  • Fantastic keep it on man

  • Well done, but work on it a little bit more. You have the chops, no doubt. Now all you need is the seasoning...

  • Your profile says age 47 but don't you look a day older than 22! LOL Are you the profile owner's son or something? LOL

  • Great Job!!!!!!!!!!!.keep up the good work....

  • Not perfect, but a VERY decent attempt!! I've been playing for 30 years now, and would have NEVER even tried this one at your age!! Awesome job, mate!! :) Keep up the great work!!

  • Hey man i'm about the same age as you and I getting really close to being able to play this. Awesome job!

  • omg 14 look at his hands he has the tools and if he keeps it he'll be fucking amazing

  • I know where some sheet music for this is. If you're still reading tabs, maybe you should consider learning to read music before tackling something like this,

  • Fuck what they say, you're 14 and playing jaco... well done my friend.

  • wow.. are you really 14?

to be honest i am kind of pissed that a 14 year old can pull off something like this but still...you were great

    i'm jealous. kid..

  • For a 14 yr old, your awesome kid!! You play a lot better than then what your given credit for. Keep it up, you'll only going to get better.

  • not perfect but good...keep on

  • Although I'm glad you give the musician credit for his taste and interest, I don't really think the criticisms you're lobbing at this 14 year old are applicable. I wouldn't expect most bassists his age to be at this level, would you? Obviously, he allowed people to comment and rate the video, so he's inviting your honest opinion. So, criticize away. But I have to ask - why risk discouraging someone while they're young by cutting them down? Advice is great, I'd just rather this was more positive.

  • $699-$799

  • If im correct is that a geddy lee jazz bass.?

  • yeah but at 14 what do you expect!?! when hes a season bassist in a few more years he will kill this song!!!

  • Comment removed

  • oh yeah I cant even come close to playing this song & im already getting paid to do gigs!!!!!!! So i would say this kids pretty good..for the bass!!!

  • i concur, do what 1user0123 said before you decide to play small fills in between too, otherwise ,good try!

  • good men

  • great work on a great classic.

  • i have same bass and you are amazing you can play it as well as me nice

  • Fan-tastic!

I'm a 45 year old musician and saw Weather Report before this young man was born.

You are way ahead of the curve at 14 my man.

    Keep on going!

  • Nice!

  • Yeah!

    nice :)

    Greetings from mex

  • Great job! Keep playing!

  • This little dude is ripping on a whole different level. He will melt your face and you will like it. check my vids.

  • Excellent job! I just nailed it down myself on guitar and had to see if there are players still interested in practising the legendary Jaco version - seems there indeed are! You definitely got talent, keep on playing and all the best to your future prospects!

  • there ya go !!!

  • man I'm glad young people are still learning these things. When I was 14 back in the 90s I was like no way, we're the last generation of people that will be playin this shit... but nope, here you are! It's only gonna get better

one word of advice, watch out on sustaining those opening octaves!!!

  • you need to slow it down and play it properly.

  • he's playing with the original weather report version in the background, im pretty sure he's doing it properly.

  • As much as I'd like to compliment the young guy playing..He really does need to play it properly...But I'm sure with enough "shedding" he'll get it right...

  • nice bass i have the same one!

  • U have a great future ahead waiting for U ! keep that groovy way...great work!

  • hard as fawk

  • Well done on getting this down! I tried and gave up :-)

  • your young, shy and have a long way to go,but there's light at the end of the tunnel,,,nice one. keep it up

  • Don't worry about that stupid comment, a deranged bass wannabee. You are on your way, great, good rhythm and attack.

  • just keep at it as long as you have fun & love doing it , then nothing can go wrong

  • who could possibly come on here and talk shit about this kid.

    GREAT JOB !!

    Music is love, kids.

  • A bit out of tempo in the fastest riffs. Just a little more practice and you'll play it perfectly ;)

  • more practice

  • exactly. I just read in the Jaco book that one of Jaco's pet peeves in his last days were all the "Jaco clones" that were using his technique and sound and getting gigs and whatnot. I'm trying to learn from Jaco, but I'll be my own player.

  • amazing tone love it

  • great job charlie! you got the notes down pat.. work on your tempo and groove it like a son of a gun.... that the ultimate thing one can learn from Jaco. Monster grooving!

  • great job charlie! you got the notes down pat.. work on your tempo and groove it like a son of a gun.... that the ultimate thing one can learn from Jaco. Monster grooving!

  • Good work, but find your own style as you grow up. Aspire to be the "first Nash" instead of the "next Pastorius".

  • hey... you play really good man

watch my video, I play the same song but... i commit a lot of mistakes :P

    thanks man.. take care!

    BYE.

  • i like the bass. i have the exact same one. was yours made in japan?

  • love that neck! what is it? whered you get it? and whats the body?

a little off the subject i know

  • Fender geddy lee sig j bass

  • Good work!!! keep on practicing;D

  • Wow man! Great work!

  • your bass is a little out of tune with the recording, other than that nice work

  • flawless technique....

    well played...nice one!

  • you r really good. keep playin that j.

  • YOU ROCK CHARLIE.

