  • Not loving Falling into infinity..I love Images and Words and Octavarium

  • Awesome, he's a hand-talker.

  • In my opinion all there albums are unique and amazing, they havent made one shit song every song is mind blowing and all the bands members are amazing. People that criticize James Labrie for bringing down the band are fucked in the head

  • Their new stuff is questionable. Black Clouds and Silver Linings was great instrumentally and okay lyrically, but Systematic Chaos was just not worth listening to in my opinion except for In Presence of Enemies.

  • James LaBrie.....shutting up idiotic criticism....DT is change..that is what I like about Dream Theater....hearing an album from first second to the last and wonder..."what will they do next?" guess what one thing is predominant...you never cease to amaze me :-)

  • you're right, my friend

  • LONG LIVE JAMES

  • I totally agree. I love the band, always will. But every album further from IAW lost something. I love Awake, it's heavier yes, in some spots, but the magic is there. I find the new album great musically, almost like they're trying to recapture the old sound, but the atmosphere just isn't there, and I'm talking lyrically. DTs lyrics have gone from abstract and mysticaly awesome to just plain silly, and please, for the love of God, keep Portnoy away from the microphone. Pantera and DT don't mix.

  • Well, think logically! If all of their new albums are like IAW, there must be alot more fans that say they're boring!

From my own opinion, I think that IAW isn't very great... Well, I know there's Metropolis and Learning To Live, but the others are... not very unique...I think that the best album so far (again, in my opinion) is Six Degrees...

but like EGLchan said, People just like having opinions, so what's the problem? :)

    DT will never die \m/

  • LaBrie > amazing singer :]

  • As a personal thought (with much respect to the rest of DT albums), I consider that the REAL creativity and magic is caught between WDADU and ACOS.

  • We're two.

And as a personal addition, that magic is reprised on SFAM and a bit on Octavarium. What doesn't make all the other albums bad, just less magical and with less prog mojo, specially Systematic Chaos.

  • You know what the problem is with people no matter what you do they would never ever be satisfied... Face it Dream Theater always expanded themselves and created something original every time... Whether you like what they do or not they have basically covered tons of musical ground if they made every album like Images And Words then fans would be like we want something new when they keep doing something new they say no I A W Progressive is diversity and that is Dream Theater end of story!

  • Very well said, I think I just miss the effort that went into the lyrics they would write, they were poetic. Maybe it's just personal preference, but if you read the lyrics from WDADU, IAW, AWAKE, and compare them to the last 3 albums, there's no comparison. The lyrics have just gotten simple, corny and come off rushed as if no effort went into writing them. I miss that "retro Neil Peart" type stuff. That, to me, created the magic that mainstream top 40 garbage didn't have.

  • Thank you I agree with you but Black Clouds And Silver Linings is really as good as Awake and Images And Words it's wonderfully done great content musically and lyrically as well. James Labrie is back in action with great pipes John gave some great melodic solos the album sounded like old Dream Theater with a lot of new ground and for the haters they can go to hell :) I agree the first three albums had very poetic lyrics loved it but I am in love the new record :D

  • Why :S

  • Very good reply, i cant tell you how much i agree with you there! James said it and he was right on, i for one love the older stuff, but i am glad they dont sound like they did in 1990. Black clouds is a great album, and so was SC !

  • Yeah, "The Count of Tuscany" is one of the best songs they've ever done, in particular the last 5 minutes.

Black Clouds is a very good album, and I think it is a definitive DT record. The only thing that I don't like is the Portnoy shouts in "A Nightmare to Remember". That song is so damn cool until that part comes around, and every time I hear it I like that part less. It was a bad idea, especially because the lyrics don't fit an aggressive shout like that. The album as a whole is fantastic.

  • He is an awesome singer if you dont like him then buzz off... No need to ruin things for the fans that appreciate the entire band.

  • I don't mind if they repeat or not Images and Words, they should be free to make the thinks they like with their music.

