The reason your cartilage swells up and looks jacked up is because your supposed to wait two months before you switch it out and put that ear healer stuff on it ;) mine looks perfect . And I got it done at claires
Im 15 and just got my cartilage done today. I knew guns are bad for cartilage because your ear could collapse. I went to Inkspot Tattoos in a mall and they used a needle. I don't know why everyone says it's gonna be crazy painful and slow with a needle cause I didnt feel mine at all. Pain 1/10 I swear. Other than being a little sore right now it's just fine.
If you're getting pierced at claires you shouldn't be getting pierced.. Let pro's do it. Some states you don't even need to have a license or certification to be able to pierce or tattoo. If you are going to get a piercing don't use a gun. Have it done with a needle. It's way more accurate, less painful, and less damaging. May not always be cheaper but it's way better. Look around and look at portfolios from piercers and choose someone you trust

@MsCherriiblossom all claires are basically the same though yours maybe a little bit more sanitary. professional piercers get 2 years of schooling, claires has a four hour coarse. and they wipe down the guns they use with a wipe, with leaves blood and tissue still on it. and they pierce cartilage with a gun, with shatters the cartilage and has a higher risk of infection, and its more expensive than a professional.

Claire's and piercing pagoda are 2 ENTIRELY different things. At Piercing Pagoda they THROW AWAY THE USED PIERCING GUNS each time. And I would suspect that at Claire's they do as well....but I'm not entirely sure. But, I am 100% ABSOLUTELY positive that they do at Piercing Pagoda.
Cartilage piercings don't hurt much. I got all mine done with a gun, so it was over quickly. They got infected, but that is because my ear rejected the jewellery, so I changed the earrings and now they're fine.
I think it all just depends on where you get the piercing, what kind of jewellery is used and how you care for it afterward.
I've always gotten my piercings done with a gun and i have to say it is very painful. And if any1 is thinking of going to walmart, i say dnt do it, cos i went there 1 time and it was way more painful then when i got mine done at the mall
Guns definately hurt worse than a needle. I got my lobes done with a gun and my lip done with a needle and the needle was far less painful. With a needle it just feels like a lot of pressure and a little sting. Not bad at all. Coming from a person with about a 5 out of 10 rate of pain tolerance.
Wow looks painful. I pierced my cartilage myself about a year ago with an ear-piercing gun (still have the piercing to this day), it got infected and I couldn't sleep on that side for 3 months. Ha. Well now all is good, but yeah people, definitely DO NOT get your cartilage pierced with a gun. Worst move to make!!

Guys, the whole needle vs. gun thing isn't so much about the pain; it's about how it's safer and cleaner to get pierced with a needle. The gun shoots the stud (a blunt object) through your ear with force. That's like slamming a brick through a cardboard box or some shit. Also, There's no way to properly sterilize the guns. Therefore, if someone has a disease that's transferable through blood, it's possible to pass it on to others being pierced with the same gun.
i Got my carilage done with a gun like 6 weeks ago and nothing happened. i had it done 4 times--nothing. i would recomend it because it's painless and more useful than a needle
was this at the piercing pagoda at the jefferson mall. i got mine done about four years ago and just two weeks after getting it don it got really infected.. i dont recommend getting the cartilge done with a gun

