@DragonZord90 Watch this back to back with "Dead Man" (1995) Jarmusch's Spaghetti Western film in black and white starring Johnny Depp, Robert Mitchum, Gary Farmer as Nobody (the Native American guy who has a cameo in Ghost Dog). The two movies have a lot in common...
I live in Pittsburg,CA and I just inquired at Bestbuy,Walmart and Target and they all do not carrie this movie. I was disgusted. They carrie so much garbage shit movies and not this. Now I have to to hunt it down online or some shit. Fuck me.
This is one of the truly underrated movies of all time. I love how it's made in the old Japanese style of movie making-beautiful and subtle then the explosion of violence only at the end. Quentin Tarantino can learn a lot from Ghost Dog....., oops, he did. He replaced the subtlety with cartoon violence and called it "Kill Bill."
no... all wrong , tarantino is italian and is movies are all based in italian western spaghetti style, check the soundtracks and the style of filming , kill bill is one exception and they are cowboy samurais , nothing to do it this movie
@Carlnj74 The underrated movies are the ones, that you can always be sure you like em cause they worth something. No promotion,no advertising,no special effects, just talent. These are the movies that really inspire you and make you think deeper than normal, about the world or yourself.Only one word can describe such movies: Priceless.I ve seen this movie like a thousand times, and still it inspires me every single time i watch it again...
watching this movie is good for your mind and soul, not even high right now either. ghost dog such a complex character one of my favorite movies ever now
Yup, totally under rated & sublimely clever.. So much depth hidden with some really clever parody and amazing direction.. I freakin love that movie with a passion.
BTW get the Jap OST & UK/US one then find the reggae tune (Armagideon time) then burn all to a CD (taking out the repeated tunes from both) and you have a WICKED soundtrack.
I often cruise with it blasting in my car pretending I just stole a Lexus with my home made scrambler lmfao ;)
Most of the pop corn audience are not even aware of who Jim Jarmusch is. But that's their loss though.
I absolutely loved the movie, I wish more filmmakers were like this and I sure wish that people would expand their consciousness a little more and discover the real art and power of cinema.
this movie sucks, he is not that kind of samurai! lack of skill, enemies were quite untough if you might say so! Though the music was quite formidable!
The whole track is Samurai Showdown by Rza (although I've also seen it on here as "raise your sword"). It seems to be cut weird though, cause up til 1:30 is like a loop of the climax, while around 1:50 is what the beginning of the song sounds like. The japanese edition of the soundtrack has all the ill shit from the movie, but it costs like $35.
the whole movie is like a adaptation of samurai life in the east to samurai life in the west :) i mean everything. the way music was put in this movie is too similar to old japanese samurai movies. diferent classes of people. killers, thugs, gangsters, mobsters refer to the samurai society back then :)
No, dude, I just meant that Miles did suport some hip-hop mc's and dj's before he died, and I think that Bobby Digital is one of thos guys he'd work with.
Yea i agree downloang is hella bad and atthe same time creativity in film should be better but uts no excuse to take away money from people hard work i dont thinpeopel understand how hard it is to make a good film or music .
this beat takes me across the universe when im high, its amazing what music can do to alter your brain chemistry, this song really braught that out in me
I think the whole thing is "Samurai Showdown (raise your sword)" and not "dead birds" + "SS (rys)". Dead birds is a different beat, a short chill one (search "dead birds ghost dog" to find it). In samurai showdown it takes these two beats you hear here, and mixes them with each other, in this they are separated.
I think that Hollywood ought to stop bitching about money because ppl downlaod from the net. Simply they should make more budget movies for everyone to collect.
By collect I don't mean download, but colletct inspiration for the creative process.
no moron, if the studios arnt making money from DVD sales then they have no reason to make fucking movies, theatre attendence is at an all time low, profits are all in home video, so when faggots like you dl shit and think it doesnt hurt anyone, it does and eventually you wont have jack shit to watch

I just saw this movie like 3 months ago on video on demand at my in-laws. I had been looking everywhere at movie places for it to rent it or buy it but no one seemed to have it or if they did it was stolen or rented and never returned or lost! this movie is awesome!!! I cant remember which movie I first saw Forrest Whitaker? But he's one of my favorite actors!! This vid is 5 stars!
anyone who liked ghost dog should read Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa. Awesome book about a real Japanese warrior whose principles are closely related to that of the ghost dog.
Just a random note, it is more likely that the Ghost dogs principles are more likely related to that of Musashi, than those of mushashi to those of shadow dog...just had to say that.
The HAGAKURE(1716)was written from JOCHO YAMAMOTO's talks(while he had became a "ronin") about his experience in a clan and the Bushido(a non-written code)...The 20th century writer Yukio MISHIMA, take this book very seriously and, finally, committed SEPPUKU...Myamoto MUSASHI was more likely to be a smart boy who wasn't respecting the code: in "the 5 wheels"(in fact, 5 bamboos of writing based on the 5 elements), he talks about his fighting experience and the foundation of his "2 swords school"
In our modern society, where material values and social status become synonym of success,One cant understand and connect to this concept because it's a movie about Honnor, ancient ways, sacrifice and a totally different way of livin, set apart from actual society. This is why the movie is kinda underground and never went Hollywood.Because only few can identify with it.
The ones who iconize this movie like me and you, reach beyond the movie to fully comprehend the message behind all this, and learn a lot from it,then apply it's teachings into their lives.Peace 2 All Ghost Dog's Disciples.
Brilliant man thanks for posting this! I've been looking for this for ages, its the instrumental part at the beginning I love the most. Its not on the ghostdog soundtrack but it was used brilliantly in the film to demonstrate his resolve when he set out for revenge. Brilliant film.

best movie I´ve ever seen on fu**** TV.
Sogar wenn ein Samurai plötzlich
enthauptet wird,
sollte er noch fähig sein, eine Handlung
mit Bestimmtheit auszuführen.
Wird er gleich einem rachsüchtigen
Geist und zeigt grosse Zielstrebigkeit,
so wird er trotz des abgeschnittenen
Hauptes nicht sterben.
Peace to all Ghost Dog fans!
