The hypothalamus was abnormally small before the medication. The medication actually allows it to grow. The growth has been seen after a while on the meds. I used to be anti-psychiatry too until I couldn't keep my head straight due to my bipolar. Of course we all have different brain chemistry and there is no need to see everything that is deemed "abnormal" as a deficiency

I would hazard to guess that the professional discourse, in the field of mental health, is far from unanimous or universally agreed upon. This is where cultural and societal norms inform the field of psychiatry and its allied professions.

ADHD is a crock i was labeled that as a child. i'll admit i was just a bad little shit. but spankings and punishment took care of that not the ritalin. it made me not want to eat and actually made me depressed. Pych class has taught me that prozac is bad it actually gives the depressed person the energy to commit suicide. When your depressed you don't have the energy to do anyting. I too was "diagnosed" with ADHD at an early age, and in my adult years, I was diagnosed with BP disorder, since it was in vogue with professionals at the time. It is easy to be so cynical and angry when life circumstances were, and still might be, difficult. Nevertheless, a healthy skepticism can only foster better treatment and theory

I agree with your thoughts on that, as do millions of others, including a growing number of health professionals. The only thing being treated, in my estimation, especially when it comes to children, is the behaviour. I worked as a school psychologist, and I can tell you, there was-to put it in the vernacular-a shit load of kids on ritalin, which, as you probably know, can turn a child into a zombie.

Teaching them how to cope. I am sure sometimes you feel angry, impulsive, lustful, or sad. However, you have (I assume) learned how to channel these in healthy ways and behave appropriately around others. Most if not all "manic depressives" can be taught how to do this.

First, it fucks with ur brain to the point that all your attention centers on how these drugs are messing with your physiology. So u (the patient) stops ur usual behaviour to focus on managing this mind-rape by pills.

Then after a while, your body learns to cope with the foreign agents and later on, the foreign agents destroy your natural ability to function. ....

Yes, in VA hospitals. Been going on for years. Old veterans who have been there for decades and who have no living relatives to give a damn are often the subjects. The VA is very "cooperative" with the pharmaceutical industry. Sometimes the veterans even "sign" for the experiments, but we're talking people who are barely lucid, or who think they're signing for better treatment or maybe even the breakfast menu.

That is a major problem with all brain scan studies dealing with "mental illness". They have scan the brains of people that have been diagnosed already. As a result they have already received treatment.

So any perceived difference could have actually be caused by the drugs they have taken for "mental illness".

A friend of mine helped close down a "psychiatric" hospital named Ramsey Canyon. They'd institutionalize people who weren't even crazy to get their insurance, then kick them out - drug addicted and now Actually crazy due to their treatment. They whole system was found to be so corrupt that it was shut down, but I have no doubt the owner has gone on to other "businesses" Most mind drugs make you worse and hook you for life, when many would recover Naturally, if simply given time.

I totally agree. I'm a recovering alcoholic (1 year, yeah) and was put on SSRIs to deal with depression. I started with Paxil, which completly changed me into a vombie. I hated that so they switched me to Lexapro. These things completely mess you up. For starters I could care less about anything (including life) when I was on them. Well, I've been off them for over a year. It was hard, but I did it.
