Far as I can tell, he is one of the top competitors in kendo... there are several clips of him facing off against Miyazaki-sama in '99 and '00. He is extremely respectful towards his opponents, and likewise is respected for his humility and his tenacity in the matches.

Usually you do it when your opponent is coming toward you to attack, as a counter, since you don't get enough reach with 2 hands.

Thank you for uploading this video. The Eiga brothers are completely amazing. I still have way more to learn about them. The are so completely strong-mind, body, spirit and heart. The single blow (tsuki)was completely amazing! It inspires me to practice so hard everyday. I will only be here in japan for a few more months, but to have Eiga sensei as my teacher I have learned so much already. Everyday, for as long as it lasts I will learn as much as I can.
