That horn makes you feel your heart beat. It's all about LOVE. I remember all this back in the day. Makes me want to go dust off all my albums, scratches and all.
I am loving this song still and I am forty something. to all you youngsters. this one is for the history books. no other band can ever match the elements! Earth, Wind, and Fire! Play on brothas! I remember the late night parties that my mom and dad used to host. I tried to sleep but found myself holding my hair brush and lip sinking to the music that I heard downstairs! Good times!
A sense of calm comes over me when I listen to EW&F charts like this. Listened to this version while cruising on my way through the Arizona desert to Phoenix one time years ago. An inner calm and peace comes over you, melting feelings of weaving and road rage away. Yes, Don Myrek is amazing too.
Que música...bons tempos de muitos bailinhos, dançando agarradinho, coladinho, podia não ter fim.....apaixonante essa música...Que saudades de meus tempos de outrora.......ai,ai.......
Truly one of the finest single song recordings. Philip Bailey on vocals, and MISTER Don Myrick on the Alto Horn ("He plays so beautiful, don't you agree??!") This brings back some GREAT memories. They don't make music like this anymore
I also agree (and have been saying so for quite a few years on YT). This is THE best version of "Reasons" we have available to us (how can you really hope to surpass near perfection, when the whole band nailed every note?)
What I DIDN'T know, but learned from the original poster (kacobb11) is that this "concert" comes from more than one concert. OK. I have no real problem with it myself, because it's been "cherry picked" from the best of the best to build something truly special for the ages
Thanks for posting this version!! You're so right that this is the best version of the song. I played it over and over when the album came out and was so disappointed that the DJs in Massachusetts hardly ever played it opting for the shorter, studio version instead. Too bad so many people missed out on hearing this great version during the time when it was getting airplay. Even now, if it's played, it's usually the short version. Too bad. Love EWF forever!!!
'This is how true music should sound. Soothing and uplifting to the ears, mind, heart and soul.
The lyrics of Earth Wind & Fire will give aid and understanding to anyone who is willing to open their heart and listen.
The rubbish that is nowadays being thrown at us is merely to confuse the already worried minds. Keep up hope and learn to listen to what is true and pure. Earth Wind & Fire helped me through life and with hard times coming worldwide i'd advise more people to listen and learn.
i agree the live version of this song is so much better then the studio version i like both versions of this song though i remember back in the day when my parents would have paeties this was one of the songs they would play great memories
Now this is music. Just a reminder, have the right reason to support what You do and let what U do be a righteous act. memories are sometimes unreasonable. But enjoy the song anyway.
does anyone remember the drummer Andre Robinson did a solo in kc that blew my mind his platform raised up and rocked back and fort and he beat the sh-------------out of them
I remember hearing this on the radio! Was a big EW&F fan and I went "What the F is this?" Found out, bought it and learn to hit the high notes (almost as good as Philip!) Much older now but still can't hit a few including James Durbin/Adam Lambert stuff! My lower range is pretty good too! Practiced while my voice was changing to the guy from the Oak Ridge Boys! Early on his appearances on Olivia Newton John's songs, later Elivira & Bobby Sue! Back in the 80s I had nearly a four octave range!
The great Gratitude album. I was in California wihen this came out. We had at least five sets of this double album in the barracks. Whoever had the best and loudest stereo system played it first. Man, we even played that bad boy during intermission at the drive-in. Folks almost forgot about "Walking Tall Part 2".
@feistychick70 YES! I'm in STL, and EVERY Quiet Storm (night radio show), if they were playing "Reasons" it was THIS VERSION IN ITS ENTIRETY....can't cut corners on the elements! Love love LOVE this!
My favorite live version. I was spending my time "screaming" like Philip. This song is smooth, love, modern, romantic and sexual. Well I just love it!!!!
been looking and waiting for this track for a longest time...am 52 now. ' love this track, my good old days at YMCA mla....amazing you did it "kacobb11"...thanks bro.....
I TOTALLY agree with you Kevin! My parents had this album and we would listen to it ALOT, I just wish I could remember where this great performance was recorded. Thank you soo much for uploading!
@shoelover64 Yes, this album is a classic for sure. This album combines several live shows over a one year perioed, & I don't think that anyone has ever publiished the specifics of each song on the album & which live performance it was from. I researched this for awhile when I posted this most recent video, & when I first posted this on my original channel, & I came up with nothing.
Thanks for uploading this version. I grew up listening to the "live" version and I love it! Back in NYC, the radio stations (WBLS, KISS fm) mostly play this version. And they ALWAYS played the song in it's entirety! It should be against the law if you don't! (LOL) I miss being up north and hearing classic jams like this...

Mr. Don Myrek appears to have been influenced by the great Cannonball Adderley...Or so it sounds.....

We used to crank this up from the sax solo to the end. We wold stand in front of the Bose 901s and turn it up until our inner ears vibrated.
Hey, we were kids.

"Many, including myself feel that the live version included on the Gratitude LP is FAR superior to that of the still well performed studio version."
Absolutely! One of the greatest R&B ballads of all time, and all the more immediate and passionate in live rendition.
