For most, learning how to fight well meant survival. They're usually unpredictable, and they aren't afraid to fight dirty.

In one to one fight, wrestling the opponent down is the thing you wanna do, especially if he knows a trick or two in boxing (or stronger then you), multiple opponents you forget the wrestling and your back against the wall where you try to knock down the strongest first, if it doesn't work run.
Personally if more than one engage me I grab whatever is available-bottles, garbage bins etc, and i try to really hurt them- same goes if the guy pulls the knife.

And the gracie brothers were great on the ground, but if they couldn't take it there they weren't good. Fighters of the 90's were just showman not really the best of the best. The Gracies were the best of BJJ and they got neutralized quick once new skill came in.

Too many dangerous factors down there: Broken glass, your opponent's buddies ready to kick the shit out of you, etc.
BJJ is fine IF you combine it with another art that teaches standing defence and strikes that will end a fight QUICKLY. The more styles you combine, the better your chances for survival.

In one to one fight, wrestling the opponent down is the thing you wanna do, especially if he knows a trick or two in boxing (or stronger then you), multiple opponents you forget the wrestling and your back against the wall where you try to knock down the strongest first, if it doesn't work run.
Personally if more than one engage me I grab whatever is available-bottles, garbage bins etc, and i try to really hurt them- same goes if the guy pulls the knife.

And the gracie brothers were great on the ground, but if they couldn't take it there they weren't good. Fighters of the 90's were just showman not really the best of the best. The Gracies were the best of BJJ and they got neutralized quick once new skill came in.

@iggy082 Sorry mate, but I'm also calling BS on BJJ. I can tell you from years of experience both in the street as well as on the job, 'going to ground' is NOT where you want a brawl to end up. Too many dangerous factors down there: Broken glass, your opponent's buddies ready to kick the shit out of you, etc.
BJJ is fine IF you combine it with another art that teaches standing defence and strikes that will end a fight QUICKLY. The more styles you combine, the better your chances for survival.

BJJ is easily countered, hence why all the BJJ fighters from the early UFC days had to develop new fight techniques. A la the Gracie brothers falling from MMA relevance.
Yes if you have BJJ training and the other person has no training you will win, but if you are both trained BJJ is not the best...

Apparently you don't understand what an example is. The anderson silva example showed how he neutralized a BJJ purist. And Silva never used BJJ in that fight, just his standup.
