1983 .Yes this is one of my best concert experience ever.. , i saw him in sthlm a day or two before he went to helsinki... . i do have the whole video from this concert .. the crowd is going nuts and the finnish police stops the show. ( Frank . shouts: THE MAN WANTS TO STOP THE SHOW ) . incredible musicians and performans of a great band .. Frank is A Genius !
frank marino is the beat example i can think of of something being TOO GOOD to be apreciated by the mainstream.it's a phenomena thats true of everthing else ,not just music. thats why everthing seems so shity to me
This was the Juggernaut tour. I saw it at the Kabuki Theater in San Francisco. I was working for Bill Graham Presents in those years so I got to see the sound check too. The man is the most underrated master of the fretboard. I love the subtle way he breaks into "Strange Dreams" here.
@christineglamazon Great story. If I remember correctly, he only played 2 bay area venues to support Juggernaut in 1983- The Kabuki and Sherwood Hall (in Salinas).
@rayjr62 It was at the Kabuki. I was an usher for BGP for that show. So after I'd help seat the auditorium I got to see the show for free. The best part of that job was, I got to be there for the sound check. I still get goose bumps!
@ChristineOutspoken i was there too amazing stuff he tore that place apart .. as a union stagehand in oakland for many years frank still was the best live guitar player i ever seen hands down!!
One of the most overlooked guitar players of ALL TIME. Ask Zakk Wilde and it's likely that he would also say the same thing. Check out "Poppy" as this is one of the best "Anthems" of all time.
i was at Port Vale in 81 too What a gig in all the Sunshine! Ozzy with Randy Riot Triumph and Motorhead too Yes he's one of the gifted guitarists Should have had more acclaim AND FRANK IF YOU READ THESE GET OVER THE UK SOON !!! ;)
69Toad96, yeah man, the heavy metal holocaust gig, (my t-shirt lasted 3 years) didn't Motorhead have the "Bomber" light show that night ? i remember waiting at Stoke train station all night listening to "no sleep til Hammersmith" on a rasta blaster, i seem to remember Frank opening his set with Roadhouse Blues, all those bands for about 12 quid, geez what a day !!
dobbylad-didnt some RAF parachute team 'drop' in and mess up too and i seem to remember the local hospital complaining about the music being played too loud too late and lemmy commemting!! i still got the Program but never got the Tshirt!
yeah i remember that, i bet the people of Stoke thought they where being invaded when the parachutist landed in their gardens, i spent the first few hours by the half way line dodgibg bottles of piss being hurled around, then when Ozzie came on the tide of people surging forward carried me to within 20 yards of the stage, Ozzie slagged Sabbath off for pulling out of that gig i seem to remember, did Riot play there that day ?
yes riot played there too 1st band on as i rem. Guy Speranza, what a vocalist Sadly missed now i believe. Stayed out the way of all the bottles that day ;) 1st time i'd seen Randy Rhoads that day. Couldnt believe the sound he was gettin. Rem catching a late train back to Brum. Yes what a day They dont have them like that anymore. What a pity.
the following year i went to Mildenhall speedway track to a gig on that bill there was, Angelwitch, Magnum,Sampson, Bernie Marsdens s.o.s. and Saxon headlined (Hawkwind pulled out) there was loads of Yanks from a nearby air base almost all of them wore dungerees they looked odd, it was the wheel of steel light show, pretty poor though, just a white light eagle, but the bands were fantastic, i slept on a bench in Cambridge that night Brrr !
I've had this cd in my car for 2 weeks listening just about every other day. I've had it since it's inception whether on vinyl, tape,cd & played once in a great while, this time I couldn't stop listening to it.I always thought the drumming was easy until I R e a l l y listened.Excellent album!
I Love Ditch Queen.I saw them in 78 it opened my world of music a little more that day.
Thanx for the post! This is a real treat, as I would have loved to see this tour. I remember really getting into his music in 1982 when a classmate loaned me an album. However, I finally got to see him over the last three years. I even met him and the band- freakin' great guys!! Can't wait to see them again later this year. They totally kick ass!!
I was there too, and I also have the VHS. Great concert. Luckily Finnish authorities aren't like that anymore
