As I know , why she sung in Japan first was because she was rejected many times in auditions in Korean because of physical issue. As we know, 'idols' are more popular in auditions in Korea, which is why physical appearance counts quite much.

Quite the apparent, for the music industry in Japan, physical appearance doesn't count that much, or at least real music is still more popular than more visual idol-PV-ed musics.

Younha actually auditioned for korean companies but she got rejected but she tried out for a japanese company and they accepted her right away. there she debuted in japan and came to korea to release a song. same with vise versa, u see korean stars going to japan to release albums that started in korea first such as DBSK, Boa, etc. But really Younha is an amazing singer, i believe she tried out for JYP and they rejected her. it was their loss. Younha is such a great singer <3