  • He's exactly right. People keep telling them to make another Images & Words, but if they'd kept making I&W style albums, people would've told them that it was getting old and that they needed to diversify more.

  • I agree. People just like having opinions.

  • James is spot on in this interview. I hate it when people complain about the new albums when they come out, because the sound is always so different, and it doesn't sound like I&W. However, like James said, DT's style is about changing and expanding their musical styles.

    Quoted For Truth:

"That's a true Dream Theater fan, is that they are open minded and they do expect change." -James LaBrie

  • He couldn't be more right.

  • James is an average singer... but he's great at interviews!!

    DT ROCKS.

  • I wouldn't say hes average, I mean, I can name 10 better singer, for me, though he is rather brilliant. However I think we can all agree that he is spot on in his interviews.

  • Wheres part 1 Of this interveiw????

  • Aaaah.. I saw them all on the link. Thanks for the interviews!

  • yeah this SC business is exactly what they said about awake. james is 100% right.

  • The reason I love DT IS because each album is different. I love the band and what each member brings to it, each album is the same, yet different, in a wierd way. This is one of the only bands I can truly listen to EVERY song of, without ever getting bored. Most bands try to get a "one hit wonder", but these guys pump out the singles people don't even know about

  • "If we didnt change, we became boring" Perfect James, thats what progresive rock is about; changes! Dream Theater rocks

  • if you want dream theater to stay the same you should be dedicated to one genre...say if you like train of thought which was pure metal and dont like images and words which was more progressive...then you should just be interested in metal and not the other directions dream theater takes....if you get what i mean

  • DT is the 1st band to EVER make great album this far into a career..and DT is the only band that will never have a bad album

  • So true! ^_~

  • i feel the same way..i love dream theater so much that i can listen to them the whole day...and never get tired

  • I got Images last week and it was like my entire library didn't exist anymore.

  • systematic chaos, octavarium, and train of thought are my favs..

  • Systematic Chaos was the first DT album I ever heard/got, which was probably not a great place to start. I didn't really like it that much. Octavarium was the second, which I just got a few weeks ago. Admittedly I first heard Panic Attack on Rock Band. I want to hear either Train of Thought or Metropolis next because ToT is supposed to be their heaviest album and Metropolis is one of their highest rated.

  • Train of Thought, is their Show-off album in some form. The Fast drum beats, the super Shred solo's, etc, etc. Cool, album. I like it. But some DT fans thought it lacked the other aspects of Dream Theater.

  • I got both Train of Thought and Scenes from a Memory about a month ago and I love them both. ToT didn't sound show-off to me, but I do agree it wasn't as good as Scenes or Images.

  • yeah I agree, but as a Maiden-fan also, I have too say that Maiden also keeps quality up! They have existed for 30 years, and there newest realese are awesome!! (meaning "DT"-good)

  • @DreamTheaterFan1128 Opeth will never make a bad album...

  • @DreamTheaterFan1128 well, i really dont like the Train and Sistematic, but its my opinion you know

  • DT's open approach to their music is the reason they survive. Thier music always catch my attention, that's why they are the best.

  • I LOVE JAMES! <3

  • I love James!

  • AWAKE is a masterpiece!

  • What does he say that gets beeped?

  • fuck yourself or something like that

  • A band should never write the same album twice and I completely agree with Labrie, Kudos man, I & W is one of my alltime favorite albums but I don't want another I & W vibe because their is already I & W!

  • James seems really intellectual to me, now as I have watched some interviews with him. That's just great! And let's not forget he's also one of the greatest singers in rock :D

  • Wow really interesting! James is such a character!

  • That was poor editing with that beep I still heard what he said!

  • Yeah lmao! He should of just stuck with that answer. He has a fair point, people who whinge because they don't sound the same as they did 15 years ago should just take it on the cheek really.

  • I'm still waiting for an album like Images & Words, Awake or scenes from a memory...

And I dont want every album to be like that, but I hope they'll get the idea someday...

  • Yes, totally!!!
