Truly awesome! I was 19 when this song came out and it's always been one of my favorites. I read one time that Meatloaf is only one of a handful of people alive today that can sing in all eight octaves.. This is true talent. I pity the kids of today that missed one of the greatests eras of music in history.
If i listen to music like this, i feel something inside. I feel real emotion, real fun, real happiness. You know why? Because this kind of music has all those things that i feel. I only have it when i listen tho real music. I honestly never feel it with music of these days. Because all the emotion that the singers had back in those days are gone. Don`t know why, but its just all gone...
There comes a moment, a span of time, no matter how brief, where a human is able to reach a level of unquestionable perfection equal only to the thunder of the Gods. Such is this magical breath of life captured in the performance of these two beautiful people. Immortal, timeless, and priceless is this soaring example of the human heart and its passion for life.
At that point in his earlier (and heftier) days, Meatloaf looked like a cross between Jack Black and Chris Farley. As he got older (and lost weight), he began more to resemble Tom Arnold. Just an observation.
Trivia for the day: Did anyone know that the female vocal part on Meatloaf's "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" was actually sung by Ellen Foley and lip-synched by others in the videos. Ellen played Billie Young as the public defender on Night Court for one season, and was the love interest of Judge Harry until she was later replaced by Markie Post. Ellen was one great rock/pop singer as well as an actor (and not bad at all to look at either).
The ironic thing about this video is that Karla DeVito (Mrs. Robbie Benson) is in it, but the person singing is actually Ellen Foley, who did it on the record. The audio is the track from the album, and not the "live" version, in which DeVito would have been heard, instead of Foley. DeVito is lip syncing to Foley on this.
@ShadowfaxDave I really didn't see your post before I entered mine. But I wrote almost the same thing about Ellen Foley today, spurred on by some talk on my FB page about the TV show Night Court. I had a crush on Ellen back then. She was one good-looking girl and a great singer.
@ShadowfaxDave It's a promotional video. Needs to sound like the album, needs to sound identical to the album. If Ellen Foley and Meat sang this live on stage, it wouldn't sound identical to the album, because the album recording is a particular mix of the various tracks recorded in the studio. "Paradise" almost didn't make the BOOH album because everyone's individual -- and even the collaborative-- mixes were terrible. Finally, John Jansen mixed this masterpiece by himself.
@kikomiko1 so your stereotyping what serial killers look like? Anyone can be a serial killer im pretty sure there isn't a certain look for them. Btw that "Guy that looks like a fucking serial killer" probably got more pussy than you will ever get in your life.
I started to sing this song in class and my friends asked me what i was sing so I told them the band name was meatloaf, They started laughing and asking me what kinda shitty name was that, so I asked them what kinda music they listened to they all said Drake, and i burst out laughing (:
@MrJmoak3 It is the studio version. Karla DeVito and Meat are lip syncing to album vocals sung by Ellen Foley and Meat. Promo video recorded just before beginning of the original BOOH Tour. Karla sang live on the tour. Catch her performance on Old Grey Whistle Test posted by Kozmik1000. (One of the videos at the right on my view.)
@Cynbad63 As much as I agree...I disagree....but I do think Jack Black is getting older, maybe he'll be able to do it one day as a serious roll. TenD&Pick,Meatloaf was his dad in that :p
@tonesv77 This promotional video was recorded just before the Original BOOH Tour began. Karla and Meat are lip syncing to album vocals sung by Ellen Foley and Meat. Three other promo videos were recorded the same afternoon. Would be nice to know how many promo videos are not lip sync. My bet is almost zero. The promo needs to sound like the album. Karla sang live on the tour. Videos of Karla and Meat performing live are better than this. Check out kozmik1000 video at right.
Zooming down back roads at night in someones mom's, borrowed car, with this blasting out of the radio and all of us singing at the top of our lungs... Ah, those were the days!
Epic!! This is the track which skips on my Bat Out Of Hell CD and also the live version on another CD. Can't believe they were originally going to release a version of this being over 20mins long... something Meatloaf does best.
They should have used protection. Then he wouldn't have to be praying for the end of time to hurry up and arrive. Besides, any guy who needs to "sleep on it" when 1970s era Ellen Foley is staring at you going, "I gotta know right now, what's it going to be boy, yes or no?" I'm sitting there like, "ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm yeah."
I think you should see this first, then just listen to the song by it's self. The thing I love is, okay first let's be frank, Meatloaf ain't no adonis. But he sure as hell makes up for with a passion and Great body language, my favorite part is when Ellen stop the "Climax" so to speak and start's telling meat loaf to promis she loves her, you can see what meat loaf as the character in the song is thinking "Ohhh Crap I didn't see this coming! Oh shit shes still staring at me, think damm it!"
@Lazysupermutant That's very funny, and a very good point. When Meat opens his mouth and sings "Lemme sleep on it..." she leans away and mouths "Lemme sleep on it..." as if to say, "Shit! He wants to SLEEP on it??"
@hurmpfff Karla DeVito and Meat Loaf are lip syncing here to the album vocals sung by Ellen Foley and Meat. It's a promotional video. Promo videos are lip sync 99.999999% of the time. (Video needs to sound like the album.) Videos of Karla and Meat singing live on the original BOOH tour are better than this. Check out Old Grey Whistle Test and Rockpalast performances in 1978.
@bt51 of course it's Ellen foley singing "It should have made her a superstar, but another woman replaced her in the video, lip-synching to her voice; Foley refused to tour with Mr. Loaf: “Who wants to deal with that?”"
@croft84 meatloaf is jack black's father. They lived in a little town called kickapoo before dio told jack black to go to hollywood to form a rock band.
