knowing him long. Ed

  • thanks for posting this classic country music and sharing with us!

  • I am almost 41 years old and I grew up listening to country music like this how I wish I had time machine so I could go back to those days.

  • @TheThomasmoon ...

This was the time when counry music had heart!

What's sad is it's next to impossible to find these songs except for here. These songs bring back very fond memories of my childhood.Too bad there's no radio stations today dedicated to playing nothing but this type of country music,at least I haven't found any.

THANKS to everyone who's taken the time to post these classics!!!!!.

If you have a FACEBOOK account please share these and see how many people remember them.

  • one of the great old classics when country music was country not like todays crap

  • There are about 10 songs that define really country musics roots.

Jack Greene David Houston, Tammy Wynette Loretta Lynn,Merle H Porter Wagoner

Were the BIGGIES...in 1966/69 you couldn't go anyplace without hearing one of them...

  • This man OWNS this song, Hank Locklins version is a very close second - love it

  • There was a comment on a Patti Page side how women singers seemed prettier then - and I could add fantastic voices despite the non-digital world. Men too seemed to be able to touch the well-spring of romance with their singing- virtually lost today - but then

dancing and its body language was different and enriched the song and vice-versa

  • my family to my knowledge and learnings have been back to sam houston too thats cool

  • My Mom would play this album on that big old Magnavox stereo on Sunday afternoons on the farm where I grew up in Ohio. Her, Dad and that Magnavox are all gone now, and sometimes, I can't seem to bring to mind what Mom and Dad looked like, but I can dream about them and it's like they are standing beside me. LOL, as for Dad, I guess, I need look no further than my son, he looks like a peice fell off of him. Anyhoo, thanks for posting this song.

  • RIP

  • A great son for this young man that left us so early! If you have ever been in this situation, the words are so real!

  • vilken underbar låt den bästa jag hört

  • My first wife Donna Harris had the Answer to this song. She gave up her career to raise my children, Kenny Ray, Dony Dale and Kenna Dawn. Thank you Donna and I will always love you all.\

  • A #1 song for David Houston on the Country & Western Charts. It was the 104th #1 C&W song of the Rock Era.

  • Love this song. Great memories.

  • love these proper country and western songs they have true meaning and touch your heart

  • Houston is super with this signature song. I think his voice is one of the very best country voices.

  • a pleasant listening experience this is. is it my imagination or are there fewer waltz-tempo songs on the country charts today?

  • this song can be so true..its easy to understand how a guy could be almost persuaded when perhaps away from home, under stress from the high cost of living, kids, bills, middle age, and if a stranger in the female persuasion comes up to you and does the things this woman does to this vulnereable gentleman..well anyone can see what could happen...but i take my hat off to those who do what this guy did...he remember his loving wife..and her sweet love..and he stopped and go home..

  • this is what the music is all about. i love this music, all the classic country artists really knew what they were doing. when you hear this music the way it is supposed to be played, it really does something to you.

  • I met David Houston at Panther Hall in Ft.Worth, TX around 1967. He was a super guy. Humble and soft-spoken.

  • when serving on the uss america during the vietnam war...i use to sneak into one of the radio rooms and i would listen to country western music like this...so the cool guys from NJ and NY...who i would hang out with...would not think i was a redneck...because in those days...those were the only ones who listen to this kind of music...but i love it so.....yes they did catch me ....but i didn't care....it was that good...and still is....

  • @billythedoggie I was also country when country wasn't cool! LOL

  • Really Great singing !!!

    Dick

  • As a kid growing up in Los Angeles, I never fitted in with the other kids because when they were listening to khj, I was listening to klac. The only redneck kid in L.A.

  • This song brings back so many memories of when I was a kid listening to records of all the great country artists. This was always one of my favorites up there with Ray Price, Faron Young, and Lefty Frizzell. Thanks so much for sharing this.

  • I love this song!! He was a strong man!

  • its funny, but i feel like i'm the only one in this situation.. listening to songs like this about straying from the path really helps me feel better

  • I love this song i don't know why buck owens together again is always referred to as the finest steel guitar performance, the steel in this really pulls at the heart strings.

  • I really wish that we had singers like this now. David Houston had a wonderful voice. I just wish that people could let sleeping dogs lie. Their personal life is theirs, nobody elses. He was a great singer and brought pleasure to many people. You don't know why people do what they do. Nor does anyone know the whole truth. David Houston was one in a million.

  • Smooth unintrusive pedal steel guitar from one of the top session men in Nashville , Pete Drake.

  • @stephen1622 ; Sadly, no...he passed away in 1993, aged 55, of a cerebral hemorrhage. I believe that he had ceased recording some time before then, but continued to perform private gigs.

  • Many memories come alive when I hear this song.
