I love my new Whirlpool Cabrio washer. I just washed clothes this morning. In one load I fit 21 shirts, 21 boxers and 21 pairs of tube socks. All came out sparkling white! I also washed towels, 10 bath towels, at least as many hand towels and wash cloths. Another load was sheets, 3 sets of Queen size, along with 6 pillow cases and 6 pillow liners. At minimum, this would have been 6-8 loads in a traditional agitator style washer. Go Technology!!
You know, I am so disappointed in this machine. At first I loved it. But now that I have used it for a little while I am noticing that it DOES NOT I repeat DOES NOT get my clothes clean. I bought it at Leon's on that don't pay a cent even for so many months. I have yet to start.....makes me angry that I have to pay for such a machine. It's okay that so much more can fit in the machine, but to what avail, if it doesn't do it's job properly
If clothes are just saturated, not immersed, how does the dirt float away--seems it would just get re-deposited on the other clothing in the basket. At least a front loader lifts and drops the clothing into a pool of water. I dunno, a top loader with an impeller and higher water level than the clothes in the basket seems like the only logical top-loader for me.
I love my new Cabrio washer. I can now wash one load where I had to wash three loads before. For example, it holds six queen size sheets along with six pillow cases and six pillow liners. Another example, it holds twelve bath towels plus assorted hand towels and wash clothes. All this using 2/3 less water with each load. Amazing! Well done Whirlpool!
this design is okay for small items that can freely move around each other with the aid fo the short impeller. despite it's 5.0 cu. ft. capacity, it's hard to see how large blankets can effectively circulate in the drum with this type of impeller.
@madcheme Indeed! I had an impeller washer a LONG time ago, but it would rotate in the same direction for about 15 seconds (then reverse), and blankets DID turn over quite well. I don't see HOW a blanket could turn over in this kind of machine. If water were continuously pumped OVER the load, I could perhaps even then think "this machine is actually cleaning", but, apart from small loads, I really don't see HOW this design cleans the items on top at all.
Being a different design rollover, as found in tradiontional top loaders, is obviously not part of the washing process. When they came up with this machine they were thinking outside the square to combine the benefits of a traditional top loader with the efficiency of a front loader and, at the same time, attempt to overcome the limitations of both. As with any new product there is a learning curve for consumers. Presently some people absolutely hate them and others totally love them.
I was looking at that, and thinking the same thing that tuthill99 was. The roll over doesn't look that great. Front loaders cost the same or less, are more efficient than this one, and yet still perform better. So what's the purpose?
@yourredcomrade717: No doubt. Another plus for the direct drive is that it is the easiest machine to work on, and to find parts for. As long as parts are still made, older direct drives can be kept running forever. But working on an HE top loader like this is like working on the Space Shuttle. When the Cabrio dies, the only option is the crusher.
@cnnw3929 i know. i do couplings all the time. theres nothing i dont know about that machine. its like an ak47 of washing machines.
i hate working on these things too. overly complex. too much techno garbage. alot of my customers get sticker shock when it needs a computer 3 years down the road.
actually this cleans much better than traditional washers. The friction between the cloths helps remove the dirt better, plus the proper amount of water and detergent helps. Not to mention that these types of washers use much less water and power which is pretty important also.
@Medialab3DStudio thats a load of bullshit. every customer ive had complains about this pos not cleaning clothes as good. i suppose you think the calypso cleaned clothes better too? rofl

Not everyone wants a frontloader.

@bannol I like front loaders, because there's always something interesting to watch if nothing is on TV... :-)
