Bravo !!!!

  • Haha, I always laugh at 2:18 when he sings that flat note (not that it detracts from the overall performance, though). Vargas in the early 90s was a fine Bel Canto tenor, as exemplified in this recording.

  • bravo!

  • WOW....he adds amazing colors to this aria!!

  • A thousand times better than Juan Diego.

  • @kimancuo indudabilemente

  • @kimancuo he may have a bigger fuller richer voice but Juan Diego's interpretation is also excellent. It is hard to compare two non identical instruments...Juan Diego can really handle those very high notes...and he can really convey passion very well...so does RV - it sounds if RV uses more falsetto higher up...all well done...it is a bit like comparing two different excellent red wines...you may have your favorite!

  • @neelsdp1 the falsetto he used thats because try to smooth the voice not because dont have a high tessiture,at the age he have a high notes very well.

  • @mediterraneo1000 you are right. whatever he does, he sings very well.

  • @neelsdp1 I didn't hear no falsetto there, dude...

  • @FlosWeisheiten my imagination is better than yours:) i listened again and could not really detect it...

  • Great director and great singer!!

  • problem with Intonation some times...

  • Gorgeous.

  • He makes it to look like this is easy! Great Artist's characteristic! Bravo.

  • That´s one of the most difficults arias to sing. And he does it with great perfection!!!

  • WHAT a pleasant surprise! The messa di voce reprise at 2:27 is divine! Note to self: Listen to more young Ramon Vargas :)

  • He manages to sound masculine in that range! Wow!

  • l'Ita

  • If I had to pick a tenor to see live it would be R. Alagna.....he's my favourite!

BUT - Vargas has to be the most capable tenor onthe stage today that can sing everthing sooooooo well. This mans sings Rossini - Verdi - Pucinni...etc...

Vargas is so well well rounded as a musician. I would love to work with him in a lesson...................... he is a so educated.

"creativa" :-))

  • me encanta! bravo!

  • Oh that was fantastic! Bravo, Vargas :) The coloratura was great--wish I could do that half as well :p

  • What a flexible voice! Excellent!!!

  • seriously... i've never heard a better version. really well done. listen to that section at 2:45. such delicacy, yet such control. if you want to hear a girl sing tenor leggiero then go with mironov. if you want to hear a man sing tenor leggiero, well, here you go.

  • bravvvvvvoooo..... meglio di jdf

  • indeed!!!!!

  • I've never heard this aria sung more beautifully than this. I'll go ahead and say it: I think it's a pity he chose to pursue spinto repertoire. I'm sure I'll get flamed for it. What a gorgeous lyric tenor this was.

  • Your comment"it's a pity he chose to pursue spinto repertoire"can be interpreted a number of ways, and could ruffle a lot of feathers too (not RV's). I'll simplify things by just saying that his decision to explore heavier lirico-spinto roles was a greater blessing to opera in the declining years of Kraus, Pavarotti,Carreras and Domingo.Vargas picked up a great portion of the slack in heavier bel canto,Verdi and french rep. There is never a shortage of tenors with enough agility for Rossini.

  • I understand your point...for a number of reasons there has been a lack of true spinto tenors on the lyric stage in recent years, and for this reason many lighter voices have been "pushed" or "pushed" themselves into heavier repertoire than is ideal for the voice. Over time the voice pays a price for this. Of course this could be seen most drastically with folks like Di Stefano or Carreras, but also more recently Araiza, Villazon, Kaufmann...the examples are too numerous to count.

  • You sound like it's time to take RV to pasture with nothing more to offer the opera world. I believe he has never been busier currently singing all over the world still to great acclaim. His voice is still rich and gorgeous, only heavier and darker, but has not lost its lyrical qualities, purity and sweetness. He has the ability to lighten and brighten the voice for Nemorino, Ottavio, Italian Singer even at 48.Unlike the tenors you mentioned, he is in total command of his voice & solid technique

  • amazing voice, but be carefull with the respertory.

  • superb in every aspect - 5 stars

  • Love it!

I stupidly gave this album to a friend as a gift, now it is unavailable>>>

  • I just bought it on i tunes! check again.

  • How does this guy do it? One day Don Carlos and the next Lindoro. Amazing tenor of our times. I don't think there is another who can sing all the styles as good as him today. Amzing amazing!

  • it does not do any favour to the voice to swich to one style to others, the voice in future pays off.

  • Operaphile-Danbar: I had to order this CD from amazon UK a few months ago, but I think now it is unavailable; if you are interested, please contact me and I can provide a link on rapidshare where some tracks are uploaded in WMA format.

  • Hi Mona : You were probably referring to RV's Claves disc of Rossini/Donizetti arias, a fantastic recording that I was lucky to find years ago at a public library when it was not available anywhere else. I listened to it so many times that I can still vividly recall how each number went. I'm sure you enjoyed it too. Thanks anyway for the info, I'm quite content with fabiantenor's clips.

  • danbar 73: you are welcome =D, a sus ordenes!

  • Sorry, I've only just seen your post after going back to listen to this again! I will email you immediately.

  • fabiantenor -- Many, many thanks for this post. If this is indeed from that hard to find Claves disc, and you are posting some more, could you please include the aria from La Donna del Lago. Will appreciate it very much.

  • puro espectaculo..... gracias fabián por subirlo,,,

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been waiting for SOOOOOOO long to hear his recording of this. Is it from his first CD that I can't find anywhere?!?!?

Wonderful recording of one of my favourite arias. A little rough around the edges, and not as stylish in the legato line, but so thrilliing nonetheless!!! I love hearing the richer voices tackle Rossini :) FabianTenor...THANK YOU!!!!!! Any more from that disc? wink wink nudge nudge :)
