Your actually correct. If there is no damage to people or property on the ground especially in an emergency situation as the pilot deems necessary, no fine or action will be taken against the company, owner or pilot. The pilot has the right to do whatever necessary to insure the safety of his crew, passengers and persons on the ground.

Engine, Gearbox "Chip" detection warning lights mean, you must land immediatly.

If you can set the aircraft down with no damage, you have done your job well, no matter where that is. Great job.

I talked to a cop later on, he said that the helicopter had an emergency light go off, and they had to land right away. They really were about 150 yards away from the helipad. Kinda crazy!

@wiiwillrockyou1 - The thing about helicopters is, they can glide, but only if you maintain the rotor RPM. If the rotor stops spinning, you start spinning - downwards! It requires very quick actions with the collective within seconds of an engine failure to get the machine into a glide so that the RPM is maintained! You can hover for a few seconds using the free-spinning rotors. Check out "Helicopter Autorotation".