everyone is making such a big deal about using a gun vs. a needle. idk if this girl got her cartilage or her lobe done. piercing lobes with a gun doesn't really matter, its mostly fat. I work at claire's and i can assure you not everyone is like the girl you see in this video. where i work we are not allowed to flash our skin first of all, and for those of you who talk down about people who work in the mall, if the management is correct, we are properly trained and certified to pierce ears.
omg, they did the same thing to me. it wouldn't, or something got stuck in my ear. and they started like yanking it. and it hurt so bad. i was about 8 at the time, so they decided to do both ears at the SAME time AND sneak up on me. my mother told them to never do that again. only one ear got stuck. stupid mall people thinking they're professionals. they should leave piercing, any kind, even ears, to people who actually work in a piercing shop and have experieince. not just one of those
I've had piercings done at Claires and a proffessional piercing place and let me tell you one thing, the needle doesn't hurt at all. I have no gunky shit coming out the piercings either. When I had the gun used, it hurt like a bitch, the piercing was constantly leaking stuff and it got infected and left lumps of scar tissue in my ear. Needle is the best guys, seriously.
If piercing with a gun was wrong , then people could sue wal-mart & wal-mart, or any other place for that matter, wouldn't be piercing with a gun. It's fine to pierce with a gun, if you don't like blood then you're better off getting pierced with a gun. I've done many piercings on the ear with both a gun & hollow needles. the only difference is a needle doesn't hurt as bad but you usually bleed a lot more when getting pierced with needles.
please don't give people bad advice. first of all, you should not be bleeding with a needle. if you are, something was done incorrectly. secondly, guns are incapable of being properly sterilized, increasing the risk of infection. finally, a hollow needle removes the extra flesh, making healing easier. a gun basically shoves a blunt object into your flesh, causing it to be pushed into the body where it can not heal.
@trippyxshiz Pretty good point. If it were as horrible as people make it out to be then it really would be illegal. Health hazard and all that. Crap happens sometimes but I think it's been stretched a bit. Guns are fine for some piercings, but not all in my opinion.

i sterilize gold all of the time. real gold doesn't turn green. 18 kt or better. you are right about all of the other stuff for sure. plus the basic fact that they are using a pierbing gun that has probably been used on everybody in that mall. way to go

There's no proper way to sterilize the gun. Even if the store claims to be sterile they're probably lying. Don't take your chances and spend a little more money and go to a professional piercing/tattoo salon and get it done right - it hurts a lot less or not at all too. Most professionals use hollow needles that remove the skin during piercing and relieve pressure whereas the crappy guns just push their way between the skin, causing throbbing and other issues plus making infection easier.
@rearocks7 Walmart is fine to get them pierced at. I got my oldest daughters ear pierced their and they where great. they should do them at the same time if thir are 2 people that are trained for it. I am foing to get my youngest done at walmarts also.(probably because my friends are the ones that are the piercers=)

Yes it is, research it and you'll find that people recommend needle for sanitary reasons, and also because the gun is bad for your tissue and is more likely to cause keloids and bumps.
@SanzoXGodess13 it depends. if you're getting your lobe done a gun is fine because most of your lobe is fat. if you're getting cartilage pierced then a hollow needle is best for healing!

Piercing pagoda is a marvelous example of the blind mutilating the blind, and then leading them. This poor individual got exactly the kind of experience she paid for.
You actually can sterilize gold in an autoclave. It does not turn green. We do it all the time with the jewelry we purchase after we buy it. White gold however should not be used for initial piercings as it has too many components some of which could be cheap and therefore unsafe for an initial piercing.

Im sorry that happened to you =( got my right ear cartliage pearcing done with a gun in padoga a week and a half ago and it came out fine . it was sore at first , but it got better . I personally clean it more then 3 times a day.. it didn't get infected really bad. Now it doesn't even hurt anymore , even if I touch it. I'm planning to get my left ear done soon . I'm really happy with mines =)

i had my ear pierced for the first time with a gun at the mall and the next morning i could like a 6G earring in what was supposed to be a 14g hole. never use a piercing gun. use the needles. safer and hurt less.

Getting your ears pierced with a gun does not hurt one bit, I have 3 holes in each ear I don't wear earings in any of them anymore. I have my belly button pierced(I pierced it) on the bottom&the top I've done it numerous times, each time they've been ripped out. I'm getting snake bites a septum soon :D I've pierced a lot of things Belly button as said before, lip, tongue, nose, arm, cheek. Just random things.

