  • Terrible music like that used to make me pick up the guitar when I was a teenager and now it is mainstream labelled as indie and secretly canadian signs it. World Upside Down! so not rock'n'roll.

  • I heard this song back in 2010 when i listened to yeasayer while on ketamine

  • "There is always a heavy demand for fresh mediocrity. In every generation the least cultivated taste has the largest appetite."

    Paul Gauguin

It's as true then as it is now.

  • @Matthitizidu i suppose you never specifically referred to Yeasayer, but please, just because they're not your specific "brand" of music, don't criticize them. they're an extremely good band, and this song is amazing. amazing is a subjective word, and who's to say your use of the word amazing is more correct than mine? please take ignorance elsewhere, off of this amazing band's page. thank you :)

  • @halfxbloodxprincess I love this band. They are the greats and the quote is referring to the mainstream mediocre crap... and you're a dumb ass bitch.

  • @Matthitizidu what a clever rebuttal, you got me there.

and maybe you should learn to specify then? because to most people it would appear that you're implying the quote refers to them, since you put it on their video with no other specifications as to who you were talking about...

    dumb ass bitch.

  • Comment removed

  • @halfxbloodxprincess No you're the only one that responded like a dumb bitch. So not to most people just you. Why don't you ask before you act like a cunt?

  • better than drugs...?

  • inspiring words + amazing beat = one hell of a song

  • @BrAdLy595

+ an awesome history behind the words

  • sick.

  • this song was used for a US snowboard video...which video was it?

  • @virgilproductions It was actually used in 2, Eero Nimelas part in Cheers and Kalle Ohlson's part in Pirates HOOKED

  • i want thumbs up so bad. i need to feel importnant

  • @LushForests haha hopefully sarcasm at its finest!?

  • thumbs up if you heard this song on the acl 2010 festival video and looked it up

  • Morning Glories brought me here :D

  • three words toatly awsome band

  • Awesome song!

  • i hear a little of the old animal collective

    i like it

  • god i'm so fucking high right now... KIDDING. Honestly all you guys talking about being under the influence are really annoying. get a unique song and/or video and 75% of the comments involve being high? YOU AREN'T, get with it.

  • one word, BEAUTIFUL<3

  • compared to the music i normally listen to, this is only ok.

  • @hazmat151 why, what do you usually listen to?

  • any boxing fan knows the results between these boxers. Interesting to hear its meant to be a song from Joe Louis' point of view, ill listen to it from that angle.. Thanks for taking the time to post.

  • horribly nice song, love it!

  • Yummm. The band to listen to in substitute for better bands.

  • This band is so original, does anyone know any other bands like this?

  • @urskrewd if the sound on this particular sound is what you're specifically looking for, check out Animal Collective... specifically Strawberry Jam and Merriweather Post Pavilion. Kind of an amalgam of those records, IMO.

  • Im kind of new to this band, can somebody tell me if this is a different singer than the one from ONE? because in the music video of this song it's definetely not the same person as in ONE. PS: what songs do I really have to hear?

  • @BlackRoseForYou Yes, Ambling Alp (and almost every other Yeasayer song) is sung by Chris Keating. O.N.E. Is sung by Anand Wilder

  • The Ambling Alp, what a champion boxer he was, great song about him.

  • @biggles132 It's not about him. It's about Joe Louis. It's his father telling to overcome the trials of segregation. Joe Louis destroyed Ambling Alp and Max Schmeling. Joe is the true Champion.

  • @jeremiahbrooks1. Can I ask where you heard/read that it is a song about Joe Louis? cheers.

  • @biggles132 My American History class. My teacher played songs about athletes during the late 30s and 40s and this was one of them. It's also on their Wikipedia page.

  • 35 people havent stood up for themselves.

  • ...come to reduce the expressive quality of music. Real people playing real instruments live can create so much richer music. A brilliant drummer playing on a top quality kit is immensely more transcendent and full of vitality than a programmed beat. Again, this would have had a novel quality in 1982 but it's 2011 for crissake! And while I'm at it I might as well mention the positive psychology movement is wearing a little thin. There's bad stuff going on and hipster music seems out of touch.

