I am glad the AE is still around..I have the tape Arizona's short line railroads by pentrex..they did a clip on this line..at the time they were using Ex BN ex GN GP20's and a ex SP GP but tht SP unit was different then the others in the it was the first EMD built with a turbocharged engine..qouted from tht wonderful tape..great video!!
@EMDSD14R Yeah, it's a good video. I keep asking Pentrex to redo it on DVD on the yearly questionnaire. Some of the old GP20's and old WP/UP GP35's are still around, but I'm not sure if they're still working. For the last few years they've been running former LMX GE B40-8's, but I guess the RR doesn't like them much for being "fuel hogs" and parked most of them. They are happy with their leased CEFX SD9043MAC's, however.
@espeescotty indeed..i think they'll put it on DVD soon..yeah they are still around..i just saw a video last night with the GP20's and the GP35's running..they were switching..the are painted in blue and silver...yeah i haven't seen those on running on tht line...oh they got SD9043mac running there?....tht must be awsome seeing them do street running..btw when did they start running this train?..its very nice..and do u railfan at the other shortlines in the area?
@EMDSD14R Though I only live about 45 miles from this RR, I rarely get up there to watch it. Other than the Copper Spike Train, I have only caught the AE in action once. The Copper Spike Train started running in '08 or '09. At first it was powered by a Heisler steam engine, which I never did see, then regular AE Geep's and then the E8 in '10. This past summer the E8 was moved to New York and it's been moving all around since then.
@espeescotty oh i understand..oh thts pretty recent..those heislers are rare..man this train had many different engines pulling it..they moved the e8 to NY why did they do tht?..well tht unit looks sweet in its SP inspired black widow paint!!
@EMDSD14R I never did find out why the E unit left, and I'm not even sure the Copper Spike Train still runs. I was up in Globe on a Sunday at the beginning of December and everything at the station was quiet and no vehicles! I was told the day I shot this video that business last season was great and this one was supposed to be even better... ??? Yeah, how cool is that, a Black Widow E!? And, I even scored a ride in it!!! Cha-Ching!!! :)
@EMDSD14R The Copper Basin Railway is the only other operating shortline in the area. I did catch one of their trains a while back and posted that on YouTube. I hear they are very railfan friendly, but I have never put that to the test. They run on a kind of schedule, but if you are out of sequence with the trains, you could be waiting for some hours for the next train.
@espeescotty u mean the San manuel rarilroad isn't around anymore?..they ran with alco RS3's...well i am glad Copper Basin is still around..they have the rare SD39's GP39's, and the GP18's/GP 9 chopnoses..thts true very true..they run on their times without delays
@EMDSD14R Yeah, the San Manuel is no longer and the Magma into Superior is also history, though the tracks remain. Unfortunately the Copper Basin also does not have those AWESOME former Southern Pacific SD39's either. They were only on the railroad for just a few years back in the early 90's. CBR only runs Geep 9's,18's,and 39's. I forgot the reason for the short run of the SD39's, either reliability issues or too hard on the tracks, or both.
@espeescotty awwww man tht suck's..tht really sucks..they had the push pull mine trains..my custom unit coal train runs with a cab car..i got the idea from them..oh wow man they stopped running them?..wow...well BN picked up some SD39's and i think BNSF still used them the the TEBC6 hump slugs..man do things change..well atleast they got all the geeps..yeah more then likely those units were harder on the tracks then the geeps but their pulling power was amazing but it could have been both to
@EMDSD14R Yeah, the SD39's BNSF runs/ran came with the Santa Fe. SF ran them as Slug Mothers for years. I saw a couple of sets in Kodachrome at the Barstow yard back the 80's. I'm almost certain they never got any of Espee's SD39's. Most have been scrapped or shipped of to foreign countries. As of about 2 years ago, one or two were still working in Minnesota or Iowa and looking very good! Hope they still are. I loved SP's SD39's! Are you listening Athearn?
@espeescotty oh cool man..yeah the kodachrome units were awsome..I have a c30-7 and a SD40-2 in tht scheme..those slugs are sweet i might build one in the near future..yeah thts true..yeah they were shipped of just like the SDl39's..oh well as long as 2 are still inservice here thts cool...same here same here...Athearn..no no no..kato or Intermountain are u listening?..lol...they got sweet detail/running performance but if athearn made them they should make them in the geneisis line most def!!
@44492611 This was a Sunday afternoon, so traffic here was very light. I think there are 3 cross streets in this short stretch and all are 4 -way stops. Vehicles can run with the train, assuming the parked vehicles don't take up too much of the lane, but the train may catch up with them at the stop signs.
@megatwingo Thanks. I'm pretty sure this is the only place where I have ever seen street running. Freight trains roll through there too, but I have yet to see that.
Nice Bell and horn I wish this train was in Washington state so that we have a Lot of money this train would help My state get more money so that they do not have to Get rid of money
@BUICK925 Though this unit is not a former Southern Pacific unit, the SP did have 2 E9's in Black Widow paint for a short while in 1958. They were 6048 and 6050. That was at a time when SP was experimenting with new paint schemes that were more economical to apply and maintain. Later that year is when they decided that the red and gray "Bloody Nose" scheme was the one, and that's what they stayed with until the end of the railroad's life in 1996.
As of August 2011, this locomotive is now in the Adirondack Mountains in New York State serving the newly formed Saratoga & Norht Creek railroad [sncrr.com]. She looks beautiful running through the pristine mountins and crystal clear rivers in upstate NY.
@gtptube Not sure if you may have seen them or not, but last year I was lucky and scored a cab ride in this very same engine. I have the videos posted and in one of them you get a pretty good sample of one of the 567's singing her song to the fans! Again though, the wind is not a friend of my camera. Hope you like 'em.
@gtptube Yeah, I agree, crossing bells get annoying fast. Unfortunately there just aren't many options here for other locations. You are basically seeing the whole extent of street running here. The train only started moving just 100' beyond where it comes into view and also it was a windy day, so I was sheltering behind a tall signal box to stay out of it. Closer to the road meant closer to the bells, closer to the trestle meant in the wind and no good going away shot.

Cool street running video, I am not going to lie that crossing bell is kind of annoying sounding, it needs a good old mechanical bell

@metraF40PH163 Thanks! Maybe next time I'll position myself where the white truck is. The bells should be somewhat quieter there.

Makes sense. The street running is great. If you get a chance to go back, the sound of an E-8 is music to my ears- especially in run-8. Thanks.