I've gotten all my piercings done with a gun, 6 ear , and a nose, and i am fine. Mine were pierced with gold, i'm fine. And the guns are sterile. They use the earring to pierce you, and the eariing is sterile. You can clean the ends of the gun, so dont say its not sterile. My cartilage is fine, and so is my nose .
@FCUKqueen The guns aren't sterile at all. Yeah, it doesn't touch your ear in most cases, but particles from the blood can get on the gun. So if the person touches the gun and then your ear, you're contaminated. Guns are only cleaned with alcohol wipes which do NOT sterilize anything! Guns would melt in an autoclave, which is the only way to sterilize tools and jewelry.
I am just saying that i got my ear lobes pierced, and then my cartilage a couple days ago, and nothing has gone wrong with the piercing guns. I dont know why people freak out so much because of piercing guns.
i personally hate guns. but. really the thing that freaks me out is location not the tool. i would never get pierced at a mall! in a lot of states training/certification is not required to pierce ppl. just a learning session and it's about an hour. at least at a tattoo shop its a bit easier to research reviews and a good tattoo place will not let any yahoo pierce ppl cuz its a bad reflection on the whole shop if the work is crappy. but its all a crap-shoot. plenty of bad tattoo shops too.

2. They are going to pierce you with gold. ( gold cant be prop sterilized (turns green)
3. They use the same pair of gloves to set up their station and touch you for piercing. A pair of gloves should be used to set up station( open bags but do not touch the tools), and the same pair for marking you, Then a new pair should be put on to pierce you.
4. Jewelery, tools, gloves and needle were not in a sterile sealed bag
This isnt a shop. Its just an earring stand in malls. I'm pretty sure they do cartilage piercings with the guns as well. They are probably not even trained workers.

Wow you all are idiots!!! I'm a piercer. Never ever pierce with a gun because, one you can never clean them all the way. Think of all the blood getting sprayed to/in the spring. Next person to get pierced gets that; maybe contaminated blood. Two, your not cutting your forcing something throw your skin. A needle cuts a nice clean hole (less trauma), And the girl that said she pierces her self with a sewing needle. You cant fully sterilize it. Burning it and or just swirling it in alch does shit

I can't believe they still use those barbaric things-me sick. What's even worse is that they pierce people's noses with them too. The gun shoots the stud (a blunt object) through your ear with force. That's like slamming a brick through a cardboard box or some shit. Also, There's no way to properly sterilize the guns. Therefore, if someone has a disease that's transferable through blood, it's possible to pass it on to others being pierced with the same gun.

everyone is making such a big deal about using a gun vs. a needle. idk if this girl got her cartilage or her lobe done. piercing lobes with a gun doesn't really matter, its mostly fat. I work at claire's and i can assure you not everyone is like the girl you see in this video. where i work we are not allowed to flash our skin first of all, and for those of you who talk down about people who work in the mall, if the management is correct, we are properly trained and certified to pierce ears.

omg, they did the same thing to me. it wouldn't, or something got stuck in my ear. and they started like yanking it. and it hurt so bad. i was about 8 at the time, so they decided to do both ears at the SAME time AND sneak up on me. my mother told them to never do that again. only one ear got stuck. stupid mall people thinking they're professionals. they should leave piercing, any kind, even ears, to people who actually work in a piercing shop and have experieince. not just one of those

I've had piercings done at Claires and a proffessional piercing place and let me tell you one thing, the needle doesn't hurt at all. I have no gunky shit coming out the piercings either. When I had the gun used, it hurt like a bitch, the piercing was constantly leaking stuff and it got infected and left lumps of scar tissue in my ear. Needle is the best guys, seriously.

If piercing with a gun was wrong , then people could sue wal-mart & wal-mart, or any other place for that matter, wouldn't be piercing with a gun. It's fine to pierce with a gun, if you don't like blood then you're better off getting pierced with a gun. I've done many piercings on the ear with both a gun & hollow needles. the only difference is a needle doesn't hurt as bad but you usually bleed a lot more when getting pierced with needles.

please don't give people bad advice. first of all, you should not be bleeding with a needle. if you are, something was done incorrectly. secondly, guns are incapable of being properly sterilized, increasing the risk of infection. finally, a hollow needle removes the extra flesh, making healing easier. a gun basically shoves a blunt object into your flesh, causing it to be pushed into the body where it can not heal.

