The name of thee man who fired the shot is known to many in Cork. There was no deliberate intention to shoot Collins. It was a 'lucky' shot. The shot could as easily have missed him.

Weird, i watched this film & i hated De Valera. Then i talked to my grandmother who married a Dev supporter & she certainly believed De Valera had played the cards of the country correctly even if it left MC on the loosing side. She said De Valera wasn't 'guilty', MC was killed in the civil war. She felt the war was a necessary evil to give birth to a new country that was independent. I think it's hard to judge anyone because we are basing some of our opinions on Liam Neeson in a film. :)

Collins actually died chasing after the ambushers, he got picked off because he ran in front of his men and one of the RA's saw his big sillouhette against the sky and fired one shot and dropped him, thats how he really died, fighting like he always did. The movie really didnt give his brave and foolish death the glory it deserved.

Collins was behind the rest of the convoy, not in front of it. And he was down in a valley, the IRA were above him, so he wasnt sillouhetted against the sky. He was just a hazy figure in the fading light and mist.

That's just not true. For one, after partition (and obviously before it) Collins was arming the IRA in the north while trying to stabilize the south (because if there was anarchy the Brits were only going to try and take control again). The notion that Collins turned his back on or betrayed the 6 counties is so unfair it's heartbreaking. He fought and died for an Ireland united and free. Few shared the passion he had and the dedication.

That wasn't the way it happened at all in reality. There was an ambush but the IRA had given up waiting and were just leaving when Collind arrived.
A couple of guys stayed back and that's when he was shot.

There are very little inacuracies to this part of film. This is true. He was indeed planning to marry kitty after he returned from negotiating with De Valera. This is not over dramatized. He was ambushed by the roadside and shot by one of his own men.

During WWII the British made an offer, the six northern countries for use of three Irish ports for refuelling of ships,not re-supply ,just refuelling. De Valera considered it for a total of 4hours before replying no to Churchill, that was the opportunity to re-unite our island, I can understand if you want to call Dev a traitor, but how so can you call Collins this , no smart ass remarks would be greatly appreciated.

No one for certain knows what angle he was struck from, but given the fact there was evidence for an entry wound in the left forehead hairline and an exit wound behind the right ear means that he was in all likelyhood shot by someone on a far higher elevation than himself (ie someone shooting down from a hill)
