pilot deserved to die for not shooting Bond when he had a chance, why would he jump out from the plane anyway???and leave bond?? DUH?!?! keep the frigging plane..shoot Bond..dump his body and call it a day.....cant find a good hench men back in those days..
ermm now i dont want to be the one to put a spanner in the wrks ......but erm where exactly did the shuttle get its fuel from on take off?? If anyone knows about the space shuttle and even later in the film you see the shuttles take off with 3 SRB's!! erm can someone explain this to me........??
@MovieMad007 The first few shuttle test flights in 1977 had the shuttle launching from the top of a plane, so that part is quite realistic. In reality, though, the shuttle was simply released from its casing and glided away, rather than actually launching itself the way they portray it in 'Moonraker'. As the first actual shuttle launch wasn't until 1982, however, the cast majority of the public watching the film wouldn't know anything about the way the shuttle actually worked.
@MovieMad007 The shuttle hadn't flown at this point. The producers wanted the film to be shown before the first launch. They'd obviously hadn't done their research thoroughly.
Look at 2:59, through the door you can see Jaws (at least his left leg) sitting the the seat of the co-pilot. That means he'd been in there and waited for the right moment.
@ryanjfitz By making over 80 jumps. Special flat parachutes were hidden under clothing that could be quickly ripped away from velcro fastenings. The cameraman had an ultra-lightweight camera mounted on his head.
People who say Moonraker is the worst Bond deserve a punch in the face. This sequence amazes me every time I see it.
@back2frinky The opening stunts had to be one of the most amazing in the history of the Bond films, outlandish yes but definitely thrilling as a sequence should be in a James Bond film. In those days they made films to entertain and that was the ultimate goal for the Bond films, to give action films you would love to see.
@Iffy350 I wondered the same thing, but you can see her putting on a parachute while Bond is wrestling with the bespectacled guy on the plane. Exactly how Jaws hid himself on the plane is another matter altogether . . .

@J4K31 definitely, one has to wonder if they were running out of ideas. That aside, IMO this is the best pre-credits scene

Moonraker is ridiculous but knows it's ridiculous. That's why it's fun.
And Live and Let Die is easily the worst Bond ever.

@fagbert I actually quite enjoy Live and Let Die.
