@XxPunkerkittyXx Not the best idea, Leto says so himself. The weight was giving him alot of health problems, like Gaut(sp?) in his feet, high blood pressure n high cholesteral(sp?)... So he had 2 lose the weight quickly. He says he went on this all liquid diet; water, fresh lemon juice, some type of syrup, n some type of pepper. It's made to flush unneeded toxins out of the body. It's a legitamate diet, but he said he lost the weight so fast, it gave him bone marrow problems.He doesn't advise it

@sHAd0W11591 No, starting out he took a 10 day detox that was essentially starving himself. He lost about 10 lbs during then of mostly fluid (the more weight you carry, the more fluid you hold and loose at the beginning of a diet). He lost weight very fast after that, yeah, but obviously it's not hard to guess it wasn't through healthy means. Someone who puts on that much weight that fast isn't prioritising their health. That said I'm not hating on Leto, I think he's a real dish, pardon the pun.

Jared wasn't just a "bit bigger" for this movie. He put on so much weight that it threatened his health. Jared is a very healthy man, and he takes extremely good care of himself. I imagine it was pretty painful to put on that much weight and to put all that crap into his body, when he usually takes care of it. It must have been very hard for him.

I think he was trying to delve into the character as much as he could and he probably found it necessary to gain that weight as part of the development of the "Mark David Chapman" within himself. AS a way to further accomplish the characterization needed to perform the role.

Acting is a dangerous business and an actors body is torn up due to sudden weight gain/drop throughout their career. Heath Ledger is a prime example of how much a role can consume someone mentally. They deserve more respect

Jared is extremely intelligent. He's entitled to make any film he wants. He doesn't sympathize with Chapman and tries to be as respecful to Lennon and his family as possible in this film. He filmed at the Dakota to be historically acurate as possible. This movie was filmed not to gain him publicity (believe me he's turned down many bigger roles), but to learn about compulsion and obsession and examine failure of humanity and to look into the mind of a man fixated on accomplishing his goal.

I agree Chapman did a horrendous thing when he took Lennon's life. Jared, his brother and his mother were all huge fans of John Lennon and have nothing but the deepest respect for him. Many movies have been made about the deaths of celebrities. Jared was a producer of this movie and it had limited release. He didn't make much money and didn't expect to. He turned down Clint Eastwood to do Flags Of Our Fathers where he could have gotten more publicity. I'm not arguing about this any more.
