@CoastStarlight11 Thanks! I always stop at Colfax because it has a cool Starbux cafe and it's right next to the mainline. I've seen mostly Amtrak #6 pass through here but this was my first time seeing a freight!
@hoorider13 Nice!!! If number 5 is on time it is suppose to stop in Colfax around 11:48AM, that also happens to be the exact same time that the southbound Coast Starlight is suppose to stop in Salinas, California if it is on time.
@CoastStarlight11 I know a lot of people criticize President Obama for a lot of his policies, but railfans should be grateful he is a big backer of the railroads. Since he's from Chicago, he wants to see Amtrak grow and be a good alternative to driving or flying. I've taken the Zephyr twice and both times it arrived on time. It's going to take a lot of money to upgrade the rail network but UP is going to spend all summer upgrading the FRC and Donner Pass!
@hoorider13 Amtrak started running on time and ahead of schedual once they got on to the case of UP. In year 2004 when I road the Zephyr round trip between Reno and Chicago we ended up getting about 4 hours late and then in year 2007 when I again road round trip between Reno and Chicago we were hitting nearly ever station on time or ahead of schedual. We got into Elko, Nevada like 20 minutes early.
@CoastStarlight11 When I road the private cars on the Starlight from SLO to LA we were 45 minutes early into Santa Barbara and 30 minutes early into LA.
@CoastStarlight11 So far I have not heard any more updates on that suposid track work between Feather River Canyon & Winnemucca as well as Donner Pass and Winnemucca replacing the Searchlights.
@hoorider13 If I got a job that had paid vations and the whole works with benefits and all once A year I would probably take a mega Amtrak trip like circling the country or something, or a mega railfan trip. The furthest I have ridden the Coast Starlight is San Luis Obispo to Los Angeles and the furthest I have ridden the Zephyr is round trip between Reno and Chicago.
O my gawd, this shot is insane!!!!!!!!!!! 5 stars and a thumbs up!!!!
I have been to this Colfax Amtrak platform tons of times over the years, its a cool spot for shots.
