Having bowled tenpins, duckpins and candlepins, the last is without a doubt more difficult. You'd be very surprised how hard it is to control the ball. My normal ball speed with 10 pin is 16 mph and I'll tell you what......it's 25+ throwing candelpins.

Candelpins will show you how accurate you are. Leave a single pin with no wood.....there is no room. You make it or miss it....plain and simple.

I really think it's a must do for anyone loving the sport of bowling.

i bowl with a guy who throws a 16lbs 30 mph.... he threw at a 10 pin, missed, and it hit of the back wall and came back to knock the 10 pin down...

awesome comment garyl99...i love all types of bowling,but being from eastern canada,i have mainly bowled candlepin..it is hard,no doubt,but you catch on quik..ive seen slow bowlers throw high games and hard throwers have low games..its all in your spin and accuracy,but in this game,a little heat dont hurt..

A 500 triple in Candlepin is about as hard as an 835 or higher series in Tenpin. It is a very fun and frustrating game and pins do not normally fall as easy as they did for Paul Berger that day. You might say that was his 15 minutes of fame we are all supposed to getin this life time. In that case it was an hour.

That tells you how hard a 500 series in Candlepin is, compared to about an 835 in Tenpin, as tenpin has become a phony game with its easy oil patterns now called Adult bumper bowling, just bounce the ball off the wall of oil in the middle of the lane and STRIKE!!! So if you are still working on 690 in tenpin that tells you how hard it is to get a 500 in Candlepins for 3 games.

Yeah I totally agree about the ten pin patterns. I've been fighting hard for a PBA sport pattern league for the youth. That never went through, luckily this is my last year as a junior. I would love to try out candlepin, are all the lanes in new england area?

i think there are a couple in canada, but most are in massachusetts and north. you won't find any at all in connecticut from what i understand.

Candle pin bowling looks much easier to take up then regular bowling. I bowl in ten pin bowling in real life and i avreage 190.

I grew up on candlepin (Allston Bowl) and it's great for kids but the first time I bowled tenpin I actually got some strikes and I never went back.

A few years ago I tried it again, it took me 4 or 5 strings to get one strike. It's a tough game and can be very frustrating if you're used to scoring that high in tenpin.

It is fun, you should give it a try if you ever get a chance.

im from america too.....believe it or not duckpin and such has alot more pin-action than 10-pin or as people usually just call "bowling" triple is just like a series in bowling..and you might think "oh 500 i can bowl a 600 series in bowling" maybe so but candlepin and duckpin are MUCH HARDER and take ALOT more skill.
