  • cutee.

  • Styled dreads, natural dreads. All dreads are good (Except plastic shit, it needs to be made out of hair IMO). Just don't use wax and you're alright.

I had natural locks myself, the first 3-4 months were a bitch but after 6 months and onward it got better every month. Cut them off after 12 months to a short cut, been growing my hair for a little more than a year, reaching to my nosetip/earlobes

Btw could all niggers (no offense, not racist, prefer the word that's all) STFU, locks go waay back!

  • hahajanis joplin. i love her

  • nice dreads for neglect method. well done me old china

  • maryjane

  • rad dreads just you need to retwist them if you want them to look good

  • wow, that looks really good. The not combing method is really good. What song is that playing??

  • it would be dirty hair if he didn't clean it...you sound pretty ignorant no offense.

  • erm if i have short hair does this work if i dont cut it for a while and dont comb i rly want dreads tho it would take a whiel for my hair to grow long recently got a hair cut -.-

  • no yyou really must get dreads made. it wont grow naturally. i think xd

  • grow your hair and get it done professionalle, or grow your hair and wait 10 years :)

  • wrong

  • if you want dreads for the look then get them done wen your hair is about the lenth of your chin on your fringe onlly took my hair 8 months to grow that long... the way this dude has done it is called way of neglect like i said if you want dreads for the look then have them done! this lad has them for the journy to dread that way wait a few years growing with no comeing and lots of wash :)

but for look have them done dude lot quickeer

    peace out

  • Man, those are some of the best dreads i've ever seen...just...beautiful. ;D

  • you are a cutie

  • hehe...your cute!

  • awesomeeeee

  • all you wax using haters that say it looks gross....ur fuckin stupid and i bet my hair owns urs...with no wax in it. Salon dreads DO NOT look better

  • "i bet my hair owns yours" <<< hahahaha. this is the gayest thing ive ever read! haha

  • hahahahahahahahaha.

  • i understand the not combing part, but do u mess w/ ur hair at all or just completely not touch it?

  • Nice.

    They look good.

    Sexyy ;)

  • ouaou beautifule !!! t'es pas mal du tout j'kiff bien tes dreads finallement ;)

  • white or black is your skin colour it has nothing to do with your hairgen if you have striaght thin hair than dreads are hard to get (what the hell has that to do with skin colour?)if you have thick curly hair you find getting dreads is just about no combing and using the instructions this autor has posted.

  • In fact, the celts used to dread their head even before niggers thought about it..

  • niiice lookin good

  • Your timeline link is bad, 404 not found

  • i love dreadlocks...

    but that looks horrendously nasty.

im not trying to be mean but that makes me want to LITERALLY throw up

  • Fucking awsome, for real man just plane awsome!!!!!

  • want dreads but is there any quicker way?

  • Definitely! There are salons who do it professionally, and salon dreads look much, much better. I had mine done at Knotty Boy in Vancouver, Canada. Or, check them out online. They have a very good instructional video and its free! The quality between the no-combing method and the backcombing, then wax is night and day. The biggest drawback is the cost. salon dreads are expensive.

  • Oooh, they're so pretty. :)

  • Speak for yourself.

  • What a fag. If you have a fucking opinion that fights against everyone elses, then go fuck yourself somewhere else, go to a video that you like and compliment it. GO. Be gone with your feminine bitch woman self.

  • you, im therenagadeoffunk

  • Dude your my fucking hero. your dreads are gonna be so fucking insane in like a year. i know a guy who took the natural route and has had them for 8 years! and whoever said you are gonna get acne, wouldnt you have axne by now after a year? anyways man keep it up their already looking good.

  • yo man i have a question i have dreadlocks (becoming) and my roots are getting fucked up you know how to making tight again?

  • Take the root, make a hole, then feed the end through, then do it again making the hole the opposite side of the root. until its tight.

  • oh god..

Davidinchains, I know you want them the natural way, so im not replying this for you, but I need to set this straight.

The method described by aj666aj is indeed a well accepted and tried method, practiced by many people with dreadlocks. This is however NOT and I repeat NOT a good idea!

  • Well I have really nice dreads iv had them for years, Im white as so my hair doesnt naturally dread. And aslong as you thread them in different parts you can avoid the braided look.

  • I'm white too, so my hair isnt ideal either. and I always have about an inch of normal hair before the dread starts, but it grows like that & it dreads automatically. For more than 3 years now!

You should try it ;) Trust your locks!

But on the other hand.. if thats the look you want - go for it :)

  • no alice in chains? :( wats with the name?

  • OMG WHAT SONG IS THIS I NEED IT LOL

  • *sigh* lagmanowns it says in the description wat song it is...

"song is Mary Jane...by Janis Joplin"

  • natural dreadssss right there!

  • this kid is gunna get mad acne

  • im going to get acne?....explain

  • arent you on knottylocks?

    im on there too

how often did u wash when u started?

  • yea im on knottylocks :)

..when i started i still washed the same as now...few times a week

  • my first set i backcombed but now i want natural locks

    thnx for the info

  • ur on knottylocks dude? whats ur screen name?

  • who?

  • my screen name on knottylocks is davidinchains i think

  • They're comin along nicely! keep it up!

