  • Always loved the greens, blues, violets that Chris used back then. Different feel. In saying that, the lights now are at a different level. More mature, like the band, yet so precise.

  • The shows, too, began to explode (that fall tour is regarded as one of the strongest in Phishtory, with several classic shows), and the explosion in the light production emphasized the epic significance of these shows and what was happening at them.

The above text is from the Phish.net Faq (the last 2 posts - limited characters here..)

  • Fall 1995 (Leaps and Bounds): Beginning in the Fall of 1995, Chris' workmanship on the lights really took some huge steps, making leaps and bounds (by all accounts) in equipment or Chris' head or something, because the light show really started going nuts and blowing people's heads. The shows, too, began to explode (that fall tour is regarded as one of the strongest in Phishtory, with several classic shows), and the explosion in the light production emphasized the epic significance of these

  • On the Fall 1995 tour, I went to a long string of shows, and in some of the less packed west-coast shows, I stood next to Chris and watched him work the new lights. What he does is IN THE MOMENT with the music - wherever it goes - yet he does have some programmed effects he puts in or out manually TO GO WITH THE MUSIC that is often improvised.

  • What I meant to say was that I have replayed this video over 100 times in the last month?! Do I need to seek professional help?

  • Phish's lights are improvised by Chris Kuroda, thats his job, if you know much about Phish u probably know that, if you don't google it, its a fact not an assumption. Chris Kuroda is undoubtably an expert and all because your cousin knows a thing or two about lights doesn't mean you know anything about the way PHISH's lights are worked their unique and extremely improvisational that wat makes them phish

  • yo douchebags, the lights are as improvisationable as the band. thats why they call chris kuroda the fifth member of PHISH. he's back there hittin switches for your tripping pleasure. so what if the buttons trigger a sequence, Kuroda has to know when and where to compliment whatever sounds the band is creating with his light sequences. i'm sure they throw around ideas in rehearsal but on stage it's go with the flow

  • I'm just starting out as a lighting tech and this show looks pre-programed to me...just sayin...

  • @366424 i'm just startin out as a douche-bag, and you sound like a pre-programmed tool. thats all i'm saying.....best light show ever, tool.

  • even ck5 says in that tour he had 2 extra guys helping to run lights...his ring now is scaled back but he knows how to set it up just exactly perfect

  • YOUTUBE-DJ ILLUSION PARTY

  • we've got simples in the band

  • I love that guitar riff in the begining

  • not the most complex light show i've seen, a ton of lights but simple color changes and moves. still looks fricken awesome though.

  • @walkinggiant you should check out some of the more recent show's lighting... one thing about phish that definitely has improved in phish 2.0 and 3.0 is Chris Kuroda... I personally think the lighting has gone from being good to fucking awesome in the last 10 years

  • I tell you what programming all those lights must have taken days.

  • those lights are improvised, just like their jams. no programming

  • @phishbeat69 bullshit. lights are not imrpovised. and their jams are so redundant it doesnt take much improvision. but i guarantee they rehearse prior to tours and i guarantee the light show is preprogrammed to a great degree--dmx light shows are set up as scenes--the light tech has these scenes set up b4 tour, and runs it live.

  • @cojobo34

what the hell? do you know anything? the lights are obviously improvised man. you know nothing about phish if you think they're not.

  • @phishbeat69 easy lil, and quite obviously unexperienced musician/light tech.. it has nothing to do with Phish, kiddo. Its simple common sense from anyone who has a lil experience with live production and light show programming. again, they are in SCENES, so the show can be improvised to a certain degree, but the REHEARSAL involves practicing the SONGS to the SCENES. how often or how long the scenes are can be improvised in a live setting, but they are certainly PROGRAMMED BEFORE THE TOUR.

  • @cojobo34

you are clueless. just stop talking. read some interviews with CK5 and then go kill yourself cause you're so dumb.

  • @phishbeat69 u wanna get tuff, look me up kid. u dont know shit about dmx light programming. but if u wanna talk sum keyboard courage shit, save it for the other pussies. ur a sissified lil bitch.

