I grew up in Midwood and worked at Silver Rod Pharmacy (no longer there) on East 16th Street back in the late 1980s. As far as pizza, Di Marco was a nobody back then. He served a GREASY slice with no vegetables to be found. Please don't go thinking he is some kind of pizza god because he isnt. It boggles my mind how people think he is the greatest. I grew up with him and ate in his place as a young adult. If he was that good, why not make eating there more pleasant for the legion of fans?
WOW – That’s heavy... thinks for the up date. The old guy makes good, soulful, overpriced pizza. It's not cool to run any food service operation in filthy conditions. I hope the family gets it together!
I looked at your channel – you have some great vids on it!
They got closed down AGAIN by the department of public health. 'Filth flies' and all. But they reopened a couple of days later. I'd never eat their pizza.
I am actually from Wisconsin. But where I live in this small shit town, we have two of THEE BEST! pizza joints around. Zumpano's and Napoli pizzeria. THE BEST!. Both old school old world italy family recipe pizza joints. Except, one if Jersey style and the other is authentic sicily style pie. Both are to DIE FOR!.
Sometime food - no... great food - needs to be more than just a factory hump. Yeah - I've had better pizza...but soulful cooking and craftsmanship should be celebrated no matter what! This man crafts every pizza by himself. No - it's not some up-town bougie. bang-out spot with a pretentious poser chef! At least this guy is the" real deal" at what he does. This is one of the last real places in Brooklyn that hasn't been taken over by "progress" yet! So thank's - for your insight!
THE PLACE IS A DIVE. NEEDS TOTAL RENOVATION AND DONT KNOW ABOUT CLEAN EITHER. NOT A PLACE TO BRING A FEMALE WITH ANY CLASS,SINCE THIS HOLE IN THE WALL IS JUST THAT,A HOLE IN THE WALL WITH A PIZZA OVEN......YES,THE PIZZA IS GOOD,BUT TO MAKE UP ANYTHING BETTER THEN GOOD,MEANS THE TOBACCO YOU USE IS NOT LEGAL,THE TRUTH!!
After Di Fara pizza, there is no other pizza. The difference between Di Fara and the next best pizza in the world is the difference between Heaven and Earth.
Nobody matches the technique and love that meticulous owner Domenico De Marco puts into each pie. The process is beautiful, but the traditional crust is crispy and borders on the thick side, and can get a little soggy from all the olive oil. The rich red sauce with chunks of tomatoes is a little sweet and not the best we ever had. Also, the slices are not very big, so at $5 per, you are paying at least an extra dollar just to say you had the Di Fara brand. Google PizzaSnobo for pizza reviews.
