well at least we in the modern times are ignorant and don't know when the next cataclysm will come. So we won't be sacrificing any kids any time soon nor will we be worrying about it. We will just be jolted out of our everyday existence when it happens. I guess ignorance is bliss sometimes.

The planets line up giving a greater tidal pull on the seas, as like the moon but with more force,hence creating greater tidal flows around the earth, and also displacing more poler ice which in turn creates more water to the sea and oceans. Hence water covering more land?