  • @cojobo34

look at all the other comments retard. the lighting is improvised. i follow this band frequently, have read loads of interviews of not just the band but with kuroda. the lighting is improvised. go watch nickelback videos and save your little knowledge of lights for shitty bands that have them all pre-programed. idiot.

  • @phishbeat69 dude--i realize Phish and their light tech do alot of Improvisional Jams--but there is still A LOT of preparation--u think they take a year off and then just book a tour and show up to the first show without a rehearsal or without preprogrammed light shows/scenes, then you are obviously mentally-challenged and have 0 experience in live performance. I performed over 100 shows last year alone bud. get a life and stop acting tuff on YT, cuz i wud beat ur ass 4 this shit in person

  • @cojobo34 obviously the lights are prepared dumbass, and there's sequences that are prepared for certain songs but they improvise the lights during jams. and phish jams A LOT. good to know you finally realize how dumb you are. maybe you'll learn some more through your experience of doing lights for comedy shows. you should be listening to metallica or something. stay away from phish. they're not for idiots like you.

  • @cojobo34 you've performed over 100 amateur shows. and if you think the lights are completely prepared for phish then you should quit your job now.

  • @phishbeat69 actually they all paid dude--not a lot, but a couple hundred bux per show, so enough to get by with workin a part time job..but anyway, i apologize for insulting you, lost my cool, and u know a lot more about phish than me. i think the show is likely designed in scenes before hand for some of it, and most improv live, but i have no way to prove that, just my guess--but im not taking anything away from phish--they are great artists and everyone involved in the production is great too

  • @cojobo34

using the word "preprogrammed" throws some people off. yes, kuroda uses preprogrammed scenes, but throws them out whenever he sees fit. so everyone here is right. he improvises, with his personal preset scenes and movements and whatnot.

  • @mrandyp good point. and i appreciate you being considerate and not so spiteful and ego-driven as some of the other comments. seems most humans have lost a sense of dignity and integrity these days.. sad. take care.

  • fiz uma musica para o grande mestre ZÈ RAMALHO veja ela no youtube MUSICA PAPO CABEÇA em um show de musicas inéditas.

  • gai

  • wonderfully amazing song-very peaceful and inspiring. thanks for posting the video. thanks for the positive vibrations

  • Amazing, Trey's sound during the solo is incredible, peaceful is the word for it, this summer is going to be fun

  • silverchain - thanks for the videos man...I just went and bought the mp3's from Phish. What a great show and set of set list. I just got tickets for the Deer Creek show in June...my first show, and I'm so pumped up right now. Phish is unbelievable.

  • typo...set list

  • Lost my breath a good many times on this video =0 =)))

  • They didn't play it live enough? They played it live a lot!

  • Ah, to have lived in the Northeast in the late 90's. I miss those days and I miss these shows. They were on the absolute top of their game for a while here.

  • Ha! Is that a McDanold's logo in he lights at 4:20?!?! ;)

  • yes.

  • No, it's a Transformer. Your looking at his codpiece. Cheers.

  • i blogged in your favor on myspace silverchair :) TY for all the great footage~ Kindly

  • I wouldn't like that task of programming those light...

  • I would, I love programming lights!

  • weren't they done on spot didn't think they was programmed?

  • almost all concerts that utilize intelligent lighting technology have to be programmed. For a tour it usually takes about 3 months to programm everything and get it all ready to go. I should know...thats what i do lol :)

  • thanx for clearing that up!

  • ck does the lights in real time

  • way to many fixture attributes and different types of fixtures to run this rig manualy, he might do it in real time (as in switching different programmed scenes, but someone had to program all the color switching and stuff.

  • @brandonmcgee17 thank u. im tired of people acting like they know whats up when they dont. dmx light shows take a lot of time to program and have to be creative and accurate, and so does the band. i got a buddy who does big shows in chicago, and its not easy, as u kno. jus curious.. who do you do lights for, or where? peace.

  • one of my favorite songs of all time

  • LOve this song. They didn't play it live enough

  • Live is the only way they did play it.

  • You take the cake for the videos man, keep 'em coming, great stuff
