  • @Neilgs: I agree with you actually. ABA should be backed up with other EBP like floortime and DIR to create naturalistic settings. However ABA does provide the foundational steps to encourage early educational responses, the 'window of opportunity'. ABA is clinically proven effective. Yes I agree that ABA alone isnt the key to improve naturalistic response. But DTT with ABA helps improve IQ cognitive skills up to 28 points in ASD children.

  • I wonder what Brendan was thinking.... (this lady must be raving mad, but lets do what she asks......)

  • lol omg

  • they treat these poor Kids like animal. she says to Brenden good Boy then when he does something right she says Good Boy and then she gives him treates. thats just wrong. those poor people.

    Melissa

  • so...how's torture and genocide supporting people doing?

  • thosekids are not like animals >:( they feed them like dogs

  • This method of teaching gave my son language and a life , he now has friends and loves listening to his mp3 and playing video games with his brother! Call it what you want, it works . We all respond the postive and remember it. For example , your boss gives you a raise for work well done... will you continue to work hard ? Yes !

  • No. If you're an NT, you become more sociopathic and tend to 'leech' more; making this method of enforcing 'conformal behaviours' on us hypocritical when you know-nothing confidence-men are SICK yourselves. CEOs are most notorious for this.

  • +1 to you. This doctor has a reputation for torturing autistic people to make them 'normal'

  • if it works, it works. behavioral modification/positive reinforcement works. so be it. it also works when holding up signs and pictures and having them point out the sign/pic when you say a word, and having them match it up. not just mocking a sound.

  • this is the basic level of speech and using rienforcers (like rewards) for accomplishment.. people my son is on this and it works wonders.. intensive early intervention is the best before age 3.. if you can get it the sooner the better are their chances and being able to communicate

  • @jaymers25 With all due respect, this has NOTHING to do with genuine language and communication. Verbal behavior and applied behavioral analysis in general creates functional Robotic language responses. Going to where your child is, doing of what is of interest to him; create mutual back and forth pleasurable based engagement around with what s/he like with facial nuanced emotional and body expression; joining in with a child natural sounds, movements and slowing adding to it creates the

  • @Neilgs necessary emotional-developmental foundation for true integrated social/language communication, not robotic responses. Parents whose child were not responding at all, are understandably quite grateful to something rather than nothing; so that is why ABA is so appealing. But it is resoundingly Non-Developmental; as it fails to cultivate social emotional meaningful relating and true (pragmatic) language and communicating, Dev/Relationship based approaches, i.e., DIR/Floortime does.

  • They are communicating with the children at a level they understand. It is more insulting to attempt to use language and methods which the children do not understand.

  • They are treating those people like dogs! Disgusting! I was NEVER treated like a dog!

  • rdi....now out autism for dummies i know the name is horrible lol but parents ur go to book check it out...
