My mother died of lung cancer in 2001. I was 15 at the time. I remember she used to sing this to me eveynight at bed. Well today is 17th of October and she has been deaD 11 Yrs now. I just wanted everyone to know that with her last words ( she was panting and gasping for air) she looked at me and said "The Sweetest Thing I've Ever Known, Is Loving You."
When I hear this song it brings back memories of a long lost love. He is still in my heart....even though he does not care...that part hurts..we could have had a wonderful life together but I chose to give him his freedom...thinking it was best for him...now I wonder what could have been if our lives had come together. He is a wonderful and loving Father and I hope that he has true happiness forever.
Ithas been 4 years since I last posted, Yes I am still alive, 82 on June 5, and still love this song. I am doing good but miss my sweet Mike. This is Memorial Day and I visited him and put Flag for his service to our country. Wishing you all a wonderful life.
I really loved these Juice Newton songs from the first two albums I bought, starting with the 1981 album that had the "Angel of the Morning"! She had really good songs on both of those albums! Peace, BobbyK
This is one of the best songs ever written. If you aren't moved by the words and the way Juice sings it well then you have died. This song moves my soul. Awsome
This song was on the boom-boxes as I ran around the wards all night as an intern at Cook Co. Hospital, 1981-1982. Corny, yes, but true, nonetheless. Nearly 30 years later, I find myself e-mailing it to the man who is, truly, The Sweetest Thing.
Anybody have the original version, with steel guitar, in place of the oboe? Even 'American top 40' played the steel guitar mix. Hit #1 country, AC, and #7 pop in Billboard. God bless!
My grandad passed away from cancer at home in his bed early on the 11th of April this year. He asked that this song be played at his funeral as his final words of love to his wife of 53 years, my nanna. His funeral will be later this week and I've been learning the song so that I can sing it to my nanna any time she's struggling.
Thank you for 25 years of love and guidance grandad. Nothing will ever be the same without you. I love and miss you so much <3 xx

How convinient, a singer and some dude playing the guitar walking through the park just happens to go around the corner and a band is playing. When I do that I only find some black guy trying to sell me some dope.
Yeah it is a sence of humor. some peolpe need to lighten up. People need not to be so sensitive. Strange thing is I do not even remember writing this statement, so it must have been some good dope. Also, it is not the size of the pen its the hand writing that matters.
Miley Cyrus is in high school and entertains her peers. She should not have a song about reluctantly admitting the pleasure of having a confusing and illicit affair.
yet she strips on cam, does soft core porn (pics in mag) and did a pole dance almost half nude at that award show. I would say she already has done far worst.
Wow, this takes me back. I still remember my first love and this song. First love is much more powerful than I ever thought before now. I have recently discovered that those feelings are still there and are still very much alive. Thank you "My 1st Love" for loving me back then and for the love you have for me today. :=))
its amazing words and melody, and divine vocal delivery, one of the most beautiful recordings ever made! I am thankful that at least for a time I lived in a country and a time where people had the heart, the sense and talent to know this was good. Long ago and far away, yet here it plays today! Thanks Juice!
Drumsroses, it's folks like you that truly show that it's never too late in life to find love. I'm so sorry for your loss, but I know that you will see him again. Just before Christmas, I worked a death investigation. The last word out of the mans mouth was his wife's name. I thought how sad, yet wonderful that it was the last thing he said. I'm sure it was a true testiment of the love that they shared for one another.
My husband died in January, and when I heard this on the radio, It discribed our short 5 years together, He was 88 and I am 78. He was the sweetest thing I have ever known. I will miss him forever. Thank you for this song.
@DRUMSROSES I hope you get to read this response DRUMROSES. While I am very sorry for your loss, I am happy and grateful that you got to experience something in 5 years that some people search for but never find in a whole time. God bless you.

Great singer, fanatsic song. Not a fan of this video though. Juice Newton was MUCH prettier than this video shows.

As a black guy with a sense of humour, I take that as a joke. Any other implication would be rejected with a fat dick down your throat :-)
