another thing about hardware vs computer. If you use software , there are a lot of scripts to be loaded (automatic, of course), before you really heare something: First the bios have to be loaded. Then windows.. with all the stuff you really don't need for music (like msn messenger, virusscanners, dropbox, printerdrivers, geforce. ) so.. now you have to boot up fl studio... again a lot of codes/scripts. Then you need to load up a vsti.. what also works with soundcars.. so its a long way
Nice track. I'm a user of FL Studio, too. And I also have a Lexicon reverb unit. In my case it's the MX300. Instead of a Juno 106 I have the Alpha Juno 2 and instead of the ESQ-1 I'm using the virtual version of its bigger brother, the SQ-80 (a freeware plug-in called SQ8L, which I made a little demo video of here on YouTube).
Like you, I'm going back to hardware after years using software. Hardware is undoubtedly better and much more fun. The hardware re-revolution has begun.
Hey man, nice track! Really mellow...it's good to see someone else ditching software, I was finding I never got a track finished as the sonic manipulation possibilities are endless with software. Check out my setup if you have a minute to spare! Cheers, Si
i keep hearing that hardware is better, but as far as sound quality goes isn't everything digital these days? what's the difference other than the interface? interfaces generally being more intuitive with a mouse and monitor...not skeptical just curious
Your pc should be able to handle it if you are into music production. I started off with midi controllers and software. I now sequence everything in my Triton Extreme and track out the audio. Hardware for me is much more fun.
That's the thing, most modern synths caught the digital bug. All of my synths would be considered vintage. They use analog circuitry to make sound instead of processing it all on a CPU and converting to analog.
But the sounds are just the tip of the iceberg. If you don't know what the difference is, go to a music store and sit down with a synth for a half hour. Every synth has a unique personality. Softsynths will never come close to emulating ICs, and you're using a mouse the whole time.
Yea, I've actually had the opportunity to sit down with a few synths a while back (all the music stores here are shit, but i was up north) and i definitely agree about synths sounding different.. Anyway, I've started converting from FL Studio to hardware, got an esx1 and a micron, now i just want a nord rack/lead and a decent recording device
Thanks, you demonstrated that you can control your hardware via FL and what stuff you have to have before doing that. Also thank you for the mini-live set.
Hey djkennothon, hit me on aim @ sawtoothdentist! The '57 was running though a Lexicon Alex I found at a thrift store marked "gadget" for three dollars :D Thanks for the comments guys!
Cool bro.. singing just brings the whole thing alive.. what did you have the sm57 mic going through?.. im making music in a similer fasion some drum seqences then ill play the synth lines, and sing live.. im using a Virus TI, and roland xr for drums, also Battery 3, and strings n stuff.. just trying to learn Cubase now to get all my ideas and songs together.. Keep it up bro..
I've been doing the gatein rig now and then, yeah. I don't really even have a problem with FL, it's really easy to use, I just find hardware more interesting. And expensive! :P
hey thats really cool. ive been trying to do that by midi out on frutyloops and sending the data to an korg microkontrol as a usb midi interface to send it to an mc 909 but i have not been lucky. i appreciate if you could help me out.
Yea, software just isn't too fun to use. Even FruityLoops just isn't as much fun as using a hardware seq. Too much visual feedback. And I hate that FL quantize. I've been trying to just play parts, or using an MC909 to sequence most of my stuff, then just arranging/finalizing it in Acid, Lexicon Alex at thrift store, holy crap! ESQ1 rocks. If you don't want to hunt down a midicv unit, you can do the drum trigger to gate-in trick instead.

One question: How did you synch up all your gear via MIDI since the MC-505 does bot have MIDI through..? thank you.

Still good to watch this. This actual video was what got me into spending money on hardware like one year ago...
Aaaah memories :)

i won't argue with that but then a good midi controller can be cool too if your pc can handle it in real time
