I all\so grew up with The Four Seasons. They got me through The heartaches of losing boyfriends The pain of War..etc....But, They were always there to share My joys of growing up, making new friends, slumber partys and Just downright fun of being a teenager in the 60s...Thanks Frankie...
My wife and I saw him three weeks ago in Oklahoma- met him backstage and got our pic taken with him- what a thrill and a super nice person. (BTW his falsetto was alive and well.)
@mrfunnyman99 The voice wasn't gone, but in the mid 1970's he lost most of his hearing to otosclerosis. When you lose hearing, it is normally from the top down, so staying on pitch in the upper register would have been a problem. Most of the hearing loss was reversed through three surgeries to remove the abnormal bone growth.
I've seen the Jersey Boys and Midtown Men knock-offs, and while they were fun and enjoyable, I couldn't help think that no one can match Frankie Valli's voice on these great songs.
@ricosolo56 Good question. I grew up with Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, but he is 76, and the falsetto may have left. Could it be???? It's not the same song without it.
I am 21 years old and grew up on music like Frankie Valli and Jay Black. I think it is likely due to my father being a kid from the Bronx. Whatever the case, I know a lot of young people can relate to my experiences driving in the car with my dad listening to these amazing songs at the age of 5.
My message is this... influence your friends to listen to this stuff. It is the only way it can survive! They know the tunes. They just need to understand the importance of the artist as well!
@laxty2469 Totally man. I am 27 and I grew up as well. My dad used to rock me to sleep with those songs. I remember going to the beach listening to them.
Jersey Boys was an Amazing SHOW!! Love Frankie and the 4 Seasons......since I first them....as a youngster!!! and then...Who Loves you..... in college...... was another one.....! Love it
I think it was the Summer of 1967 that by accident got to see them Atlantic City Steel Pier. They were pretty good live. By that time, I switched over to the Doors and other cool bands. But the Four Seasons and the Beach Boys were the best talent we had to listen to (after Buddy Holly died?) before the Beatles and rest of the British Invasion bands came to North America. I like the vinyl original "Let's Hang On" much better than this.
I saw them many years ago in London, and without Frankie Vallis' voice being double tracked they put on a lousy performance.
I still think their magic was in the recording studio. along with so many recording artistes, where imperfections are edited out in the mixing. At least they did sing live, unlike so many singers today who mime all the time on stage because they have no vocal talent.
This group made some great records, especially Rag Doll
Just seen Jersey Boys in Las Vegas . This is a MUST SEE show if you are fortunate enough to get to Las Vegas . Worth every dollar . The Show & Music were FABULOUS !!

If you love Frankie Valli, DEFINITELY check out the musical Jersey Boys. ALL about him and the Four Seasons, and all the songs are his songs! They have great renditions of them and are very talented!!!
Since the smash hit Sherry(1962) sold a million records within 2 weeks, Frankie Valli with a then without the "PLeasin"....4 Seasons has kept rockin'......
When I was 15 years old I was honerd to see the Four seasons..Now Im 57 and will never have the privlage again. To tell the truth i could never afford it .I wish franki the best,,
It seems as if were just yesterday, but it was 34 years ago this past summer...I was 19 years old & went to see my very first concert in Asbury Park, NJ. In concert that summer of July 1974 was Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. I'll never forget the excitement I felt & then experienced as that peerless group literally ran on to the stage to perform that night. What a sound! What a voice (Valli). He still today looks and sounds great, but there is never a time quite like the first.
I saw him 2 weeks ago, at the Soboba Casino Arena in San Jacinto, CA. It was an open place, which meant no A/C with a temp of 100 degrees. He perform beautifully, he looks great, and if anything he was more in touch with his fans, he was sweting a lot, but we corrected it with his hand, and at the end of the show, when everyone was giving him a standing ovation, took his ear plug. You know, it drove the fans crazy, because we knew he was our Frankie. 72 and still looks like a very sexy italian.
I Saw Him, 1 week ago. What was what a news paper critic said he had? Grandfatherly figure? HA! The man looks better that ever, his voice is just as good as when he was 30, falsetto and all. I've been his fan for 44 years (I,m 57)an everyday I like him more.
At one time, I had a video of this concert, but don't know where it is anymore. I do have a concert tape from around 1992 I believe, similar to this one. I'm pretty sure it's available again due to the popularity of Jersey Boys on DVD.
What a great version! OK his vocals aren't as technically precise as on the record, but then look at him! He's much more occupied with shaking the hands of his fans, it's clearly the last song of the night so his voice is probably tired (mind you, that long "taaaaaaaaaaaaaaaakes" note at the beginning is awesome). When he steps away from the fans his voice improves. Even with the piercing early 80s synths, I probably prefer this to the original. I like the emotion, energy and the new sections:-)
I just saw Frankie in concert a few days ago, and let the naysayers burn, he was hitting the high notes like he was in his 20s. He put on an unbelievable show, and I strongly urge everyone to go if he comes to town... it was the best night of my life.
I liked this video and vocals. Frankie adds different variety to the songs he sings. This is a different arrangement and has nothing to do with whether he can hit the high notes or not. His voice is an instrument in itself.
People sound different at different stages of their life, the early 60's will NEVER be recreated, I still think they sound great here. Different yes but still good.
Truth be known, he gave up most high notes and made sure that he had guitarist Larry Lingle hitting most of them at this stage of his career. Lingle had a falsetto voice that covered most of the old songs.
He also developed an ear problem in the late 70s that interfered with him being able to tell if he was on pitch in his falsetto, which was a big part of why he didn't hit the high notes in the 70s and 80's. He had it corrected, so he's singing falsetto again these days. It makes me happy. =]
Right you are!!! This is very embarrassing. Frankie Valli is just cashing in on the old Four Seasons songs. I saw real group : Valli, Gaudio, Long and DeVito in '67 , the show I saw so different, it was more like the Beatles, Stones or classic Beach Boys concert a real 1960s rock and rock concert. This is just a sad embarrassment! Mr. Valli should retire with some class or better yet reunite with the other "real" Four Seasons andgive the fans the concert they really want!
the key element missing from his performance is the falsetto...he just couldn't hit the high notes anymore, at least in this video. And that's what most fans miss. Without it, he sounds quite ordinary.
this is quite pathetic. i saw him in concert last year and he sounded incredible compaired to this. the show i saw was worth the expensive price i paid for it. his early 80's shit wasnt good. then got a better and now im anxiously awainting to hear his new album.
