  • I could watch this over & over...and I have. LOL!

  • Very nice. I have the cd coming in the mail next week. Can't wait!

  • where can i get this for my ipod?

  • @odacon400 pirate bay my friend

  • Who could possibly dislike this!?

  • Who is the bass player?

  • I'm gonna transcribe Delfeayo's solo!

  • Awesome!

  • Does anyone know where I can get the sheet music for this on piano?

  • i love how each brother occasionally squats when they solo

  • ellis marsalis's balls were just filled absolute gold!

  • hey has anyone found a score to this cause im hoping to do this for one of my concerts at my school

  • @trumpethead1 volume 4 of the hal leonard standard real book

  • P.S. Jayson deserves credit too, great time, and even better fills

  • Great family. Notice the movement of all the Marsalis' and Wynton's, pretty interesting if you ask me. As a trumpet player, Wynton won this song, but all solos were amazing to listen to

  • i love a good jazz band, good qulity too.

    GO BRANFORD ON THE

    TENOR SAX

  • don't worry the guy who disliked it did it by accident...sorry.

  • @DZJackson13 Were you stoned and misread it as"Dis-I-Like"?

  • Wynton solo

    Digging it so bad

  • 1 person must like Justin "Bib"ber

  • the one person who dislked this must be the guy who got caught tryin to sneak in to the concert

  • I just love Wynton's solo from start to finish =]

  • 2:34 - I think Delfeayo is probably the best trombonist I've ever listened to (open to suggestions!) ... but I think this song proves that the saxophone was made for jazz solos. They are all great musicians, but that sax solo just swings. Branford's version from his albums is one of my favorite Marsalis cuts.

  • @originalmusicworks suggestions: Wycliffe Gordon, Jack Teagarden, J.J. Johnson, Kai Winding, Slyde Hampton, Trombone Shorty, Fred Wesley, Wayne Henderson, Michael Dease....that's just a few.

  • @MrTrommylee thank you very much for the suggestions! I'll check them all out... I need to learn more appreciation for the T-Bone! : )

  • @originalmusicworks i still listen to royal garden blues all the time. its so strong all the way through. and i agree...branfords take swings like mad.

  • That lick by Wynton at 4:38 is dirty! How can a family be this good?

  • oribonbon how was Maine?

  • best trumpet solo eva

  • Man Delfeayo's solo. :)

  • man, ellis whew...

  • Nothing like family!

  • y is jason totaly overlooked?

  • What a lucky man you are gsco82 !!!

  • If you're ever in New Orleans, they play here non-stop. I got to play beside Delfeayo, and he even said I looked like Jason Biggs. Wish I were a better player...

  • @etopit46 Awesome! I get to play with him every Saturday! One day.....I will be like him!

  • Christmas time around the piano must be awesome for these guys...

  • luv luv luv

    a truly legendary American family!

    thanks for posting this!

  • What a great performance! A lot of talent in one family! I have seen Ellis, Wynton and Branford in separate performances, and they were 3 of the best jazz concerts I have ever attended.

  • Wynton and his tidbit of Dizzy's Atmosphere...lol.

    Delfeayo is so legit!!

  • Wonderful!, fantastic.

  • damn they are all sooo good, i just wish wynton wouldnt have to open his big mouth so much

  • what do u mean by "I just wish Wynton wouldn't have to open his big mouth so much"?

  • The triple tonging that Delfayo did on the trombone was so clean. They sound excellent!

  • Dad is jamming like no other can o that Piano!!!!

  • that must be one proud dad!

    "Dat's mah boys!"

    :o)

  • is there sheet music to this song??

  • It might be in what they call the "Silver Book"

  • So Swinging, love this tune...

  • The Musical Marsalis' Gotta love em

  • jason plays drums and delfayo trombone right?

  • Ellis Marsalis the Father of Smoooooooooooth....

  • Branford isn't happy with how he soloed. See him shake his head at (3:50). Wynton isn't thrilled with his own playing (4:52). Delfayo almost misses the entrance (6:10). But it still sounds good.

  • I think Branford shakes his head at (3:50) because Wynton played his lick back. Don't see what you're saying about Wynton at (4:52), but I see that Delfayo almost missed the entrance. I would get distracted by Ellis' solo, too, though.

  • @redngoldsaxman He says something to Branford that they both think is funny. I doubt it was "that was a great solo."

Nobody can play a perfect solo each time they improvise. That's the beauty of true improvisation. They aren't rattling off pre-rehearsed licks. They are trying to create something of beauty on the spot---and they weren't happy with what they came up with. You can't get diamonds every time you go down the mine.

