  • Why do they charge around 500 USD for the 160GB SSD as an option? If I buy a 250 GB SSD that is even faster than the one they use, I pay less. Weird.. And why the large Delete key? What idiot came up with that nonsense? Way to go on having us accidentally hit the Delete when we need the Insert key!

  • I see you forget to mention that there is no CD/DVD ROM installed and LAN

  • @Th3tobymw why? just because the screen broke after being misused?

  • cant wait for this laptop. my school sells this and im getting it this feb. can it handle most games eg. team fortress 2 and minecraft

  • @HugoDeHeavyNewsShow same here

  • dvd drive?

  • How about CAD, can it display a small mesh of say half a million cells? Has someone tried this, but would really like to know.

  • I just bought this X220 with Core i7 and 8GB total memory. Will it run SKYRIM?

  • @MrPKnutson Should run Skyrim just fine. The CPU won't be any problem, I tried Skyrim on last gen Core i7, it run smoothly. The game doesn't require dedicated graphics, need 512MB VRAM to run. Have fun! It's an awesome game!

  • no USB 3.0?

  • @deanc2000 USB 3.0 is available to it

  • they need to revise their design!! omg they look like the first laptops coming to the scene... does someone agree with me here?

  • @junkano Nope. We don't agree. Thinkpads are world famous for their design. Maybe you are one of those Apple fanboys who likes silver and white toys. Thinkpads are specifically designed for business use and hence the low profile looks.

  • The battery slice is a 6-cell add-on, weighing 1.66 lbs according to Lenovo's website.

    The official product is called:

    ThinkPad Battery 19+ (6 Cell Slice - X220, X220T)

  • Your hands look like the one who plays piano.

X220 is combination of performance, reliability and its lightweighted. The only downside from my point of view is the touch pad, a nightmare to control. I guess Lenovo only wants to make consumer feel better about the red trackpoint.

  • Nice to see certain Thinkpads giving an IPS screen again.

  • @duffin123123 Thank you very much! Please help us share our reviews with friends and online. Thanks!!

  • does anyone know if the x220 can handle battlefield 3?

  • @osahtout Not well since it has an integrated GPU.

  • @osahtout If you use EGPU (an external graphics card connected via USB 3.0 or expresscard slot) it will play BF3 probably.

  • i bought the x220 about a month ago. i got the "premium" (though it's far from premium) IPS panel with it. and well let me just tell you that by far the worst screen i have used in my life. it HAD HORRIBLE BURN IN EFFECTS i.e. transient image persistence. i would have a browser on the screen and be surfing the net for like 10 minutes, then minimize the window and you would still see the contents of the browser in the blank desktop background. terrible screen avoid it AT ALL COSTS!!! get the TN

  • lol 19+6 cells

  • Faster, last longer, looks better, and is the same price of a MAC... why do people buy MACS ? they are stupid lol

  • @manpaisa92 We buy Macs for it's OS and mutimedia programs. BTW we're not stupid. We use it for our daily work. Just play your COD and MW kid and shut the fuck up :)

  • @VordzProductions What does a Mac does that a PC can't do ? NOTHING. What does a PC can do that a Mac can't MANY THING, one of which is being cheap and play video games :D

  • @manpaisa92 Macs can run on windows. it can run almost all windows applications. Do more research kid or better buy a Mac for you to know more.

  • @VordzProductions I never said Macs can't run Windows lol. Even if they run Windows you won't be able to play anything bigger than an ant in that lol. The only thing I like about Macs is the outside. If I buy one I would buy Windows 7 and buy some RAM and a video camera

  • I don't know about you guys, but the only thing that impresses me with laptops and devices know general are their power management software and their battery life. A lot of these 6 cell batteries lose a significant amount of charge capacity under a year and most laptops are advertised for for 4-5 hours of battery life when they only last 3 hours at most including power saving modes.

That is the only place where apple holds me.

Lenovo has impressed me with this model.