  • yes this whole thing has been quite smooth! Just make sure when you wash and when your head itches, ONLY use your palms! The reason is because your fingers might accidentally unknot your hair, and you'll eventually make it a habit to clockwise palm rub your hair, which helps it to group together, correct?

  • one year congrats dreadhead.

  • thx alot :D...im at 13 months now

  • I hope you don't mind for asking, so here it goes: I've been wearing hats lately so my hair won't be in my eyes like it has been bugging me at work, do u think since my hair gets trained to go sideways and away from my eyes, will that mess up the locking process of the hair closest to my forehead?

  • Search for the Knotty Locks forum and post any questions in the help sections. You'll get all the information you need about growing dreads in this forum.

  • nickatnight68. This is from my experience.

It all depends on how quickly your hair gets greasy. You want to give the hair enough time to knot when its not greasy. When I first stopped combing, I had to wash every 3 days. My hair gradually adapted and now i wash once a week, allowing plenty of time for it to knot without getting too greasy.

  • Why does it mather if it gets to greasy? I heard (atleast from my parents) that my hair gets greasy fast, and well,i stopped using shampoo. But anyway, the real question i had. Say,hypothetically, if i would go 1-2 months with no combing, and then sudenly, comb/brush it. Would i have to start over then?

  • When your hair is oily, it has less friction and has more chance of unknotting. I suggest experimenting with the delay between washes and see what works with your hair.

The answer to your second question. If you brush out all the knotts......yes......you will have to start again. Why would you want to do that, keeping in mind you still wnat to get dreads?

  • I was just trying to determine since when my hair has actually started dreading, since i combed it maybe 1 month ago. But, im not anymore:) But even if my hair is a bit greasy, how much slower will it dread?

  • I'm ready for the commitment, but I have a question. By habit I'll run my fingers through my hair from time to time, does that really bother the process a whole lot? I don't really run them through completely, just ya know.

  • If you can feel the hair unknot when you are doing it....then yes. Trust me...you'll feel it.

  • Great series man! You're an inspiration. I've decided on going through the process myself because of you. Your series gave me the guts to try this experience. No better way than the natural way!You have my respect. Thanks a lot!

  • i have a question. would my hair dread faster if i washed my hair with the special soap every day, or every 2-3 days?

    thanks

  • Woah...That's freakin' sweet. I wish I had courage enough to do dreads. Though, I think I would go the wimpy way out and do it controlled rather than leaving my hair alone. I've done that before and it rat-nested rather than dreads. I looked at the devArt pics and LOVE the last one. Might need to print it out and tak it to my wall. Very pretty.

    Good luck with your dreads!

    ME

  • i love that crazy combo dread in the back! its gonna be sick when its a few feet longer!

p.s. do you like brian fair's dreads? i think they're my favorite dreads ever. if you don't know who im talking about, just google him and see the awesomeness.

  • You are incredibly gorgeous, and you're right, this process looks like a heckuva lot of fun. Maybe someday I will join in on the fun... ;-) What made you decide that dreads were right for you? (cuz they REALLY are, they look great on yah.)

  • Your so good looking, and i totally respect natural dreads, keep them up they look pretty damn good

  • This came up in a Janis Joplin search, I'm a BIG fan and I've never heard the song before so THANKYOU. Your hair is coming along well but I prefere the more controlled method of sectioning and back comibing, as it gives you dreads that actually look like dreads straight away. But keep up the good work. : ) I've had my dreads for two years now.

  • FelicityShagwell ...hehe thx...im very patient so i dont mind how long my hair takes to lock up...do u have any videos or pictures of your hair?....btw i love this song,i found it by accident.

  • Thanks for replying to my message David, so where did you find this song? I can't find a way to send you links to pics of my hair and I don't have any videos of it!

  • Coming along nicely dude.

  • wutz tha song playing in the video??

  • lol song is Mary Jane...by Janis Joplin

  • thankyousomuchdavidinchains! i tole u it wuz driving me crazy. your locks r truly glam bytheway!

  • wow ive watched most of your videos, your hair is fucking amazing dude! i was thinking seriously about getting dreadlocks, but i keep thinking that if i gett hem and i dont like them it will be a waste of a day (or 12 months) and ive heard they can be a bit of a pain to get out completely

  • AHaha :D

  • you can start dreads at 3 inches long

  • Why would i want dreads in 3 hours? For me the whole fun of getting dreadlocks, is GETTING dreadlocks.I trust nature and i like what its doing to my hair.

  • Dude just use knotty boy takes atleast 3 hours i know people rant about but there fake and arent real not true you get excellent results

  • do you totally ignore it as far as twisting/seperating dreads?

  • yea jrizzzle...all i do is wash my hair...nothing else

  • I'm twisting, I figured as much as it was one of the methods I read a lot about. But, I am finding one of my fav things about starting dreads is that I get to twist as a second hobby, I was curious if you actually twisted just cuz. Any how your dreads are sweet and I lucked out by finding you a few days ago rather than actually watching for the whole year lol

  • Love that 3 dread congo hey what shampoo and etc yo use? And how long what your hair when you started?

  • nice man nice...good song xD

  • what's that song?? itz driving me CRAZYYYYY i luv it!
