i was too young to understand racism/black people. i just remember watching it with my parents and laughing our butts off!! now all they show is crap!!! i don't watch any of the new shows.
These guys deserve everyhting Hattie McDaniel received. We've come a long way since they stereotyped people this way now lets laugh at ourselves wheterh we be white, black, brown, purple, or crimson. With the wars and such, lets get together in the USA!
Good comedy. Very likeable characters that I would enjoy having as a neighbor. Yes they act goofy, don't we all. Sure better than reality tv now. Ever notice how good tv was when there were only 3 or 4 channels?
It saddens me to this day that this show was filled with so-called racism. No, it was filled with comedy. Intelligent people knew that all of the shows during the 1950's were filled with scheming, stupid men and loving, motherly and smart wives like Sapphire. It was the people who were insecure about their own selves from the NAACP that made the decision to remove the show. I loved them, I laughed and these talented people had work. We didn't have a voice to what was done to this show!
Everyone is worried about how this show isn't racist. However, I'm doing a project showing how the Cosby Show redefined blacks on TV, and I'm using this as an example. This is full of negative stereotypes! Is it funny? Yes. Is it well acted? Oh yes! However, the NAACP pulled it off the air because it was so full of negative stereotypes about blacks!!
heres an interesting story. sewer workers say that whenever this show went to a commercial, the level of sewage would rise considerably because everybody would run to the bathroon cause they didnt want to miss one minute of the show
Sad, these guys don't even have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. NAACP, sure f^*ked up when they took this off the air.Tim Moore(King Fish), also use to be a boxer in his day. Made over $100,000. When he reitred from vaudeville, he worked in a rubber boots factory. He use to tell the workers stories about himself, and they thought he was full of it. Then along came Amos & Andy,
This was simply great comedy played by great performers. No more stereotypical than shows like Sanford&Son or Good Times, only funnier. So what if the lead characters talk and act funny, they're supposed to, it's comedy. Notice that the black characters that play supporting parts are not being stereotyped?
cont. from below that were worse) Sapphire the strong minded wife always trying to get a better social status and correcting Kingfish in no uncertain terms/ the nosy meddling mother-in-law/ lightning the not very smart one/ and many more. Show was done with great dignity. Many of the bad guys in a given episode were white. Oft times people of statue and acheivement were black as Sapphire attempted to upgrade their status. It was an amazing show with amazing talent. Now go laugh& enjoy.
I am sure glad Laurel and Hardy, The 3 stooges, Abbot and Costello and a large cast of others who were not black. They would take them of the air. Truth is these people were comic genius's. Comedy is all about things and people not going according to Hoyle. ALL comedy has this quality. If all were normal we would not laugh. This had it all Kingfish/always trying to beat the system/Andy the gullible one/ Calhoun the not so honest lawyer( I know a million real life white lawyers continue
'Andy, this thing is driving me crazy. If I knowed that making out income tax was so hard, I wouldn't have allowed myself to make any money' 'No?' 'In fact, if I'd tried a little bit harder I wouldn't have made any at all' Now that is great comedy, thanks for having the gonads to post them, every time I watch I laff so hard I cry. Way better than the shit in today...TV are you listening?? It's not about RACE it's about laughing. The world needs to laugh more
i was too young to understand what racism was, but i just remember watching the show with my parents and we wouild laugh our butts off!! now everything is crap!!!
@emptymind56 47% of the American households don't pay any income tax, but they are all in favor of people who work paying more. They call it their "fair share". So, all in all, it does seem like Kingfish is still alive and well. In fact, there are millions of him out there.

@emptymind56 These guys were not new to show business. They were well seasoned vaudeville performers and new how to make a laugh out of punctuation.

What great memories! These guys were professionals in every sense of the word.
Tragic that their own people don't recognize them for the great talents that they were.