  • not the best in terms of workmanship but sadly still the only subnotebook in market that offers good performance, screen quality & temperature control

  • it looks old

  • no usb 3.0?

  • mac is still better

  • does the lady has problems breathing? sounds too dark.....

  • I was a fan of the Thinkpad X series for 7 or 8 years, but after they killed the x300 series I ended up going with a T410s instead. Really, I'm not sure why it isn't part of the X series, it's maybe half a pound heavier than my old X60 despite having a much larger screen and keyboard. I wouldn't go back now.

  • hm...

on the bottom left, in the corner- there is Fn buttom (followed by ctrl)- same as with my t61.

is it possible to change it in bios, i.e. configure it so Fn buttom would work as ctrl /and vice versa/? because the current setup is, well, not really good /at least for me/.

  • Is this a fullsize keyboard?

  • wow it looks so ugly. from the 90s?

  • Buy a MacBook Pro

  • man that laptop of yours is a piece of shit it looks like it was made from the 1990 even my laptop is better than that

  • @Gumbyable01 Even you laptop is better than that.... based on the fact this the X220 looks old?

You're a retard. Go spend too much money on a Macbook, douche.

  • no cd/dvd drive?

  • I don´t know what 19+ means, but i know that it is a 6cell slice battery!

  • how does this compare to the lenovo x1?

  • if i remember the spec sheet correctly, the battery slice is 9 cell not 19 cell as you say it is.

if it were 19 cell it would be bigger, heavier, and give you greater then 36 hours of battery life when added to the 6 cell

  • @TGDragon Actually the one we showed in our video is the 19-cell slice. We also have the 9-cell which is smaller.

  • @MobileTechReview ok my mistake. could you send me a link to it? have that kind of battery power would be amazing.

  • @MobileTechReview TGDragon was being polite. The slice is definitely not 19 cell. How can a 19 cell battery weight 1.9 ounces?

If you look at lenovo's site, the slice is called "19+ slice (6 cell)" . The 19 is just a model indication.

Also, the 23 hour claim is with the 9 cell battery (29++) coupled with the 6 cell slice (19+, the only one available for this model). Comes in at a hefty 6 lbs (based on the specs).

  • @MobileTechReview I think that's the 6-cell slice battery rated at 19+.

  • @TGDragon

Just the number of cells won't automatically mean a heavier slice. It depends on the power rating of the slice and the power density of each cell.

  • my 9 cell x220 has never gone past 9 hours even on maximum battery life profile. I switch the brightness down and put the processor to balanced mode

  • Just bought an i7 solid state top of the range X220 for $3000. 8 days later it went back. Touchpad unresponsive and Windows 7 kept locking up. I need the complete package, Replaced with MacAir 13" at $2600. Much better. As light, thinner, faster and more stable. I won't be going back.

  • @Shiplodicus

Could have had the same unfortunate, rare experience with the macbook. Or a car. Or any piece of technology.

  • @NeverLostYou but I didn't. I am not an Apple fan. I chose the Lenovo for speed, size, capability and battery power. Money was not an object. It failed to perform and was replaced by a MacAir which has proven itself to be an outstanding piece of hardware and software. That is all.

  • What's so good about a Thinkpad it looks like a laptop from the 90's

  • @iAppleworldtech

Its not what the laptop looks like, it's what inside the laptop that counts. Apple products are just outdated, overpriced computers covered in a shiny wrapper to make them look good. But the masses of people would rather want the pretty little Imac and Macbooks because they think it will make them look "cool" to carry around an overpriced piece of shit.

  • @crysisdragon I totally agree

  • use of google chromium *sigh*

    3D gaming..."blablabla"...wont show WTF! WTF!

  • @MegaOxmox

    1) That's google chrome not chromium learn the difference

    2) the games shown is in another video just like she said

    3) Intel HD is not made for graphics.

  • You do the best video laptop reviews I've ever seen. A pleasure to watch and very informative -- keep it up!

