@ninuxy let me enlighten you about that very part, The Obama administration is against opening up healthcare across state lines. There would be two benefits to opening up health insurance across state lines. The first benefit would be that there would be more competition between insurers, more competition means lower prices of health insurance because they must compete for business.

If you weren't informed about the rudimentary of how each state writes its "own" law regarding the health care, then you are living in a Lala land. If we allow every insurance company to implement the same laws that have been instituted in its state of inception, across the new state, then we might as well scrap that state's HC law, because after all, that company does not have to comply with the destination state law. This is in direction violation of notion of being a "Republic".
Taking this further, it becomes immediately apparent that the state with the weakest amount of HC law restriction (i.e. state A mandates coverage of cancer 1 to 10 while state B,C, and D mandate coverage of cancer 1 to 20) will overwrite every other state's law, because the insurance company that comes from state A, can, legally, only covers the lesser domain of cancers in states B, C, and D. Obviously the coverage will be cheaper because they are eliminating illnesses 10 to 20.
Are you with me so far? Now, state A's insurance company is sweeping state B, C, and D's patients who go after cheaper package because after all, it has to only cover half the illness in those states. Now the pool of healthier patients are drained from the existing insurance companies in B, C, and D, and leave them with sicker members. This would drive their coverage higher and eventually making all the sick people needing those coverages with no where to turn to.
At the end, state A's insurance company pretty much dominates other state's insurance companies and leave a lot of sick people with no coverage. So either state B, C, and D have to adopt and amend their legislation to cover as less as state A's, a clear violation of their people's "will," or the majority of sick people be covered through government programs.
Do you see how idiotic your solution is now? Of course not. I'm talking to a brick wall, a.k.a. Teanuts.
Your second point is void because it does not address the first one. Try to offer an solution that does not cause the first scenario I just described, then we'll move on to the second part.

There would be two benefits to opening up health insurance across state lines. The first benefit would be that there would be more competition between insurers, more competition means lower prices of health insurance because they must compete for business.

If you weren't informed about the rudimentary of how each state writes its "own" law regarding the health care, then you are living in a Lala land. If we allow every insurance company to implement the same laws that have been instituted in its state of inception, across the new state, then we might as well scrap that state's HC law, because after all, that company does not have to comply with the destination state law. This is in direction violation of notion of being a "Republic".

Taking this further, it becomes immediately apparent that the state with the weakest amount of HC law restriction (i.e. state A mandates coverage of cancer 1 to 10 while state B,C, and D mandate coverage of cancer 1 to 20) will overwrite every other state's law, because the insurance company that comes from state A, can, legally, only covers the lesser domain of cancers in states B, C, and D. Obviously the coverage will be cheaper because they are eliminating illnesses 10 to 20.

Now, state A's insurance company is sweeping state B, C, and D's patients who go after cheaper package because after all, it has to only cover half the illness in those states. Now the pool of healthier patients are drained from the existing insurance companies in B, C, and D, and leave them with sicker members. This would drive their coverage higher and eventually making all the sick people needing those coverages with no where to turn to.

At the end, state A's insurance company pretty much dominates other state's insurance companies and leave a lot of sick people with no coverage. So either state B, C, and D have to adopt and amend their legislation to cover as less as state A's, a clear violation of their people's "will," or the majority of sick people be covered through government programs.

You have no idea wether or not these people did or did not protest the Patriot act or any other issues. Also UHC wil ensure that the poor along with all other americans will get no health care, not good affordable healthcare. UHC does not work it's been proven in England, and Canada.

What's more interesting is that the current American system definitely does not work as it leaves 600,000 people bankrupted every single year, 40,000 die because of lack of HC, 45 million don't have it, millions are denied certain coverage through various contracts, and we have effectively becoming the most unhealthiest country in the world. If you wish to do mindless comparisons, perhaps you better pick another venue.

@ale848 - That's funny, since Obamacare was passed, state healthcare will no longer pay for CT scans or chemo for Stage 1 cancer patients. My doctor can't order tests without prior approval from some faceless bureaucrat in a cubicle somewhere. Yes, I can't be denied health insurance, but my premiums have tripled and I can't afford it even though I have a job. Explain how that's supposed to give me free health care. State health care is a death sentence.