There's no proper way to sterilize the gun. Even if the store claims to be sterile they're probably lying. Don't take your chances and spend a little more money and go to a professional piercing/tattoo salon and get it done right - it hurts a lot less or not at all too. Most professionals use hollow needles that remove the skin during piercing and relieve pressure whereas the crappy guns just push their way between the skin, causing throbbing and other issues plus making infection easier.

Yes it is, research it and you'll find that people recommend needle for sanitary reasons, and also because the gun is bad for your tissue and is more likely to cause keloids and bumps.

You actually can sterilize gold in an autoclave. It does not turn green. We do it all the time with the jewelry we purchase after we buy it. White gold however should not be used for initial piercings as it has too many components some of which could be cheap and therefore unsafe for an initial piercing.

Im sorry that happened to you =( got my right ear cartliage pearcing done with a gun in padoga a week and a half ago and it came out fine . it was sore at first , but it got better . I personally clean it more then 3 times a day.. it didn't get infected really bad. Now it doesn't even hurt anymore , even if I touch it. I'm planning to get my left ear done soon . I'm really happy with mines =)

There are ways to have your ears safely pierced with a gun- but if they try to pierce you anywhere else with a gun go somewhere else.
Personally I say go to a shop with a needle, even for your ears, because it's more sterile and the piercer has more control over the needle.

Getting your ears pierced with a gun does not hurt one bit, I have 3 holes in each ear I don't wear earings in any of them anymore. I have my belly button pierced(I pierced it) on the bottom&the top I've done it numerous times, each time they've been ripped out. I'm getting snake bites a septum soon :D I've pierced a lot of things Belly button as said before, lip, tongue, nose, arm, cheek. Just random things.

I've gotten all my piercings done with a gun, 6 ear , and a nose, and i am fine. Mine were pierced with gold, i'm fine. And the guns are sterile. They use the earring to pierce you, and the eariing is sterile. You can clean the ends of the gun, so dont say its not sterile. My cartilage is fine, and so is my nose .

@FCUKqueen The guns aren't sterile at all. Yeah, it doesn't touch your ear in most cases, but particles from the blood can get on the gun. So if the person touches the gun and then your ear, you're contaminated. Guns are only cleaned with alcohol wipes which do NOT sterilize anything! Guns would melt in an autoclave, which is the only way to sterilize tools and jewelry.

i personally hate guns. but. really the thing that freaks me out is location not the tool. i would never get pierced at a mall! in a lot of states training/certification is not required to pierce ppl. just a learning session and it's about an hour. at least at a tattoo shop its a bit easier to research reviews and a good tattoo place will not let any yahoo pierce ppl cuz its a bad reflection on the whole shop if the work is crappy. but its all a crap-shoot. plenty of bad tattoo shops too.

Get the F out of the shop if,
1. The piercer puts the jewelery in alch
2. They are going to pierce you with gold. ( gold cant be prop sterilized (turns green)
3. They use the same pair of gloves to set up their station and touch you for piercing. A pair of gloves should be used to set up station( open bags but do not touch the tools), and the same pair for marking you, Then a new pair should be put on to pierce you.
4. Jewelery, tools, gloves and needle were not in a sterile sealed bag

Wow you all are idiots!!! I'm a piercer. Never ever pierce with a gun because, one you can never clean them all the way. Think of all the blood getting sprayed to/in the spring. Next person to get pierced gets that; maybe contaminated blood. Two, your not cutting your forcing something throw your skin. A needle cuts a nice clean hole (less trauma), And the girl that said she pierces her self with a sewing needle. You cant fully sterilize it. Burning it and or just swirling it in alch does shit

Lol thanks. I'm just sick of young girls coming to my work place, saying they want what they did fixed. Or it got infected. I've had tons of ppl come to me with a collapsed ear. They get a helix( piercing at the top of the ear) done and the cartilage "falls".. Everyone used a gun. The gun causes so much trauma!!

I can't believe they still use those barbaric things-me sick. What's even worse is that they pierce people's noses with them too.