  • Hey Lisa, how much do you think I can sell my x120e for? E350 with 4th of ram. I want to get the x220

  • 16:9?右边的网卡,也够nc的

  • I have a question which would you recommend to a student who is going into Engineering (Computer Eng). I need long battery but also a powerful computer. Either the X220 or the W520? Both of which have i7 processor and 8GB of ram. The W520 has 500GB hard drive 7200rpm while the X220 has 320GB at 7200rpm. I'll use it for the Engineering stuff as well as some light world of warcraft gaming.

  • What application you using to monitor CPU usage shown on your desktop please?

  • @abbasean It's called All CPU Meter, a downloadable Windows Gadget. Got to your Windows Gadgets download window, you will find it there.

  • @MobileTechReview Thanks!

  • IS there an optical drive on this beast?

  • best reviews ;)

    thanks

  • Hey Lisa, how would you compare the X220 to the MacBook Pro 13"? Not sure on the X220 specs since I wait for deals.

Not really a Windows vs OS person. I'm fine with either

  • I love Thinkpad.....I'm really want to buy a new one but problem is right now. X61 is still working.... Better throw away bcoz can't wait till it broken by itself....

    Nondestructive Notebook

  • Is this computer a good prospect for a CS college student?

  • @MrTheDocta I would say yes. I'm an IT student (still take some of the same programming classes), and I get by on a really cheap, really slow, Asus EEE.

  • Can it work with a 750 GB 7200 rpm HDD? Please let me know...

  • @abhintel Nope. It can only fit 7mm high hard drives and hard drives that size are 9.5mm high.

  • "Its pretty good for, well uh, thinkpad 220" LOL what a comparisson

  • How does this laptop perform for taking notes on powerpoint slides or pdf files? Does the stylus have a quick response time?

    Thanks

  • @YuriOstapovitch I think you are looking for the tablet version, the X220t

  • Do the fans get loud at all?

  • Agree with the "relaxing" valutation. It's a pleasure to watch and listen.

  • Moan Thinkpads! :)

  • very thorough review; made me subscribe to your channel

  • wouldn't it be bad to have the ethernet of the right side since thats where the mouse goes?

  • How thick is it?

  • @MTR, many thanks. Would enjoy seeing your take on the new Edge 220s. In addition to being concise and revealing, your reviews have a unique sincerity about them.

  • Nice!

  • Does the palmrest seem large enough so that the heel of your hand isn't hanging off the edge? Given non-huge hands of course.

  • @GeniusFromGeniusHell Yeah, your hand will tend to hang off the edge.

  • could you do a review of the w520 please?

  • when is this notebook coming out? and what will the price be??

  • @MobileTechReview and @all. I'm looking into getting a T420 or a Toshiba Protege 835 that will come out in the next few weeks. What do you think? Which is the better bang for your buck? I want something really reliable that will last for a long time. I'm using a 5-year-old low-end lenovo and I'm ready to upgrade!

  • @krol0909 I would go with the Thinkpad, hands down.

  • @rmendoza13 Why is that? Just to give the opposite perspective...the portege has a long battery life, a good amount of power, it's sleek and slim, it keeps cool, and it's gotten many great reviews. I'm leaning towards the thinkpad because of its great reputation for durability and quality, but I want to know why you say it wins hands down. Your help would really be appreciated :)

  • @krol0909 I am sorry, I should have explained better. I have owned ThinkPads and one Toshiba. In my experience, the newer Toshibas don't have the same quality they used to. Moreover, ThinkPads are true workhorses. I am typing this on my 3 1/2 year-old X61, which is still more powerful and faster than most consumer laptops being sold today. The ThinkPad keyboard is legendary, you can type all day long, and it won't fail. And there is one key factor: the unbeatable Lenovo warranty.

  • @rmendoza13 Thanks for the advice. Which warranty would you suggest? Why do you think it's so good? I'm pretty sure I'm going to go for a t420 or an old 410 now, but I'll probably wait a bit for the price to go down or the specs to improve. Right now they come with just 2gb of RAM and a comparatively small and slow hard drive.

