embryonic line up of the Coloured Balls, probably mid 1972. Lobby Loyde, guitar(of course), with what looks to be John Miglands (bass), possibly Andrew Fordham (guitar)( Fordham left the Balls after Sunbury '73 - replaced by "Bobsie" Millar) and ? on drums.
Does anyone have a video or audio of the early aussie 70's band called Lotus? They had a song called Lotus 1 that was pretty good from memory. They were on a music program called Happening 70 or 71 or 72. I can't remember which year but it was one of these.
yeah.. me too. thats why im here looking at this now. I've never heard them before last night! There is so much good Aussie music from back in the day, its real shame the Aus music scene is so lame now....
Unless you were a kid in the early seventies you wouldnt have heard of them .The Music establishment has forgotten them and many others from the era. They dont exactly fit into the Golden Oldies scene and they are too old to make in with the modern heavy metal fans.
This is what's great about the internet. You hear of a band once, and you can look them up before you forget their name, and soon you've listened to a ton of songs and watched a ton of videos and read all about their history. In the past, it was hit and miss as far as what you were exposed to. I'm from Canada, so I'd never heard of the Balls or the Aztecs, but after seeing them mentioned in the recent AC/DC bio book, I was curious. I gotta say, there was a cool scene in Australia back then.
what happened to those Lobby interviews not long before he died?,there was about 2 hrs worth with some young fella interviewing him,i cant find em no more
You just can't watch this once and not go back for more serves. I feel sorry for any of those rock fans that never stumble upon this video, they are deprived of top level aussie rock!
None outside of serious music circles. I only found out about him because David Fricke did a column on his death for "Rolling Stone". I've never seen his music in any sort of record shop or online download service, though.
Henry Rollins apparently owns all of Lobby's albums. I've fair dinkum been living under a rock for 36 years! Although I had heard of Lobby Loyde, I'd never heard his music. Devil's Disciple is awsome. I can hear a little Malcolm Young/ACDC in there. Phil Rudd had a stint with the Coloured Balls in the early 70s.
totally in awe and so fekin sorry i missed out on this band for so long. delicious music.

Damn I missed that. All I saw was that dodgy Ray Burgess "Flashez" show that was on a bit later.

I wish we'd have gotten more of this particular music released in America. Even today, all you can find is expensive imports.
