Piano reminds me of Charlie Chaplin movie era, kind of illustrating the scene,ie the violin musical movements, and, frankly,I hate that, with all the respect due to these great Masters, especially Sir Yehudi who was a great human being, great culture, great humility, great compassion,an example for us all.
A little bit too fast, but still wonderful to hear! A different, but nice interpretation! I do agree with some other users that the piano is a little too hard at some parts. I love his straight stance and coolness. This seems to be harder and harder to find these days, where most musicians 'wobble' along (or at showing a very expressive face) with the music. did find his bow movements a bit awkward, especially the parts where he uses a lot of his bow...

this video, at least on my computer seems to be in the wrong key, not in the key he must have recorded in. To test this out, the first note is suppose to be concert A It is a B flat, so the recording is a half step too high. This also tends to speed up the playing and make it seem almost superhuman. It might be something wrong my computer or something, but that's how it sounds when I play it.
@politicopol Yes you're right. He plays with Menuhin during the all "concert" (This is extracted from "Concert Magic" for the reference). (moreover the name of Baller is written at the beginning of the video :) ) Great performance !
j'ai eu envie de sourire quand je vous ai lue, et puis, et puis ....je eu envie de vous embrasser ne serait-ce que pour les trois points d'exclamation et pour la majuscule cette forme de la tendresse pudique
i feel a little bit rushed in his interpretation. its a bit fast for me, and i wish menuhin were alive today so the sound quality of the video would be better.
I think this is a wonderful interpretation. To those who think Heifetz is better, I just don't think it's relevant. This isn't ranking quarterbacks, these folks are some of the greatest all time classical musicians. I think it's great. I am so grateful that someone posted it! These clips are treasures! Bravo!
Se vuoi un consiglio da amico guardati assolutamente il 24simo capriccio eseguito da "Uto Ughi"... è una fantasia sul tema originario fatta esclusivamente col violino.
Try Kogan, Quarta, Kavakos, Accardo... Heifetz is wonderful of course, but others play this piece with teir own interpretation and they are as good as he.
Damn right! I was about to write the same thing... It completely kills the mood for me. Kudos to Menuhin who managed to endure that ridiculous piano accompaniment. I would have smacked that pianist big time!
okay i have to disagree with you there, Menuhin is an excellent violinist and i am one of his biggest fans, but this tempo isn't exactly that much faster than heifetz speed and clean tone is just about the same, Menuhin himself looked up to Heifetz throughout his solo career so don't go making stupid comparisons like that, just shutup and enjoy
I agree. I believe so many violinists today have lost that unique quality to the point where interpretation and individuality is becoming rarer and rarer. Perhaps it was the same then, too, and we only remember the bigger names but even our big names don't have that certain individual quality that the so-called "golden era" had.
That being said I, too, hope to find that unique, beautiful way of expression. And I think that's the most important part of playing; the musical beauty of it.
Tell me about it... And I have to deal with listening to an entire orchestra behind me each day in orchestra class that all tries to sound the same, even when my teacher makes us do auditions. I'm the only person at my school who actually adds things to music.
His interpretation is so much different than Heifetz's, I love it, I love both of them, they're my favorite violinists. WHY IS THE VIDEO INCOMPLETE???
no creo que otra grabacion llegue siquiera a acercarse tan solo al magnifico nivel que desmuestra menuhin tecnico e interpretativo con respecto a esta obra
that´s amazing man, i love the menuhin interpretation, thats very cool.
and the piano ar very interesting.
but what happened with the end!!?? O_o
pd: sabias ke si tocas una de las variaziones del capricho y alguien toca otra variacion simultaneamente suena bien?, eso es por ke todas las variaciones usan la misma armonia, y es como si fueran acompañamiento. yo creo ke eso hicieron con el piano.
aww... I wanted to hear the rest of those beautiful harmonics :(
And what's wrong with the pianist?? I think it was pretty fun

i've got to agree. As great a violin player Menuhin and Oistrakh is, Heifetz is better than both... most ppl usually considered Heifetz as the master
jazzecca2007 2 years ago
I mean Heifetz is better for this piece compared to Menuhin. He is not better on everything compared to other violinists.

Isn't that what we all violonists should aspire to?Finding an own ,unique ,beautiful ,style ,and way of expression?
I hope I will find that one day...