  • @krol0909 The ThinkPads have a really good warranty. I have a T60 and an X61, and I had a T42 before. Whenever there has been the slightest issue, I have called Lenovo and they have answered within 3 minutes. They never give you the run around, they send you replacement parts right away, send a box, or a person, depending on your warranty. I usually go with the extended 3 year, but you have until the before the end of the first year to buy it.

  • @krol0909 One of the things with ThinkPads is that they know most of their customers are technologically savvy, so they don't make you run silly tests, nor hold you on the phone for hours, to see if you get tired. If anything, they will ask you to run Lenovo Toolbox, which is a diagnostics program. Like I said, if you find anything wrong, they will do their best to fix it or replace it. That said, they don't break down that often.

  • @rmendoza13 Thanks for all the advice!

  • I was thinking of replacing my X61, and what's frustrating is that Lenovo sent the x220 out to be reviewed, but as of 04/04/2011 it's still not available for purchase.

  • Is it normal to see those waves in that screen?

  • @xAcerxAspirex That's because the screen is being recorded on video. It should look normal in real life.

  • <3 Levono ^_^

  • Great review - I couldn't agree more with BreakingShambhala.

  • why does it need a express card slot it only takes up space in it

  • the real review for thinkpad = torture

  • very good review. excellent presentation. very informative. thank you!

  • Very good review. good quality

  • Lisa,

Thanks for another great video. Here are things I like about your reviews:

    1. You have a calm voice.

    2. You know what you are talking about. This cannot be overstated.

    3. Your reviews are to the point. No stories about what your cat ate last night etc.

    4. Your reviews are thorough and professional.

    I am a huge fan!

  • @cheema33 Agreed. She's one of the best tech reviewers on YT.

  • Is the hard drive 2.5 or 1.8"?

  • @pmenadue

    2.5

  • would this be good for a high school student? i'm thinking of transitioning from my 2008 macbook to one of these dandy thinkpads.

  • @lolctusachina i want one for uni next year - my current asus is still the beast it was when i got it. Performing flawlessly except the hinge has broken and now its just a portable desktop.

  • oh wow, it looks convincing.

I have been looking at something to replace my aging x300. I am very satisfied with Thinkpad and glad that I dump the useless MBP.

  • I have a Macbook Air, would this be a good pc for gaming and video editing?

  • Hot piece of lenovo's ebony thunder edition RAAAAAAH!!!!!!

  • How much would it cost approximately please?

  • can you comment on the headphone jack noise? i'm a heavy music listener and this could make or break the deal for me. oh and thanks for the informative review :)

  • @Kendalloo You'd be better off buying an external DAC that connects to the system via USB. My experience is that when listening to music on in-ear monitors, there is a lot of noise. I would recommend getting either the NuForce uDAC2 or the FiiO E7. Either of them will set you back over $100.00 US but are well worth it for the money. I'd also recommend that you check out the computer audio forums at head-fi.org for more opinions.

  • @PSPXMAN Hmmm.. I had no idea this was an option, thanks man i'm going to look into it.

  • @Kendalloo Your welcome and as they say over on the Head-Fi forums, "Sorry about your wallet.".

  • @Kendalloo We haven't noticed any problem on this model.

  • @Kendalloo

If you're a heavy music listener you need a centrance dacport.

  • Great review. Liked the real time Photoshop testing.

I think for its price, lenovo is the BEST option for business

I have an X301 about 12 months old. Its in one word: GREAT.

One year out its still super quiet and fast, and I use it all the time.

The battery life is the only thing i would say needs to be improved, and it looks like they did that in the X220.

  • Very nice review. Are you going to to do a the X220 tablet review?? I am really considering to buy it and I can't find info nowhere :(

  • Please note how she moves the mouse pointer! I will never understand how one can prefer a touchpad if there is trackpoint. I admire the patience of touchpad fans.

