I believe Castle genuinely wanted to shoot a second, alternate ending (All his other gimmick films were legit) but the projectionest's union went ballistic when they heard what he wanted their members to do !!!

The movie "Matinee" with John

Goodman is a ice tribute to Mr. Castle.

My uncle and my two cousins said they met Mr. Castle before a shoing of "The Tingler" as he was in a Philadelphia theatre checking out the props and doing a pre-show inspection.

What lucky guys! They weren't lucky when their moms found out they went across town to see monster movies though ;)

he did this because the studio wanted a nice ending, so he did this as kinda loop hole, while he did the vote thing, and how he talked about actually shooting an alternate ending, it never happened caus Castle wanted his ending in the movie
