Taimak is too advanced in the spriritual as well as a super athlete. I keep seeing acting as a distraction really for his level. One of the few super studs that isnt silly or wayward when it comes down to it.
@powownickiyaya Hey T, how have you been? Hope everything is well and yes I have the peace that passes all understanding...pray you have it has well...
Denzel, Wesley, and Eddie did very well in the 80's. Doors were opening for black men. You just had to be twice as talented and equally hard working than the White conterparts...
I met Taimak years ago and it is no mystery to me why he did not make it. He was a complete arrogant asshole. A few years ago, I contacted him on Myspace to see what he was up to lately and shared that memory with him. And guess what? He got nasty with me in the same arrogant asshole way. Not a single ounce of humility. Time has not changed him one bit. He is a supreme dick who deserved his fate.
@liacashmere58 There is a great quote made by Troy Beyer in this clip that sums him up beautifully: "If you are not anchored in something greater than your ego, you're going down." And honey, Taimak's ego is so big, it has it's own orbit!
@liacashmere58 I cannot and do not profess to know what caused his ego to be inflated. All I can I can speak on is my personal experience and observations. I guess you'll just have to read between the lines of those who know him best and draw your own conclusions.
@soulbrotha63 I have to co-sign to everything that you mentioned b/c I heard the same exact thing from the #1 fans that still support him only b/c of his looks and his "fine-ness", which is sad...I too fell for the okey-dokey act until he got engaged to that wrestling chick and that's when the shit hit the fan with the sistas and they told EVERYTHING about him. When this show aired I felt bad for him then saw and heard so much stuff until I really didn't feel bad for him anymore!
You people are idiots. He is not even close to Will. Will actually has talent and personality to go with his looks. This dude is just a pretty boy. Dime a dozen. Notice Flo Anthony ONLY commented on his looks....
I was wondering what happen to him back then when I grew up watching The Last Dragon movie. So a lot of people think that it has something to do with white people?? Not True! Taimak aint the only one that can't act at all, he work so hard to became very popular in the Last Dragon film Just like Rockwell ended his music career.
@CitySkin09 : NO. He Looks Like He Needs some sun, but I think it's all that Powder they put on Folks before you go on Camera. HE IS MIXED-RACE, white and Black so his light complexion comes out if he doesn't get a Tan from being outdoors.
i love the 80's so much but one thing that i always noticed b4 i heard anyone else mention it was the racism in hollywood back then. it really bothers me becuz i have a love for that decade but taimak, mr. t, and other black male actors werent given the movie roles that white actors were given. u only saw blk men as thugs or gay men back then.
let's cut this crap, "he wasn't a trained actor" Taimak is an excellent actor, that movie made about 30million dollars back in the 80's that's a huge success. beside, thousands of people came to audition for the role of Bruce Leroy, Taimak was the only qualified one. he was picked because of his charm, tallent, and beauty. Taimak is Bruce Leroy, he is the Last Dragon, he should be called the BLACK DRAGON.
@JAQUANATV i disagree with you. it is not up to whites to push us up. the talent we have speaks for itself. in Taimak's case he turned down the sequel for a three picture deal. he said it "i turned it down" he could have been a big star today, he's not. he waited by the door for an offer sorry no offers. that's not the white people's fault Taimak is down.
@haitiangirl4ever He said that because back then WHITES didn't want no black man coming up good in the industry, but they asked to do it for the money and then kick him to the curve later on.
@haitiangirl4ever I really don't understand why they can't make a Last Dragon 2 on a small budget with limited release to start with. There are a million different ways you can make this movie, and Tmak kept himself fit and youthful enough to still be recognized as Leeroy. My kids love the original, so why not?
Hollywood chooses clowns like will smith and refuses real broz like Taimak with the real skills. TAIMAK and Michael Jai White should make a movie together.
@MrHero820 in fact...If I'm not mistaken, Taimak and Billy Blanks are friends. Don Noriyuki Wilson was a good fighter (he and Billy Blanks are also friends), but Taimak is/was in a class of his own!
@ankokugaiBOSS True, but i met to say the movie Bloodfist would of fit Taimak in that Character name 'Jake' to take out every martial arts fighters in the tournament to seek revenge of his brother's death.
I agree with Flo...I really was not your failure...you most likely are better off for having made the decisions you made at the time you made them. Just because they offered you a sequel does not mean that was the best thing to do or the correct thing to do...no second guessing. Ms. Watson your son is special.
Has it occurred to anyone that this guy is just not that bright? Did he actually try to get any acting training after getting a good break? Doesn't seem like it.
If acting is what he really wanted to do, maybe he should have taken up acting on the university level so that he could have something to back up his talent. Casting directors aren't just interested in if you were big in a movie before, but they want to see just how versatile of an actor you can be outside of the one role you played. Some people have it naturally, but for the most part, people study it in college if it is their chosen field. Taimak coul've used the extra studying, too.