  • I really wish the trackpad was an option. Really don't need it :)

Not sure I'm sold on the new style keyboard either.

  • you should provide more details about SSDs? Are they "slow" old or the fast new gen.

  • When will this be released?

Also Lisa, do you have any information on the release date of the newer Thinkpads with the 2nd gen sandy bridge like the T and L-series?

I hope to see reviews of those laptops soon from you!

  • what I care most is it's fan noise

will fan noise still be acceptable even if it is running many large applications?

  • wow good review...nice and calm, no swearing, no music in the background...

  • @BreakingShambhala I couldn't agree more. There something definitely therapeutic about listening to Lisa's reviews.

  • The X220 seems to be a pretty good machine, but I am still glad I upgraded the warranty of my X201 last your with a 5 year package. The 16:9 display has nothing to do in a true business machine. We arent watching movies, we are working with Office. srsly

  • @KlausAltmannBarbie Blame the display manufacturers. 16:9 is cheaper to make so computer companies are forced to use it. I'm hanging onto my x201 with a vice grip!

  • Outstanding review.

  • Outstanding review.

  • Would have liked to see a review of the SSD version.

    Good review., nevertheless. Thank you.

  • @MrRyanian lol

  • Is the keyboard the same size as those on (older) models with larger screens, like a T60P? I'm thinking of getting this instead of the upcoming T420s if its keyboard is truly full size.

  • @thejeremycg

The keyboard is the same size as the old T60. In deed, the X200/X201 series had a full size keyboard also.

  • I still don't understand, why does it make a difference if a laptop weighs 2 lbs or 10??.... Most people these days don't have a problem picking up a triple cheeseburger and a 40oz Dr.peppier.

  • @morloff I agree that we should focus on slimming down our people rather than only our technology.

  • <3 lisa

  • No HDMI port? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

  • @wutefuk Just get a Display Port to HDMI adapter, theyre basically the same tech and they only cost about 5 dlls.

  • @wutefuk

Because HDMI is proprietary and lenovo has to spend 5 USD (or more) for every laptop they equip with a HDMI Port. The Displayport offers the same functions and its free.

  • This is a dream machine. I hope you keep it.

Is the 9-cell battery working with the travel batter, too?

And agreee with others...you reviews are simply easy, calm and that's why they are perfect.

  • Great review and great laptop! Thank you

  • People always complain about the aesthetics of the Thinkpads but I rather like the look. It immediately says "business" and doesn't look bad doing it. They haven't changed much over the years the line has existed because they haven't had to. Love your reviews by th way.

  • @Nogard119 I completely agree. It's quite loathsome that people still rag Thinkpads for their looks, but to me(even though it's subjective) they're beautiful. Hopefully Lenovo doesn't change the classic Thinkpad look.

    Great review by the way.

  • I miss last week when her reviews were 20 minutes long.

  • 23 hours!?!??!?!?

  • >IPS Thinkpad

    HHHNNNGGGGGG

  • Nice review. However, since this is an pro laptop so would it be interesting how it performs in bright light condition, colours of the screen and the viewing angles. And comparison perhaps to other pro laptops like HP Elitebook. ;)

  • Another great review....

  • it looks like those old win 98 laptops

  • @psp785 Well thinkpads DID exist back then as well

  • Sorry, great review, I meant to say, how great your hand always look, some reviewer hand look terrible and dirty,if you going do close up in hd,clean your nails first!,

  • I love you mild manner, and I mention before, you have model like and, and your nail are always gone, I might add. Great job

  • Toshiba is now Lenovo?

  • This is what a Pro laptop is about.

  • How noisy?

  • Can I just say that, not only are your reviews always well thought out and nicely produced, that you have a very calm way of speaking. Some other reviewers always seem overly excited (while that certainly has it's place) I always find it easier to make a choice after watching one of your videos. Keep up the great work :)