  • me 2... awesome tones in it...

  • thats cause it is! =)

  • well done, and I think you've got the essential feel for teen town. practice is often overlooked as the key, practice and more practice.

  • tu cu si pi scriveri levici manu??

  • get the live version now ;) and it would be perfect^^

  • Well done kid..... Well done

Try some Jeff Berlin and Percy Jones too...

I wish I could play like that at your age

    Jaco

  • Cool.....more he loose the time sometimes

  • Nicely done! Keep it up and you'll be one of the best.

  • Great! You are impressive!

  • Bending the strings alot... I've been there..

Ripped out the frets with my 'grown-up hands'... Not really hard to get the hang of it.. Now, then one would ask, How do I manage to get the clean slapping sound out of a fretless.... uhmm really thin super wound strings and a gentle touch. Dont forget yer compressor/limiter! :o)

  • When you grow and play like this on a fretless youd be awsome! good job!!

  • awesome man. I'm 14 too and my brother and I play this pretty crappy, but you nailed it.

  • Jaco would be very impressed!

  • great...anyway take it easy

  • I am impressed. I have been playing for over 8 years and I still cannot learn this song no matter how hard I try. You look to be about 5 years younger than me, so all I gotta say is keep it up, you're on the right track to becoming awesome.

  • ur pretty sikk dude. keep it up

  • awe thats cute... hats off its a good job. keep on jaming

  • Awesome job my man! I am a Jaco fan, and you hit this one pretty good. Ive been playing it for about six months and its a tuffy. That little skip over on the D String in the beginning is tough to get down. Keep up the good work! I here you want to learn Donna Lee - go for it! That song is hard as hell, but sounds oh so good.

  • ..just a litle more groove

  • nice,,, u you should use open strings for this tecnique your digitation is more for slap... teen town

  • keep practicing slowly, really slowly, so you can get the timing perfect, you need to be completely on at about 40 BPM, and keep going up by about 2BPM at a time

  • for a young kid, you are a nasty bassist!! dont ever stop.......you will notice you have more control if you arch your fingers

  • great tone, intonation, dynamics. it seems your fingers fall a little off track sometimes, so the timing needs some work. but it sounds like you have great "internal" time, so with some more practice your fingers will follow you 100% and it will be perfect . keep it up man!

  • You have great rhythm, keep it up.

  • nice man. keep working on that speed, then it'l be perfect!

  • is that a geddy lee sig bass?

  • Yeah

  • Excellent job...very inspirering..jaco lives

  • Great work, keep it up and try keep the ego in check.

  • Damned great. Get thee hence to a band....Good luck

  • i don't know how to do the 6 first notes !!!!

  • not bad

  • My dad just said if I learn this song by tomorrow, he'll buy me a new bass. Looks like an all night deal. Great playing, by the way!

  • Great job for such a young musician !! It's nice to see a young person who shows motivation, intelligence, and drive !!

  • good work, especially considering your age.

Our bassist sure can't do that.

  • nice bass kid

i got the very same axe

  • Well done, that's testament to the Geddy Lee and it's awesomeness.

  • the critics just don't know how to be respectful..congratz on the effort from someone who knows how hard being an accomplished anything is, especially artist.....especially in non-supportive critic monger amerika

keybords /bass/ hand percussion & anything available

  • wow!

  • ive just started learnin this tune an i duno y my bass teacher sed i shud try it coz it is sooo difficult. great job m8! dat song is so hard-i can hardly move my fingers dat fast

  • don´t give him shit cause he ain´t got a fretles...and yeah he might have a few timing problems but hey this song ain´t easy he´s way better than i´ll ever be and i respect him. great job! you´ll be great someday!

  • you have to learn more this tune... and buy a Metronome!!! (and a fretless bass...)

  • Metronome metronome metronome Metronome metronome metronome Metronome....

  • Hey Kid right on Baby! one day you'll be a Bass Star, never give up-p.s: I wanted to be a studio Bassist, but it did'nt happen for me, raising fam etc Army anyway, if ya get famous and need a professional driver, remeber Bigrick-brick7985 at msn dot com and that's for you Bigshots Too, I could really use a break, besides I want to get back near the music!

  • Very good but , fretless is better (squier vintage modified jazz bass fretless it's an very good bass)

  • don't forget to listen to the music man...

  • Wow, that's just awesome.

  • very good but ... You need a fretless ! =D

  • how long have you been playing?

  • nice job!

  • I guess I am mainly impressed that a 14 year old has the patience to learn something so advance:) good for you, and glad to see you have found the right genre to be learning!

  • sure is

  • pretty good u need a little work but very impressive

  • good work man,but you are a little too fast

  • fourteen? playing like this? no way.

hey, when you reache 18, you'll be a great great player! keep the work!

  • Wow Charlie! Nice work. I've been wood shedding this tune recently and I can give you some advice. The intro (with the C to the octave ect.) and a few other spots sounded muddy and could use a little spring cleaning. Slow that sucker down and play it accurately, preferably with a metronome. Perfect practice makes perfect, right? Timing was of at times but hey, you keep working on this and it will slip right into the groove. Best of luck and keep thumping!