To make it in Hollywood is not so important, it's better to make it in life like Taimak did by becoming one of the most beautiful human beens and a great master of his art, a very good example to follow.
Hey, I always say, "it's better to be known for one thing than to not be known for anything." You see all of the people on here trying for their 15...
Taimak, in the video you stated that you did turn it down
but on the comments you stated that you did not turn it down. So if it's not the sequel that you turned down, then what was it that you stated "I turned it down?"
@lavictoria1000 ahh the magic of editing...I did the interview from beginning to end and TVOne put those other characters in and edited it so as if it was me answering them...
@lordcron@lordcron Well you don't know Taimak, maybe he was lazy at times or maybe he made some wrong decisions along the way, just playing. But seriously Hollywood is an intimidating business.
If I were Taimak I wouldn't consider myself a failure by any means though. I know many martial artists who would trade places with him. You have to put things in context.
@lordcron I agree the timing was off, back in the 80s the only Black Male movie star was Eddie Murphy, although Denzel was acting he really hadn't made it BIG yet.
Hello, just wanted to reply to give MY side of the story. Trust me there's always two sides.
I didn't turn down a sequel...check the guy that said it, he was one of the producers of TLD and he can't even pron. my name correctly and I didn't grow up with Troy Beyer, although my mother knew her mother.
What happened to you is fairly simple:you were a man without a country. What I mean by that is,Bruce Lee could go to Hong Kong and say "up yours Hollywood I don't need you".You had nowhere to go.You were stuck here.
Man when I was little, after watching The Last Dragon, I wanted to BE Taimak! Unfortunate he didn't play his cards right. He should of rolled with the sequel, made a BUNCH more movies and just let his momentum / charisma build and build...kinda like he just said "I'm good." And walked away from his career--lol! "Nah, I'm good, see you in 20 years..."
I guess when you are twenty y.o. and is in a major movie walked into a role literally right off the streets, I could see where ego could take hold. But it is the talent not so much looks-that will keep you there. I was wondering what had happen to him after I saw him in soft porn HBO show Red Shoe Diaries almost 20 years ago...
Okay, that may be true, but his acting in american based films didn't transfer well. Trust, we were not headed to the theaters to watch Bruce Lee ACT. We desperately wanted to see homeboy kick some BUTT!!!!!! And you know I'm right.
I don't understand. Was Bruce Lee a trained actor? No, he was a damn-good martial artist. As is Taimak. Hollywood pushes who they feel are worth it. How many ACTORS have come and gone through the years that had the chops? COUNTLESS! I think Taimak was a threat, and they knew it. Back in the mid-80's there weren't any quality roles for blackmen as Taimak stated. He was doing something constructive with himself. Oh, yeah, of course they couldn't continue to show that aspect of a blackman.
I agree, but you know it was even hard for Bruce Lee to get a break. He had to go back to Hong Kong and make a few movies and become an international movie star. Then Hollywood came begging for him to return. "Enter the Dragon" was Lee's only hollywood film and he died before completing "Game of Death".
@iluvmyboba Been a while since you wrote this. But to correct you Bruce Lee was a trained actor. His father was a Cantonese opera star , and trained his son Bruce very early. By the time Bruce was 18 he appeared in over 20 films. So fact of the matter is; he was an actor, who just also happened to be a great Martial Artist.
flo anthony is such a ass kisser what was he talented at? it worked in the last dragon because he didnt have to have any acting skills. dont get me wrong he is a good looking guy but looks only go so far. he was very unkucky and listened to the wrong people and this is what happens in this business.
The fact that he wasnt a trained actor doesnt really have anything to do with it...I think it went deeper than that. He was blackballed for not taking the sequel...simple as that. Keanu Reeves didnt take the sequel to Speed...and he went on with great success.....he was blackballed plain and simple.
Taimak went against the grain of what a black man is supposed to be. That was strike #1. Strike #2 was that he should have taken the sequel. Being a new actor with no experienec there was no way they were going to give him a 3 picture deal. That was unheard of back in the 80's. He should have just signed for the sequel and also took roles in other films. Anything to keep working. Maybe things would have been different. Hollywood hyped him up and then they pulled the rug from underneath him.
and this, what im talking. about but thats hollywood for you hollywood is naturaly racist a black dude can play a thug or a rapist or some dumb rapper but cant play the hero all though black men are the real action heros not punk ass white boys
Wow his head is the same width as his neck ... strange ! He should have taken the sequel. He wasnt trained to act so he needed to understand he had to pay his dues like all of the other big stars ... Samuel Jackson, Denzel, Will Smith .... they all paid dues. They didn't get big overnight!
for another light-skinned brother like me. ive always looked up 2 u as the big brother i never had. often mimmicked your expressions as a child growing up in the 80s
Taimak is too advanced in the spriritual as well as a super athlete. I keep seeing acting as a distraction really for his level. One of the few super studs that isnt silly or wayward when it comes down to it.
