@GrandFunker : hey you cant play japanese ps2 games on american console unless you mod the console. look on craigslist for a modded ps2 and you can play all these games
now the new series is out with amazing animation!!! and the live action movie is finally back being made in japan and not disney, they were going to f@#% it up!!..long live the yamato...
Wow, cool. I actually completed the first 2 of these games when they came out on the PSX but yeah, there is sooo much text/dialogue and it took me 3 days to really get into it, even with translated instructions. And there are a couple battles which you really need to know the story or you'd never guess how to win. I guess if they ported a PS3 version in English I would get it.
i have all the star blazers PSX and PS2 games I bought them from japan and I am in CA. I played the PS games and you don't need to know japanese to play them and beat them. I have guide and maps for them.
I am now playing the PS2 games like i said these are AMAZING AND EACH GAME RETELLS THE WHOLE STORY.
anyway contact me if you want more info on how to play them here in the US or a copy of them or something.
You wouldnt be able to play it or understand it unless you know Japanese. There's a lot of talking and the gameplay is very text heavy. I didnt even get to actual gameplay until one hour into the game. The PS1 games are the same way too.
I say just wait for Infinite Space for Nintendo DS in September
One on One and yamato will win, even against small fleets it'll win, you'd need probably over 4000 captial class ships just to take it down 1k to scratch it, 1k to dent it, 1k cripple it, and 1k to destroy it!
Now only if the would make all of the series on disk like the old ones & put it in the movies. The computerized animation is great. I think it would be a great seller.
Ok, all you BSG fanboys need a spoonful of shut-up. The Yamato (or Argo) took on ships the size of planets. PLANETS! As much as I love BSG, none of the ships there would beat Space Battleship Yamato!
I think Argo/Yamato's biggest edge was the fact that Sandor was always mucking around with some new gadget. Reflector force fields. Asteroid magnets. Wave motion cartridges...
Well that. Plus the fact that you can hit it with missiles and lasers all day. You might kill off half the crew but it'll still come back and kick your ass. Then be good as new with a few hours of repair work.
I downloaded this game out of curiousity. you dont actually start playing the game until about an hour into the cinematics! Plus its really slow paced and you'll have absolutetly no idea how to play if you dont know Japanese. I was drifting in space forever before I came into contact with something.
Yes, it can be played on the American PS2, if you get a special set of discs first, check out TOYSANDJOYS online store, based in Hawaii, for the special discs set, for about $30.00 and the games for about $70.00 a piece.
Whoa, this game looks kewl!!!! Is it a RTS Space Battle game? I remember some re-runs I watched of the series as a kid... It was awesome... It was the true precursor to Macross/Robotech...
Space Battleship Yamato RULESSSS!!!!

Too bad, there's no North American software company that can translated and redub as a Star Blazers PS2 game for the fans.

The music starting at 0:25 and ending about 1:07 was such a blatant ripoff of "Duel Of The Fates" by John Williams...LOL!
I do wish they'd sub these games and bring them to the U.S.