  • no, play it slower. sounds like you dont work up your tempo

  • good job bro

  • Amazing song, and you covered it pretty well! Right now I'm trying to play it :)

  • T-Riff!

  • almost there bro........timing.....tone

  • AWesome bro! Nice work! I love it! You should play the version from the Live album 8:30... that would be sickness!

  • A great effort, but Jaco would ask you about "cutting the string". This means your left hand attack.

Work on that and your time and you there dude, keep at it.

  • almost there keep on practicing

  • You are awesome man! Keep up the good work!

  • I've been playing bass longer than you've been alive, and I'd love to be able to swing that song as well as you can. Well done!

  • nice bass!! keep grooving

  • Pretty good for a 14 year old, yet ur timing is off - much to improve.

    Alright.

  • Pretty good? Hell its brilliant for a 14 year old.

  • I was 17 when I played it but I started at 16 . very nice your parents must be musicians

  • Did you learn that by picking buy ear or by reading the music to it?

  • so young and play that kind of music, wow

  • Very nice. 14? Wow, you'll be great someday. Nice work.

  • You got the notes... now get the timing. Good job 3 stars.

  • waaaah im so inlove with you <3

  • That sounds like the Korean made Geddy Lee sig bass.

  • is that an Geddy Lee signature Jazz bass?

  • Yeah!

  • DAMN FOOL!! GO AHEAD WIT YO BADSELF!!!

  • That was quite impressive! I'm working on this tune now (again!) and I know what it takes to play it. Just make sure you get every note TIGHT as a virgin, and you'll nail it. =)

  • Holy crap... you are amazing.

  • nice job Charlie, keep it going with the Jaco! Check out me and my nephew Justin playin this tune, he's also 14 and has been playin bass 2 years - we just put it up under ElectricBillyLand

  • come on ... you should to try easy songs!

  • Jaco wrote teen town not weather report

  • DAMN DUDE! I'm just a year older than you, been playing for about 2 years and I could so not do that. At least not yet, hehe. Anyways, you got talent bro! Keep up the good work, and it'll get perfect with practise ;) good luck further!

  • good shit man keep jamin

  • Good Job

  • nice job charlie!;)

  • Really great right hand man!

  • im not ur friend

  • not BAD dude, not BAD! I mean, it's not 100% there yet but jesus you're 14? And someone else defintiely said it, the groove is THERE, and that can't be taught.

    man you're good.

  • Well Done!

  • Half of the bass players I know could'nt touch this song. This kid has a future.

  • My first bass teacher handed me that tune after I'd been playing only a year-couldn't play it then...can't play it now. I'm guessing Im twice your age. Great job, bro.

  • As someone said earlier - practice SLOWLY, it's still too early for you to play it really good in this tempo. And the ending is really bad :) But you have talent, just need more practice. And great sound, almost like hearing Jaco :)

  • Technically this is a toughie (I remember the hell I went through trying to figure it out many years ago). If I can make a suggestion you should focus on phrasing it more expressively and stopping and starting notes more clearly. It's also an interesting song to embellish with your own little additions. Keep up the good work.

  • hey charlie, the only thing you have to do is RELAX,just try to calm down man.outside of that, youre on the right track.channel that nervous energy in the right direction.

  • Don't listen to the negative comments!!! Your groove is there! I bet the guys that say you need to work on your groove need work too!! You are doing great!!!

  • great job!! Very hard song to play? Ops, I heard some strange tunes...

  • Still learning this one myself, just so fun to play.

  • Great job Charlie!!!

  • Thanks everyone, i'll try and take your advice.

  • all ya gotta do now is practice it SLOWLY then you'll get it... It's such a fun song for us bassists to play that we tend to rush, huh? :)

  • You could work your groove.

    Good Try

  • VERRY GOOD!!! MY NAME IS IGOR OF MEXICO

  • nice geddy lee signature bass dude...i have the same one. but yeah dude...i struggle with that song. keep up the good work!

  • not bad but learn the correct notes first, get a transcript. Also your left hand is jumping around too much. Jaco played the whole song with only 3 hand positions

  • The 3 Hand position thing was Jaco's style, plus he had quite big hands. Not all of us are that blessed but we do what we can. It dosen't matter at all that his hands are jumping around, considering a lot of bassists can't play this song, I thikn he did a fine job.

  • maybe use side to side vibrato instead?

  • charlie, you showed you will be a great bassplayer.

    Good attempt!

  • Work on relaxing more Charlie... You'll get it.. :-)

  • wow, not perfect but still very good!

  • Cool man,Teen Town is a tough one. Nice classic Fender tone. Movement is also important in bass playing. LOL ('cause In my clip I don't move at all) but it helps a lot in keeping the groove. It helped to get rid of my habit of tapping the beats with picking hand (No big deal, but annoying in the studio.More videos please

  • cool dude like your playin

  • nice, jaco is the man

  • you played it well.. but youre playing a fretted bass.... playing teen town well on a fretless is another story..

  • Not yet perfect but really good, as a bass player i know how hard that song is to play
