Surprisingly this makes me realize how Martial Solal might have been influenced by Monk, apart from his obviously Tatum-like skills ; though I remember him criticizing Thelonious playing.
@WAMEDJO Were you at the Kimmel Center concert of Martial's?I heard his comments about Monk, but I took them as being puzzled yet admiring. He said that Monk is like the person who can't play the piano right, but wins the competition.......,,,,anyway,I thought Mr. Solal was a delight.
I've never been in the US -don't know where the Kimmel Center is- but I've heard Martial once at the Cité de la Musique in Paris with his Dodecaband. I remember someone in the audience complaining loudly to him because of his dissonant playing -it was highly rude behaviour though Martial didn't seem to care that much... He may be accustomed-. I warmly recommand his double solo cd : "Martial Solal improvise pour France Musique" which summarizes outstandingly his original style.
This is Ben Riley at his best, with that loose feel.Monk's music is always irresistible, like a nice piece of cheesecake. He always represented the best that jazz, and therefore,America has to offer.
My favorite song off this album! It sounds to me the way jazz is supposed to sound. Monk built his song 'Evidence' off the progression to this tune. I just love this!
Wasn't this in the intro to Monsters Inc?
great song anyway, faved

It hurts to see that such an superb music has so few views, although it has been uploaded a year ago. Praise the Monk for his legacy!