  • This is not bad it's just suffering from a lot of common musical ailments circa 2011...it sounds like 80's electro pop which is bad thing if the material was written after the 80's for 2 reasons, 1)It's rehashing of old musical styles. That's boring and unnecessary when there is so much music and musical ideas that has not been referenced in the past 50 years of pop music 2) 80's music is based on innovations in electronics, like midi which at the time were new concepts but today have ...

  • my inspiration => my art

  • i don't know why people think mainstream is bad.... its just whats popular, i enjoy some mainstream and if you say you don't enjoy any of it your lying, music is music who cares if its big or not, just don't let it stop.

  • Wow, I'm so glad to find such a good band like them these days, I'm in love with their songs, amazing.

  • lanewayyyyyyyy

  • I heard this song back in 1984 when I listened to WHAM! while on nitrous oxide.

  • @MrHymeedesign tears! :'D

  • @MrHymeedesign No this is an incorrect lie! This song was not released then. idiot! haha

  • @djjiles You got me. Your skills in incorrect lie detection are second to none.

  • @djjiles He was joking dumbass.

  • @JebusInVegas hahah no!!!! you are hugely wrong he was not. he was not. he was not. that was NOT a joke. he got the facts wrong!!!!! this was not around in the 80s. are you mental??? mental? my mum told me. you idiot!!!!! hahahahaha! what a dick brain !!! blah nyan cat !!!

  • @djjiles I can't believe that I need to explain this to you: Right, this song is heavily influenced by the sound of the band WHAM!. And the electronic effects added to it are similar to the aural hallucinations a person experiences while taking nitrous oxide. He was simply saying that if you were to listen to WHAM! while taking nitrous oxide, you would hear something very similar to this. Seriously. It's a joke.

44 people understood this and probably didn't need their mums to explain it to them.

  • @JebusInVegas Mum is that you?! No but this song wasn't released in the '80s.

  • @djjiles ... Yes. We all know that.

  • @JebusInVegas I don't understand why you said it was liek Wham in the '80s then? Happy easter mum!

  • @djjiles Who doesn't know that? the initial joke really went right over your head didn't it. stop now. you're embarrassing both yourself and your mum.

  • @RansomJames trolltimes complete.

  • @MrHymeedesign : you're my idol.

  • @MrHymeedesign must have been some high. haha. peace.

  • Top 5 of late:

    1. Yeasayer - Ambling Alp

    2. Animal Collective - My Girls

    3. Night Shining - The Ocean's End

    4. Sleigh Bells - Rill Rill

    5. Broken Bells - The High Road

  • @NewGreenBo my girls is pretty old now, amazing song however! similar sounding aswell

  • this is absolutely horrific

  • They sound nothing like MGMT, except their "Big Three." (Meaning Time to Pretend, Electric Feel, and Kids. Listen to the rest of Oracular and their second album, and you realize these singles are anomalies to their true style) To me, Yeasayer is what Animal Collective sounds like in accessible form, I.E. in much catchier form.

  • @Hockyluv21 I can see the AC comparison but it's almost detracts from AC. Not that I don't like Yeasayer but AC is far and away the best band of this generation and will be looked back upon(by people with good taste) as the defining sound of this time period. Yeasayer is very poppy, but not in a bad way kind of in the same way that Oracular has poppy elements. Oracular has poppy elements but MGMT didn't let that influence them into making a poppy 2nd album, it pushed them away from it.

  • @Hockyluv21 Which is why MGMT is a better band than Vampire Weekend. They were on the same platform of popularity after Oracular and Vamp's first album and Congratulations took out the poppy influence that was in oracular which may not have made Congratulations a better album but got rid of the bullshit MGMT "fans" who only like the big three you reffered too. Contra got way poppier and more mainstream that their first album not to mention a lot worse.