And, to be clear, if I played any of those solos, I'd be thrilled.

  • Ellis led them in pretty well

  • how the hell do you know what branford was thinking? and what branford lic did wynton play before? Branford opening phrase mimics delfeayo's ending phrase, and ellis opening phrase mimics wyntons ending phrase at the top of his second chorus but you will have to be more specific about the whole wynton coppin a lic

  • @redngoldsaxman he more than likely shook his head because he didn't like his solo... people do that all the time!

  • The whole album is brilliant...

  • tried to close the window, but I just couldn't bring myself to stop listening...

  • anyone know where i can find the lead sheets to this

  • Man Ellis Marsalis Blows my mind. I can just imagine him saying to his wife, "Women, Birth me a jazz quintet...and a producer"

  • :) Nice imagination...

  • LOl

  • Best ever

  • whats the title of the song..??

  • Swingin at the haven. You can also find this on one of branford's old albums titled royal garden blues

  • its so fucking sick, best jazz ever

  • so much talent in one family, makes you sick dont it

    ; )

  • Yeah,hopefully the bass player isn't a Marsalis ;)

I love this family;Branford's my favorite because he can play any style, always be himself & still fit in the music so naturally...Some friends and I once had a talk with Wynton at the Marciac Jazz Festival(he's a very sweet and funny guy) and as we were speaking about Branford,he said "Bran is such a talented musician...but he's not serious."...what would it be if he was?...8)

  • Best musician family ever.

  • @adibs19 Naw.. The Jones Brothers.

  • love wynton's dizzy quotes

  • I love Delfeayo! The whole group is awesome though. What a great song.

  • delfeayo definitly had the best solo on this one

  • ahhhh its so nice

  • This is so cool to see

  • Elis plays with effortless charm and undying loyalty to the keys.

  • Man, 20 years ago Wynton would have killed this--Monette and other factors have made him a very good trumpet player not great...listen to Wheel within a Wheel with the BLakey Band..HOLY SHIT! No one could play like that!

  • So, are you saying that he's diminished in ability over the last 20 years? I love that recording with Blakey too... I listen to it all the time.

  • No way can you call Wynton the best... even in 80's... Lee Morgan, Clifford, Freddie... they just play right. Wynton plays too perfect... It never captures the pure essence of the music. Thats my opinion.

  • That's his classical training...you should hear him play Bach's Brandenburg Concertos...it's earth-shattering!

  • Well I guess... But you cannot consider him the best Jazz trumpet player... I don't understand why people believe this.

  • Just listen to him doc. Just hearing is enough!! LOL His articulations and runs are perfect

  • I think that's the thing those gentleman above mean. Not everything can be perfect in jazz. You can't say what's wrong and what's right. And that's the beautiful off it. But I think it's genious what he does. and I love to listen to his works

  • Yeah I guess... you make good sense and you are right it's about what you enjoy. I honestly know he is a monster and realize that he is one of the most talented players of our time but I don't think you can call him the best. His articulation is very clear all the time. When he is playing Cherokee I agree.. it is very impressive. But I just don't always get that umph. that sensation where my life has been changed. Lee, Clifford. those motherfuckers gave me that. And Miles knew how to pick a band

  • Well halleluja. You just have described the thing I've been trying to say. I just couldn't find the words and you found them for me :p

  • who is the pianist?? there grandfather??

  • father. Elis Marsalis

  • ELLIS!

THis is the man who developed Terrance Blanchard, Harry Connick, and a host of others.....One of America's giants of jazz...Yes I'm from New Orleans.

  • New Orleans OWN!! It was a pleasure to meet these guys, let alone work with them! Simply the best!

  • how does musical genius run rampant in one family?... "where we going for breakfast"?

  • family disfunction as jason calls it

  • Introducing the most talented musical family since the Mozarts....who else is there to keep jazz alive besides Wynton..when he is gone..OMG!!!! No more jazz

  • i def disagree with that. you havent checked out nicholas payton who has pretty much mastered every instrument. even making an album just with himself on it

  • OMG! Amazing...absolutely love it!!

  • I've got this on dvd its great

  • roland guerin on bass

  • WHO is on bass!!!! Don't leave him out!!!

  • Yes,it is Roland Guerin.

I'm sorry. I did not ignore him.

I thought about Marsalis family in Maine.

I think the base to be important in music. And I love it.

  • @oribonbon Bass.

  • MERCY!!!! :) :) :) :) :)
