He must have it in an open tuning then has metal things come down to barre frets sort of like metal slides when you play slide guitar.

The camera person appears to not be a musician, or not a guitarist anyway. There was a definite lack of showing us how the fiddler manipuated the machine to simulate a guitar, or how the machine operated. Look for videos of this guy from others.
