  • Since you ended the scan via task manager and force quit the app, you effectively shut down Norton. To reactivate, you would have to restart the PC. Also, why did you turn off protection. Click "fix now" to turn it on. Pls do an accurate retest.

Also, you could say always remove low risk threats. I think some items are requiring manual deletion since it is using the "cloud av" to detect the file (i.e. submitting to the cloud to do a scan there). It could be done to avoid false positives.

  • @wikipedian7 It should never have frozen up like that. And it was not because of me ending it through task manager. It had crashed two other times while I was not recording, and I had not done anything. I always turn off the antivirus when extracting, or it would take too long to extract. I turn it on after scanning the folder twice so I can scan without getting popups. Usually I turn it on after and run a few malware.

  • @char1661 If you leave it a while while it is "processing threats" it will not freeze up. However, if you command it to do something while it is working, it sometimes freeze up. If you click "close program," the entire Norton thread will crash and you will have to restart the PC.

At least can you do a retest?

  • @wikipedian7 I'll think about doing a retest. I might just redo the on-demand though. Still, in my opinion, and antivirus should NEVER crash. I would consider it a bug. It is, in my opinion, part of self-defense. If malware managed to get Norton to crash, in a similar or not manner, then your computer would be wide open.

  • @char1661 This time, can you turn off smart definitions (under "update settings" in settings) to see if Norton can get a higher catch rate. Smart definitions only contain the defs Norton consider are prevalent (they are not "full").

  • @wikipedian7 I'll do it once with those enabled and once with them disabled. not sure when i'll do it though, a little busy

  • History is next to "scan now" at 5:49 (you missed it) in the advanced window

  • @wikipedian7 I mean 5:16

  • History of the program is under "advanced." Also right click the icon and select view history.
