dude that Turkey is burnt your oil isnt suppose to be black when your done you had the temp too high and you over cooked it by atleast 10 mins Epic Fail....
I have never done this before, but I have watched tons of videos on it.
The only thing people might make a comment about is that you were set up on a wood deck...that you were very close to the house...and I think I see cardboard on the floor too.
Other than that...the bird looks ...oh so yummy........the actual cooking seems to have went text book and the color was right on the mark.
Wrong. If you ever have a chance to taste fried turkey, you'd say mmm, damn or somthing in a positive aspect toward the meat. If you ever hear of someone doing it, I hope my post will convince you to try. I don't know you, & that's not important. I won't lie, fried turkey is excellent!
@timdcor i used clear frying oil. Tell u the truth, only difference between clear and pentut oil is that penut oil has a higher smoke point by like 20 degrees
Wow, lets empty the remainder oil from the bird back into a hot stove two words, flash fire. Even with the heat turned off you have a heat difference. The oil at the top has a lower temp than the oil at the bottom of the pot (where the flame was). By emptying that lower temp oil from the bird back into the pot, or even spilling on the exterior of the pot, you run the risk of starting a flash fire.
@danpirate I thought that was scary too...... returning that cool oil into the hot oil. God forbid if he accidentally dropped the bird. I think you meant to say that the oil temp is "higher" at the top than the bottom of the pot ;) (That's why the flash fire risk would exist)
nothing like scorched oil and a over cooked bird- turn the heat down to 245 and cook it for just a little longer= wont scorch the oil or burn the bird
245 degrees is not correct, at 245 whatever your trying to fry, actually absorbs the oil into it rather than pushing the moisture out of it. 250 degrees is considered cool mode in professional grade fryers. It is not acceptable to cook in. 350-360 is the correct temp to fry in.
That's not how you deep fry a turkey that's how you burn your house down. On a piece of fresh plywood over a wood deck near the house? You fuckin serious? I hope you have a dry chemical extinguisher nearby.
@skodas an old post ....but yes we can get in the UK. The stove is known as a "boiler ring" which many roofers use for boiling tar for felt roofing. You use a high pressure regulator on your Calor Gas bottle (I've used Propane & Butane types - propane won't freeze & can run a little hotter). Then you need a 6 Gallon Aluminium or Stainless steel pot. I think it's likely about Health & Safety which is why they are not available in UK.
what's strange until now the turks don't have in their constitution a law prohibiting and make it a crime thanksgiving as turkey sliced by americans on thanksgiving
Dude, you burned it... try again next year. Cook the bird at a lower oil temp to cook the meat and not the skin. 300-325 depending on size. AND I have to ask are you crazy! You did this so close to your house, on wood and let people within the holly 10' line. Do NOT use propane if you dont have a level 10' safe zone. And never leave the bird... right! Check out my vid
the reason the bird burned was becouse they didnt tie the wings and legs. And they were touching the walls of the pan where direct heat came from. The sides are always hotter the the oil itself.
@opp861@opp861 perhaps you'd like your turkey to go off like a space shuttle, but when you title a video 'how to deep fry a turkey', and your advice is wrong, causing potential other space shuttle launches on a wooden deck, its not very responsible. If you think propane safety is only for cartoon characters, then I feel sorry for you.
Do a youtube search for - turkey fryer fireball and then ask yourself if you think that is good for people to have on their decks.
@bdrowe See their you go taking it as a diss but this comment im sorry sounds even more so like hank hill but you are not wrong i saw a safety video on deep frying turkeys and what can go wrong and yest your right you dont do it on wood its not safe but then again i dont use propane i use charcoal (please say something about the charcoal)
Actually, it was cooked perfectly, the instructions we read said 2-3 minutes a pound, and it was 12.5 or 13 pounder, so we went for 45 minutes to be safe. Some of the skin was almost burnt, but not quite (and still quite edible), but the meat was perfect actually.
The way you guys do things is so retarded, damn retards

i just bought a deepfryer right before thanksgiving, and mine came with a basket, it seems a lot easier than what he is using to lower the turkey

yankeefan2k7 3 years ago
Correct, it wasn't burnt at all. It was perfect. That's the way the oil cooks the skin.

@bdrowe That is very obvious. The grease got way too hot....Probably smelt like a wet mule. The grease is ruined and so is that turkey.
