  • Something is going on here. The length of time that scientists have offered for human evolution is insufficient to account for this music. Bach proves that we are a unique creation. Something of a godly potential is in us.

  • I love the way he pass the pages…so elegant!

And the interpretation is perfect. Just Richter!

  • Karl Richter kicks Glenn Gould's ass any day. This is what a Bach interpreter is and not someone whom just lets his fingers fly across the keyboard and tries to make J.S. Bach sound liked he had live and wrote his music in the 19th Century.

  • The first keyboard solo ever!

  • my favourite piece of bach

  • The world is magical, but does the magic exists by itself or was it created by us?

  • Simply Brilliant

  • 6:39 - 9:18. FACE = MELTED.

  • @framed0000 my face melted too.

  • the first, and in my opinion finest, harpsichord solo ever was written in this piece, by Bach for Bach to play, as harpsichord was his favorite instrument.

  • why is the upper keyboard moving when he's not touching it?

  • @jfichter69 this is the invisible spirit of jsb ;)

  • @jfichter69 couplers on the harpsichord (like on the organ) allow the player to add stops from another manual.

  • Hi!

  • :DDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • Almost as good as Justin Bieber.

  • @OminousHaze It's heavenly.

  • the mann playing the harp kinda looks like berbatov

  • The way you anticipate the ritornello allows me to understand why bach was a genious.

  • i didnt know morrissey played violin

  • Truly magnificent.

  • This piece has such incredible power. It's my absolute favorite by Bach. I first heard it in a college course, and I've been unable to stop listening ever since.

  • Does anyone know where I can get this exact recording of the Brandenburg No. 5? There are others of Richter performing this piece, but the quality of the recording, and the wonderful timbre of the harpsichord make me want this specific one. :)

  • I'm going to hear this piece at the Seattle Symphony next week. So psyched!

  • meraviglioso...nient'altro...

  • This. Is. Beautiful.

  • Whaaaat?

    Wow.

  • This is just so magic sounding. This is the only recording of this piece I will listen to, because all others seem to lack the magic this has

  • the drop at 9:18

  • Harpsichord cadenza!!! FTW!!!!!!!

  • I was speechless for the last 3 minutes of the vid...

  • pretty glorious !!!!!!!

  • Is he playing the piano and conducting!? ="D

  • @Adriennnnnnne He's playing a harpsichord, and yes, he's conducting. It was done this way in the 18th century too.

  • @lichtbroeder Harpsichord. I realized this mistake after I pressed post.

Thanks for the info, I didn't know it was a common thing to conduct and play. :o

  • it's really hard to get your timing right on this piece because of the rests

  • Fantastic Paul Meisen, Richter and Otto Buchner.

  • I love the flute part in this

  • No. Wait. It should have been auralgasm. thats better.

  • Dear. god. Musicgasm.

  • Omigosh! I just came across this video! The keyboard player as conductor seemed to let the pace of the music increase, and it made me wonder how well he would keep up in his solo -- Fantastic! The whole piece was beautifully played. This is one of my favorite

  • My favorite of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos. Second favorite coming up :)

  • as my music theory teacher said, "There's Bach........ then there's everything else"

  • When it comes to the music of JS Bach, first there was Karl Richter....then everyone else.

  • @301250

    What about Gould for instance?

  • @outsidemendham ...ok, Gould made Bach's keyboard works the cornerstone of his repertoire..the Goldberg Variations, Partitas etc. (not to mention his voice also that can sometimes be heard quite audibly in the recordings..ha ha ha. but that's another story). Yes, Gould was a virtuoso, albeit an eccentric character (once got a telling off from the no-nonsense conductor Szell when he was fiddling with his piano stool) and brought out the "voices" in Bach's contraputal music like no other pianist.

  • El mejor solo de la historia!

  • I thank the great manitou, the great kaleef, the great moofti, the terrible yeti, the awesome yak, ... on my bare knees ... no recorder ... ! !

  • Wonderful musicians, of course, but it is hard to listen to this style of playing. and on those instruments (especially that harpsichord).

  • Richter's virtuosity on the harpsichord is astounding.

  • from 3:15~ take my breath away

  • with all respect and everything... Bach's music is soooo orgasmic

  • This may be stylistically dated e.g. the large stretto sequence around three minutes in - very little light or shade between the concertino players. Despite this I must say what a tremendous harpsichord performance (as well as flute and violin) - and a beautiful harpsichord to boot - massive amounts of colour ring out in the cadenza and the player is just beyond reproach... thanks for the upload!

  • just wonderful...

