This IS a grippingly memorable, ultra-thoughtful interpretation that I would rank with the best on record. Arrau captures a most distinct, urgent atmosphere of horror in the opening, which darkness may penetrate just a bit further than anyone else's I recall.

the left hand was far too heavy. also the 2nd movement was too fast and there were nothing interesting dynamically. otherwise, very precise.

Lovely. My favorite recording, I think, of this Nocturne.
In fact, although I may prefer other performances of certain Chopin pieces, Arrau's Chopin collection, as a whole, is my favorite.
Whatever he plays, Arrau is usually at, or near, the top.