  • who's the most important player, and by that i mean, the flutist?

  • @footmuz the group of soloists are all important. the flute, violin and cello. this is a special instrumentation called concerto grosso. for more info, wiki :D

  • @footmuz

Paul Meisen. It says so in the description.

  • I love this piece and the interpretation here. The harpsichord part is so exciting to hear and to play as well.

  • The only place where God truly exists is Bach's music.

  • Old School interpretation.... very nice all the same...

  • This is the musical work that I like the most of the great J. S. Bach.

  • Bach was the first "keyboardist" ever... inspiring bands like Emerson Lake & Palmer and Deep Purple to play the quick-fingered instrument. I am amazed at the amount of skill it takes to play the harpsichord at this level. It must take a HUUUUUUUUUUUGE amount of practice. My GOD.

  • Genial

  • I like your user name! =)

  • The harpsichordist shows such jubilance at the end, bravo!

  • @yellosello this isn't plain harpsichordist, this is master Karl Richter himself

  • This is Music!!!!

  • This is so brilliant- and thrllnly funn at the same time, check out 5.17- the harpsichord is so funny

  • bach was a fucking machine!! This shit is fucking amazing!!!

  • @ectomy1235 how poetically put. what beautiful language....................ah yes you would have made Johann proud.

  • @ectomy1235

    Language...

This is Bach, for pity's sake. Show some respect!

  • Brilliant!!

  • best version ever

  • Hello from the United States! Thank you for uploading this fantastic piece of music! I just love this version!

  • Wicked!

  • i wonder what year this was recorded

  • @matchbox555

According to the description on the DVD, April 1-10 1970.

  • That harpsichord solo is pure rock star!

  • sound quality on this is awesome

  • 6:34 on is fucking phenomenal

  • That Otto Büchner ain't half bad...

  • How odd that modern instrument performances of Baroque music use a harpsichord instead of a piano, as though they're afraid the performance would be historically uninformed without a harpsichord. Never mind the metal flute or the violins strung with metal and played with concave bows. LOL

  • @wcbroccoli You do realize that pianos and harpsichords are different instruments, not just the same instrument made with different materials / techniques? LOL

  • @wcbroccoli it is a completely different sound than a piano.

  • Best converto! Just look at that harpsichord action!

  • one of my favorites

  • Bach's music is inspirational

  • absolutely wonderful

  • from 3 : 08 to 4 : 23 is happening the Magic

  • @ismDUKAGJIN Agreed..my favourite part of all of the Brandenburgs, the interplay is wonderful. The harpsichord is slightly to dominant on this recording for my ears (and the tempo a little too fast), but an otherwise great recording.

  • @drakecovers I actually find the tempo is on the slow side, making the piece sound plaintive instead of lively and light-hearted.

  • I love love love his continuo! It's like Chaikovsky or something.

  • That harpsichord player really needs to chill out. lol

  • @Strongsad38001 Haha, maybe, but I like his energy.

  • I love Karil Richter!

  • What a beautiful tune

  • Is that a baroque style flute? Or just a flute?

  • @bobmusick just a flute :)

  • @trabalhosmanuais thank you lol. idk i thought it just had a cool unique sound.

  • Simply listening to this concert makes me happy :) Bach is the best!!!

  • maybe the best interpretation of this masterwork :o

  • This is amazing! No conductor. Is Karl Richer supposed to be the conductor? They handle it very well without conductor, It is not easy for playing Baroque without conductor!

  • @jacarandaxia Yes, Karil Richter is the conductor and the harpsichord player :)

  • un bach de très haute facture !

  • wtf that was the single most sickest shit ive ever heard, wow that was phenomenal

  • Onore e gloria eterna al grandissimo Carl.

    Splendida esecuzione, magistrale, eccelsa,ineguagliabile.

  • wow the sound of that harpsichord is so rich! amazing performance :)

  • we've come so far in 30 years. it's very gratifying to see, er, hear.

  • Gorgeous!

    Thank you for sharing.

  • i realy enjoy watching Cesar Anaro playing the piano

  • Amazing. I am trying to learn the harpsichord part and this has given me some much needed inspiration!

  • @whomakemefeel Actually you dont know what you are talking about

  • @whomakemefeel

Actually, during the Baroque period pieces in "Concerto Grosso" became famous.

Concerto Grosso is a form of music in which the musical material is passed between a small group of soloists (the concertino) and full orchestra (the ripieno).

'Concerto grosso' and the term 'concerto' beyond the classical era is being used slightly different.

  • I just LOVE this concerto !
